Big Census Johnston hits Michael Lipman hard

Big Samoan prop Census Johnston puts the shoulder in on Bath flanker Michael Lipman in yesterdays Guiness Premiership match between Saracens and Bath.

Well timed, but probably not legal, the ref ignored it though. Commentators picked up on the hit though and made a fuss. Great camera work to get some nice replays that make it look a helluva lot like a rugby league hit.

Nice to see big front rankers putting in hits like this. Yes, probably not legal, but spectacular to watch from the safety of the couch nonetheless.

This video has gone missing. If anyone has a clip of it, please get in touch. Thanks.

  • The ref didnt igonre it, there is a penalty straight away for that hit. Still an awesome hit if slightly illegal.

  • What is classified as a tackle? I'm a little mixed up on the laws here. Is it any contact with the ball carrier or?

  • You need to make an attempt to wrap the player up - if you make no effort to put your arms round him then it is illegal. you cannot just stick a block like that in

  • I reckon he does make an effort to use his arms. It's just that the tackled player bounces so far back, so fast from the intial contact that Senselss Johnston doesn't get the chance to give Lipman a decent hug.

As for Stuart Barnes, you can tell what a scaredy cat he was as a player by the way he chastises any player who puts in a big tackle. I'm getting real sick of hearing his holier than thou opinions on how players should or shouldn't impose themselves on the game.

    It's a man's game, Stu!

  • Pretty funny, cuz afterwards the commentator said

"Boy getting hit by that big Samoan would feel like getting hit by all Samoa itself."

    hahahaha

  • you do not always need to rap up as long as your making an attempt to bring him out of bounds
