Argentina at home victorious over Scotland

Federico Todeschini broke Scottish hearts with a kicking master class as Argentina snatched a 21-15 victory over the Scots in Rosario.

The fly-half put in a sublime display with the boot on a night that saw Chris Paterson finally miss a kick as the Pumas kept up their recent stranglehold over Scotland, who they’ve beaten the last seven times they’ve met.

Paterson, who went four clear of Gavin Hastings as his country's all-time record holder, scored all of Scotland's points but his night was marred by tries for Alvaro Tejeda and Gonzalo Tiesi who gave the Pumas victory.

Argentina were playing at home for the first time since finishing third at the World Cup and their side was given a hero's welcome.

The two teams face each other again in Buenos Aires next Saturday.

We’ve only included the tries in this clip.

  • frank hadden has to go!
he's brought us 2 calcutta cup wins but to be honest thats all he's done. we need to play more rugby and less kicking!!

  • agree with no 9, absolutely crap coach tht has given us nothing! Just because of the calcutta cup wins he still has a job and the games were poor. Bring in andy robinson!

  • Aye, Andy Robinson should get Hadden's job before the Autumn Internationals. I'm pretty sick of Hadden excusing the team's performances because of its supposed youth (as if England and Ireland aren't playing young players). I think a serious re-think of line-up is also needed. The Glasgow 10-12 pairing of Parks-Henderson/Morrison isn't working. Mind you, Godman and Paterson hardly offer brilliance at 10; Gordon Ross hasn't seen much game time since leavings Leeds and David Blair is still up-and-coming.

It's a thoroughly horrible position to be in.

  • Despite it being awful from a Scotland supporter's perspective it's good to see some of the game, cheers. Maybe, just maybe, Scotland might score a try next time. If Dan Parks gets himself run over perhaps.

  • Argentina are great even with a weaker side.
Scotland are shit. The most boring team on the planet. They are just a bunch of spoilers who win games by mauling and kicking.

  • As mush as I'd like to twat the last anonymous fellow in the face for saying that, sadly, the little git is right. We are playing a boring game. Two factors in this: Hadden and Parks.

Now Parks can play well, when Lineen tells him how to play. Unfortunately, Uncle Haddock still thinks standing 2o0 miles back from the set piece is a good idea. This is not schoolboy rugby anymore Frank. You are useless and therefore should be out of the job.

And I'd rather keep AR at Edinburgh right now thank you very much. Anyone else who would be interested in the job would be welcome. Just as long as Hadden goes.

  • hay un tackle de jose nuñez piossek que se merece un spot individual. Lo sento de orto

  • The Scotland backs were to flat all game and constantly got his behind the gain line because they just have really slow hands and are starting with 10/12/13 all standing flat, hence they are just running sideways or getting hit with man and ball.

They just don't have the midfield skills to play this standing flat game. They need to deepen up and execute flat, so that they hit the gain line at pace and have time to pick their lines at least coming at the line at pace if they hit the gap they should cross the gain line.

Patterson has a far quicker set of hands and starts flat, he's better suited to how Scotland are trying to play

They also need to remove Patterson from the back three, he's not got the pace for 15, he's a 10 or on the bench. harsh for th lad but it's the truth.

And when are Scotland going to go back to the quick Ruck ball game they are so suited to? this obsession with size and physical rugby is becoming annoying.

I agree Hadden is on borrowed time.

  • I am the one who made that comment up there and i am NOT ARGENTINIAN. True kicking and mauling are part of the game but that is all they do and what they can do...

i was really pissed off with that result cus a win was just what we need to get the ball rolling! we just cant seem to score trys at the moment and i agree with a lot of the comments up at the moment about frank hadden!!! he needs to go...........the SRU need to bring in someone who dosent have the "we did quite well but still lost" and " its o.k if we beat the english" mentality!! dont get me wrong beating the english is great but coming close and still losing against all the others in the 6 nations isnt!!

    something needs to change!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 10, 2008 2:15 am

  • Please do not forget the Ficha's words. Nobody gift us nothing!!! We won all we have!!! We do not need to talk about how good our Pumas are... or about if Scotish or Frenchies rugby is bad. Just lets the Pumas play and evangelize. Gracias Pumas por hacerme sentir orgulloso!!!

  • "We do not need to talk about how good our Pumas are... or about if Scotish or Frenchies rugby is bad. Just lets the Pumas play and evangelize. Gracias Pumas por hacerme sentir orgulloso!!!"

Yes you're "orgulloso", but please don't be fukin arrogant and disrespectful... That's the problem with you argentinians: you have a football fan mentality, and you ALWAYS need to criticize the other teams, especially the French. And that is a shame to spit on a country which highly helped your players to be known in Europe... (hernandez, roncero, corletto, albacete, gaetan, ledesma, pichot...play in France for many years, so please give some respect to a rugby country which welcomed and educated your players). And to say that French rugby is bad just shows that you don't know anything about the game of rugby, fukin football fan!

  • i agree with the comment above! just look at how many of the pumas play in france!!! if they all stayed at home then the pumas would be no where in world rugby!!!!
and no wonder Argentina did so well in the world cup its the only compitition that you have to aim for because no one will let you in to the others!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 10, 2008 1:32 pm

  • France still weeps...

    VAMOS PUMAS !!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 10, 2008 11:06 pm

  • I am the author of "Please do not forget the Ficha's words...". Probably you do not understand to me. I do not want to be arrogant. This is a message for Argentinians. Agustin Pichot (Ficha) said those words, trying to we was humble and to preserve te rugby spirit!!!

  • "scotland playing with all their stars" what a load of crap!!!! both the scotland and pumas team were both semi new teams!your rugby knowledge seems to be lacking!! i bet your a football fan jumping on the band waggon!!!! and you boast about beating scotland when you came 3rd in the world cup and we finished joint bottom in 6 nations! yeh........well done!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 11, 2008 1:37 pm

  • Actually, the argentinean rugby fans are the opposite to the football fans. Maybe this guy critizized the French rugby too much, but the football fans are truly dicks (or cocks if you are welsh) much worse than "la bestia".
The rugby in my country really helped to make better people instead of football idiots (the hooligans in Britain are called Barra bravas in Argentina)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at August 02, 2008 1:40 am

  • It's pretty funny to read how many comments are posted about "argentine football mentality, or football dicks" when it's actually the opposite. What you learned playing rugby in Argentina is to share, to make friends, moral values, hard work, to be humble and many other things that football will not teach you. I remember one time I scored a try, I came out running to celebrate it, and my coach took me off the field, because that was disrespectful. Argentina is a great rugby nation with a 100 plus years of experience and great games played against nations that are fully pro. So I don't want to read any more bs comments about not being a part of any tournament other than the RWC. We have beatened every team in the 6 Nations many times. The idea is to get in the 3 Nations (future 4 Nations), because is more accessible geographically speaking, and we'll be playing agains the best teams. Oh, another thing, if Argentina could be a part of the 6 nations the french, english and italian tourneys will be very boring, no good players for you suckers.
