Byron Kelleher 60m sprint for a great try vs Biarritz

Last weekend in the Top 14 we saw Toulouse brush Biarritz aside at the Ernest Wallon stadium as they won the round three match easily, 20-6.

The Top 14 champions of last season were ruthless after Kiwi Byron Kelleher opened the scoring with this fantastic try at the nine minute mark.

Cedric Heymans scored a late try to secure a bonus point for the home side, but it was Kelleher's effort that was most impressive.

For a guy who is, to some, reaching the end of his career, he showed tremendous acceleration to pull away, and then put the foot flat as he coasted in under the posts.

I'm not sure what happened at the back of the scrum there, but the referee seemed to rule that Jacque Cronje had lost control of the ball, and it was out, allowing Kelleher to swoop in and grab it.

Obviously not many will understand the French commentators, but we think they're great compared to certain stations commentators who sound like sipping tea and eating crumpets is the priority.

A great try the All Black who apparently still has ambitions of making the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand. It's still a long way to go, but if he stays fit and keeps performing for the top club in France, anything is possible.

On second viewing, it looks like the other scrum-half touches the ball.. or at least makes it look like he went for it, which means "ball's out"

it's my understanding you can fake to reach for the ball but you can't fake to pass the ball, clever way to draw players offsides

Kelleher is fast but Jean Baptiste Gobelet(Biarritz) is not the fastest wing, who is 1,96m and 110kg...

Kelleher won't ever be an AB again, there are too many good halfbacks in NZ (Cowan, Weepu, Moa and Leonard when he'll be fit)at the moment to permit him to regain the AB jersey.
Except if NZRU change their policy, and i hope not. Otherwise there will be only four championships in the world : Magners League, Guiness Premiership, Top 14 and H Cup...

Pfff...how the ref let him get away with that is beyond me...???

The ball is the offside line and he was offside plain and simple when he picked that up...should have been penalised not given the try...???

The analyst is Thomas Castaignède, who played for 7 years at the Saracens.
As a French, I don't find it particularly funny, maybe because I'm used to it ;)

Great finish but seemed offside to me, maybe i'm wrong though and hopefully i am.

Rugbydump it says that toulouse won 20-6 and heymans scored a late try to secure a bonus, but that would mean that they'd have scored 4 unconverted tries yet they converted the one shown in that clip. If you could confirm, did they get 4 tries or is the score wrong?

As the anonymous said above, in the Top14, the offensive bonus rule has been changed last year. Instead of scoring 4 tries, you need to score 3 tries more than your opponent.

Il n'y a pas de hors-jeu, car le 8 n'est pas lié à la mélée, il "tient" seulement" ses 2emes ligne, l'arbitre considère donc, et c'est la règle, que le ballon est sorti. Quel filou ce kelleher !

Wow, I'm surprised he can still run that fast, he's getting pretty old these days and still got plenty of kick.

However, I'd have to say he was offside. The other scrum half didn't actually pick the ball up and the ball wasn't out. Kelleher must of thought he touched the ball and hesitated, so he just grabbed it and bolted.

Very impressive run none the less.

in the first scene the camera shows the ball behind the no. 8's foot - therefore outa the scrum .

Yep the ball was behind the no.8 feet so it's general play and Kelleher had every right to pick it up and go. The French halfback just hesitating and that was enough for Kelleher to pick it up and run away for the try

if he keeps this up he'll be able to make it back into the abs. the only halfback he'll be competing with will be leonard if he keeps up this form and fitness.

It bugs me when halfbacks leave the ball lying at the back for too long but this one looked out of the scrum and the half still mucked about, got what was deserved. Kelleher's front foot might've strayed offside but he was in the act of grabbing the ball so that could be interpreted as ok too. Some refs could've seen it differently but I'm glad the try was given.

toulouse halfback squad is too big with kelleher, ellissalde, skrela, now michalak returning... amongst whom 3 kickers... no wonder they let go valentin courrent (good thing for him he gets a chance to play too, his rocks)

re anonymous 'the only half-back he'll be competing with is leaonard'. that's absolute garbage. kelleher will never play for the all blacks again. he's 31 now and 32 on the 3rd of december. christian cullen has more chance of a come-back!!

yes leonard is competition and so are piri weepu, andy ellis and taniela moa but the best scrum half in nz by a country mile is jimmy cowan.

I really hate Kelleher, i dont know why....but i just do, but if this was legal, then its pretty damn impressive, although at the same time this is impressive anyway seeing as he got a try from it, he had some serious pace there!
