Mike Tindall Tackle on Gregan - 2003 WC Final

Though Wallaby legend George Gregan would never show it, this unceremonious dump from the 2003 WC Final would have hurt a lot. As you might expect from such a hero, Gregan gets up quickly and walks it off, epitomizing the tough-as-nails persona that surrounds our beloved game.

Nonetheless, this is a great show of strength from big England centre Mike Tindall and would have no doubt rattled their determined opposition.

The game went on to become one of the greatest encounters ever in world cup history with the tension and drama one would expect from a world cup final.

  • What do you mean typical english man. It's a rugby game for crying out loud. If you are in front of me with the ball and you are smaller than me...i'll take you out. If you are in the team you better be prepared to be nailed one time or another. You say "Pick on someone your own size"...please, grow up. Rugby is not for pussies. Go Bokke!!!!!

  • Tindall saw he was out over the side line and then proceded to up-end gregan and smash him into the ground........... got cheap shot written all over it.

  • can anyone tell me how hard it is to tackle someone when they are already in touch? he did well to stop gregan (although how many tackles does gregan break?)but, please! to carry on like that in touch!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 16, 2007 4:45 am

  • To the last three comments: I'm no fan of Tindall or Gregan but that was a perfectly legitimate tackle. Tindall probably wouldn't have fallen forward like that if he hadn't been pushed from behind - but in any case that's fair play.

You play rugby, you get hit hard - Gregan's not complaining!

  • Oh god, 12 year olds have taken over the comment page. Do you really think Gregan hasn't done worse? - especially in international rugby. Get over it. It's just a silly overkill tackle. Besides, Tindall was trying for an 'Oscar'. P.S. Beware, the underdogs are growling again. C'mon England!!

  • nothing wrong with that tackle. Rugby is a contact sport so be prepared to get hit hard. He picked him up inside the field of play and put him down outside it thats just good rugby. Gregan didnt complain because he knows that how the game is played

  • And the great thing is all though you cant see it very well because its behind the line judge/another player the twosome actually touch hands in a friendly acknowledgment just to show there arent any hard feelings - I doubt George would complain - the aussies are great sports everyone knows that!

  • sikk fuckin tackle mate, tindall is a fucking legend. and england are the world champions, so fuck off the southern hemesphere cunts....

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 15, 2007 1:37 pm

  • Rugby is a glorious sport, this tackle was perfectly legal, and its racist comments like some of these that are tarnishing the name of the greatest game on earth.

When are people going to realise that 15 men on a pitch aren't all the same as an entire nation of people?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 27, 2007 9:01 pm

  • Hahahaha... I'm Welsh but I must say it does make me smile. Cracking tackle. Alls fair in Rugby. Gregan took it on the chin so you guys might as well.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 28, 2007 11:40 am

  • stop being so
    raicest. Its imbaracing

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 29, 2007 11:02 pm

  • Will all these idiots who say tindall was out of order shut up. If you have got some one in that position you don't gently put them because you've gone into touch, you slam them on the ground then rub their face in it for good measure. You girls should stick to commenting on football.

  • ffs guys it was an awesome tackle and all u people complaining about it are blatantly from the island of convicts. put it this way would you complain if you did that to an english player no you would whine on about it being brilliant. so in conclusion we knocked you out of the rwc again. 4 more years boys.

  • I think it's great to see some action from time to time, be it proper or inproper...I mean it's the reason why this website was made in the first place innit?! To all you complainers, if seeing things like this scare then what what the hell are you doing on this website??!! Go watch the Teletubbies insted...this website is for real men!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2007 6:09 pm

  • his defence is not shit, thats why we had him in the centre with greenwood. if you watched/played the game you would see how good tindall is. it wasnt a cheap shot either, a cheap shot is when matt rogers tries to take out lewsey in a previous game but ends up gettin creamed, while im having my wrant, who knocked who out of the world cup- AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 24, 2008 8:42 pm

  • Tindall can be a good player and during the 2003 wc he was really on form but there was no need for that. Surely the bigger man would have simply placed Gregan back on the ground - i love the physicality of rugby but there was no need.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 02, 2008 5:07 am

  • Either way tindall has a well fit girlfriend

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 02, 2008 2:21 pm

  • see that guy push the two over as well??
    english slime
no need for that tackle if hes already out

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 10, 2008 11:45 pm

  • none of you mentioned it was a rugby world cup final....the adrenaline would be flowing through you. hardly going to let the opposition off the hook

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 26, 2008 10:13 pm

  • Being an England supporter, I think it was a smashing hit, which probably sums up that whole match. Well played and skilful, but someone had to come out on top!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 16, 2008 5:08 pm

  • well yeah it looks kind of bad, but what was tindall supposed to do? let him go by? no way

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 25, 2008 7:54 am

  • that was a bit of an unfair tackle there. tindal already had him of the pitch, if u look carefully u can see gregan realising what was going on and folding over tindals shoulder in order to stop himself being on the recieving end of a spear tackle.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 26, 2008 7:46 pm

  • this is was a rwc final if your going to show your dominance you have to show the opposition whos boss you want to make them scared to come into the contact zone by slamming him to the ground its intimidates gregan making him think twice about going into the contact area again
