France upset the All Blacks in Carisbrook

France put in a massive defensive effort and capitalised on opposition mistakes as they beat New Zealand 27-22 at Carisbrook in Dunedin in the first of their two Tests.

The home side made costly errors that resulted in France punishing them The All Blacks were guilty of putting in a rare poor defensive showing at times, as Francois Trinh-Duc proved for the first try as he broke through numerous tackles and powered over.

Hooker William Servat crashed over a little later, and France had a 17-3 lead which put them in a commanding position. A spirited fightback by New Zealand followed though, starting with a Liam Messam try on the stroke of halftime.

The hosts got the scores up to 17-17, but as they struggled to break the stubborn French defensive line, the returning Luke McAlister forced a pass which was intercepted by Maxime Medard.

It was the final nail in the coffin, and despite a late Ma'a Nonu try, France held on to record a famous win in New Zealand.

Speaking ahead of the match, captain Thierry Dusautoir said: "They are a mythical team - to beat the All Blacks it's always the pinnacle of a player's career, especially in New Zealand because very few French teams have done that."

  • Most biased commentators I've ever heard, all these excuses. Pure bollocks, and the defence from the French was unreal. Medard is pure class, and Basteraud was a tank.

Love watching the Kiwis get beat by the people that put them out of the world cup.

  • ... Wow, I didn't expect that. I was sure France would get beaten.

    Whoohooo!

    Allez les blues!

Now Im anxiously awaiting the recap of the watch.

Oh and am I alone in thinking that Trinh-Duc could be a truly great #10? He's still young and has shown some great skill when playing for France. If France manages to find an excellent kicker, they could be a real threat in 2011.

  • I'm not very surprised of this result for 2 reasons

    - France (for one of the 1st time) have gathered a good squad after an exhausted top14 season
    - Few all blacks were missing.

Last years, i heard Graham Henry criticized french for not select their best players..Lievremont answer with the best manner this year

French finally did exactly what u expect: fierce defence and flair. All Blacks did too much mistakes to claim victory and usual
to conclude, i wasn't pretty surprised by the biased comments of sky towards "an inexperienced referee". did we really see the same game?

The 2nd test in Wellington will be a great meeting

  • This does the AB's no favors in terms of their world cup preparation. They really needed to get rid of the 'chokers' title by winning some home games.

Loosing to France in NZ is a massive blow for the AB's psychological preparations. Come world cup time the entire country will be hoping they don't cock it up again - rather than being quietly confident, they will be quietly negative.

AB's are strong physically, but weak mentally.

  • I've just read that a New Zealander had bets totalling NZ$200,000 on an All Blacks win.

It must be terrible for him to lose the countries entire savings on one game.

  • The manner the NZ supporters reacted at the end of the match, throwing bottles on french players is just disgusting...i never saw that before in a rugby stadium! they're just absolutely upset of losing against the french once again...Bad loosers, makes NZ people look like very unpleasant...and pathetics.

nevermind, thank you les Bleus, i'm so glad even if it was a second string team, it's always a great thing to beat the ab's, and more again on their land

  • Concerning the booing during the kicks, some players said they are used with, and curiously they are more disturbed when the stadium is quiet.

But still, i'm surprised Kiwis did it.

  • A) France too were missing key players.

    B) Their 9 and 10 had never played together and are both relatively new to that level.

    C) What happened to NZ supposedly being capable of fielding three top class XV?

The reason the French outplayed the AB's is just cause the french were the better team. They weren't even brilliant in the last 6N. NH is just not as shite as it used to be.
Hard to admit for the kiwis, who won't even be able to blame it on a forward pass this time.

  • Good win to France, the ABs were terrible for 30 min and Les Bleus took their chances, the ABs got better but the French defence especially at the gain line was terrific. But wow the bitterness and spite on here, it's just as well NZ does get beaten occasionally otherwise where would all that built up opposition bile go?

By Anonymous Ted, at June 13, 2009 4:40 pm

  • It's not often i make posts like this but to be honest, as a kid growing up i always admired and wanted to play rugby like the all blacks.

they were the bench mark, they were Rugby.

In the last 4 years they have become the most petulant and annoying nation in world rugby.

Cheating off the ball is indicative of the whole team.

They are a great team but how long are we going to watch refs allow them to play the ball offside, play players off the ball and generally just push gamesmanship to the Nth degree.

I know it's not their, the players, fault, they are coached it and the refs don't pull them up on it, but seriously how far can you push gamesmanship before it gets into your game at all stages and starts to become detrimental to the result?

And we saw that today, they were illegal at probably 70-80 % of phases toady, and it got them no where but literally gave the french the momentum they needed to get the win.

the french weren't even that amazing, they can and have played better, but they deserved the win and well done to them.

Lets hope they can build on it for next week and chalk up another win.

    Missing Macaw a lot.

  • it was a good match to watch and the french defensive effort was immense and they took the chances they created well, so they deserved the win

but to be fair it's a bit drastic to say that all of a sudden the all blacks are a poor team and the whole rugby axis has shifted. it just means that anyone can be beaten on any given day if you play well enough

enjoy the rugby and forget the petty arguments
    we're not football fans

By Anonymous Frederick, at June 13, 2009 5:17 pm

  • During the world cup I heard many people say the 2 best teams in the world are the all blacks and the 2nd choice all blacks. So if they didn't have their full first team is not an excuse. If the All Blacks were really that great they should have won the world cup in 2007 or 2003 or 1999. The All Blacks are like Dutch soccer. The best team in the world when it doesn't matter.

From a Dutchman who support Irish rugby!

P.S. I think Ireland are the best NH team, with France 2nd.

  • Actually did anybody else feel really sorry for Luke McAlister? He got nowhere playing for Sale in England, then he goes back and throws this intercept. But after he did so, Medard looked like he was just teasing him, with his mazy running, and he wasn't even sprinting, and on the replay you can see McAlister busting his backside trying to get back. I just thought he looked so pathetic.

He can still be class though.

He looked really heavy and unfit, but then he hasn't played for a couple of months now i suppose - is he playing NZP?

He'll shed a good stone or so come the Super14 next year i'd imagine, and yes he'll be class again.

  • One has to wonder if Lievremont's experimentation with eclectic and younger players was more than just simple creativity. I think that France has done some very good preparing of their lesser-known and younger players - really good thinking for the future. England could take a lesson from him.

McAllister is class - no two ways about it. Everyone has an off day.

Even if it was a second string AB team, they're still excellent. That said, France was missing big players too.

I used to be a big football fan, now I just support the team in my heart (Toulouse Football Club), and French Selection of course.
Why ? When I started to put a real interest in rugby, I realised that, on a football match, you can get bored during 90 minutes watching a WC game if there ain't any goal or brilliant play. On the other hand in rugby, even watching a game between kids there is always something interesting to see : nice tackle, nice kick, of course nice runs and passes.
Is that proper enough ? :)

By Anonymous ToulouseFan, at June 13, 2009 7:57 pm

  • " saying that France are nowhere near the best team in the NH, the only teams that are arguably better are Ireland and Wales"

Did you watch the 6N - England beat France, and on points they beat Wales, coming second.

It is a fair point that for some reason it seems that France are the only team that you associate with beating New Zealand.

And England beating Australia. Must be a world cup thing.

By Blogger Edmund Scott, at June 13, 2009 8:17 pm

  • Perhaps people here should check the age of players and their experience in international tests :

Picamoles is 23, Bastareaud 21, Medard 23, Mermoz (who will certainly be associated with Bastareaud and wasn't here because of the Top 14 Final) is 22, Ouedraogo 22, Parra (who would probably have been the starter as scrum half wihtout being injured) is 21...

The fact is these two teams were young and the best deserved the win. Looks like the next test will be big excitment.

    By Blogger K, at June 13, 2009 8:34 pm

  • Hi!!! this is a reply for GoodNumber10. I have to agree with you, because Luke mcalister has also annoyed me!!! i know medard is fast but mcalister must have caught him as it looked like the french was actually jogging haha!!!
I would like to see him at his best again (like in 2006-2007 seasons).

  • Now guys, don't get overcarried, as someone here said, shit happens.

I believe the ABs are still the ABs, and I really hope France will have the maturity to hold this game as the 1st of the longest series they can achieve, not the type of thing they are used to do.

For some reason the All Blacks had forgotten to remove the handbrake for the 1st 30 min, and I'm prety sure that next week in Wellington they'll have a note somewhere in the back of their mind telling them to play 100% from the start.

If France keep being agressive in defense, and at ease on the attacks, they have a chance to win the series. But NZ will come out stronger and revengeful. No doubt about that.

    Allez les bleus

By Anonymous piaruskov, at June 13, 2009 8:43 pm

  • It is still 90% sure the ABs will win the next one. Accidentally losing one game doesn't change the fact that they are the best team in the world playing at home.

i'm irish, used to love the all blacks- had about 2 ab jerseys as a kid... nowadays though the arrogance that surrounds AB rugby makes me sick. as the crowd showed here they have no respect for other nations. can't lose with dignity and show no class when they win (which is most of the time, granted).
was in nz for the last lions tour and there was no craic to be had with their supporters- just wanted to tell you how shit NH rugby was NON STOP. i'm irish, as i said, so am used to laughing off bad results in the pub with opposition supporters but nz was just bloody awful.
really wish they'd just get off their high horse and remember that rugby is a game which is supposed to bring people together to have a laugh and not to measure dick size.
    p.s. well done france!

basicilly what im trying to ask is NZ cop the f*ck on abit!!

your no better than the rest of the teams in the world...

sure rugby is your nationaly a primary sport and you do pretty well at it (even better than ireland, most be admitted) but still remember

1.yeve still only won the world cup once....one less than springboks

2.ye slag of the lions saying we cant gel together and ye could and whatnot but clearly by today your just like any other country....ye need time practice good managers and to get along with your fellow team mate (which could be hard when your trying to rip his guts outs for most part of the year)

3.in the end of the day nobody cares whos the best!! in ireland we get bet we get sad we go to the pub and laugh about it its forgotten! the way ye treated the french today was a disgrace.....booing every time they had a kick and abusing when they were walking off the feild.....if ye travelled anywhere in the world and bet a team they would not do anything like this!!

in other words...get off your high horse your as good as the next team....act like real men and stop wigging when people stand up to the haka (which i personally love and would love to stand against it) stop abusing players who on the day played better rugby and won (as this would never happen to ye) and just have a bit of craic about the game!! if ye won the next world cup on playing good rugby i would personally wish ye congrats...even if ye beat ireland by a 100 points on the way to it!!

its about the rugby in the end of the day....thats what were here to see!!

thats what my problem with kiwis are!!

Just go to show if you can match the All Blacks at the breakdown and in the loose you can beat them. Once again Richie Mccaw showed his importance, in the fact that the All Blacks simply couldnt get the quick ball they needed without him.

  • reading these irish comments it doesnt surprise me why they're looked down upon by everyone. The ABs coaches and players took their hats off to the french saying they deserved to win the match - no bitching, no blaming, no complaining - yet still the bitter irish turn up on forums across the planet with sharpened knives out tarring every kiwi with the same brush being ungacious losers, chokers etc. They like to think they're branded easy going becos they like to get blotto after a match and not take it seriously - well they take their forums seriously enough to bombard the internet with friggin jabs and cheapshots to make themselves feel better when it wasnt even their team which won the match - talk about rising the tailcoats...

By Anonymous perspective, at June 14, 2009 12:34 am

  • Few chips on a few shoulders round here!! AB's didn't deserve to win, if your tight five aren't coming up with the goods and midfield aren't making the busts then you're screwed.

as for booing... it's what they do. they boo when you go for a kick. It's not a reflection of anything lol.

What a poor spirit to always find excuse and to not accept the defeat.
Terrible spirit from NZ and the crowd in the stadium. Perhaps you should listen more to Graham Henry : he had nice and objective words

  • "Carter missing
    Mcaw missing
    jerry collins missing

At least Collins will never be back, as far as we know...
And in the XV de France you also had many titulaires missing !
Bonnaire (n°7), Harinordoquy (n°8), Parra (n°9), Skrela (n°10), Fritz or Mermoz (n°12) and Nallet (n°4) but this one is not a big loss in my mind...
So we had AT LEAST as much absents as Kiwis, so if you want to say, you guys had a second hand team, admit that France had too, so admit that French second choice team, kicked the ass of yours today whereas our players just began their season one year ago...

Concerning those who insult Irishmen, you're just idiots...
As far as I know, this country has a real rugby culture (been there once) and they don't throw cans on their opponents at the end of games ;)

PS: I've always been (such as most part of french people) a great ABs supporter but today we're just happy to show you that you're not untouchable, and we really regret the behaviour of Kiwis "supporters"/hooligans...

"Excellent defensive effort capped off with some staunch running."

"Yep, well done France! Awesome display in defense, no way though for the All Blacks."

"I thought for the most part their option taking in attack was really impressive too - knowing when to bomb, grubber, spin it wide etc.....Congratulations France!"

"Yeah, Bravo the frogs. Three tries and that defence makes a pretty balanced effort. Lets face it, the ABs were lucky to get within cooee of les bleus."

"Hell yeah, nothing but praise for the french - fantastic defence for them. If they'd played full steam for 80 minutes, it could have been 40-10. Well done Les Bleus."

"French defence was something to watch. You can never tell just what French team will turn up on the day - which is half the fun!
Thought their pack was pretty good as well."

"Congrats Jauzy, your boys played well and deserved the win."

"Very well played by France. Totally deserved the win. Some very impressive defence."

"Like Manbra's French bouncer, they gave us a proper dicking.

They had more ticker, simple as that, and deserved to win. Well done France."

"Great defence, great rucking, great turnovers, great counter attack, great goal kicking. Very well played France... don't really mind losing when outplayed by a better team."

"Fine effort from the French, and plenty of resolve. Well done to them indeed."

Can't see the irish bloggers recoiling their bitter chat however.

  • I would just like to add that I think the Irish are probably the best rugby supporters of any nation, passionate, knowledgable and respectful towards opposing teams. It is sad that a few twats on here are tarnishing their image.

  • Hey less of the anti irissh comment here it was only one or two posters here and they dont represent teh true feelings of us...

However your New Zealand supporters were an absolute disgrace to your country and the sport throwing bottles at the French as they walked off....

Most irish people believe New Zealand to the pinacle of rugby in the world so dont take any notice of what some say on here....

By Anonymous themull, at June 14, 2009 1:33 am

  • Apologies 'themull', I just get fed up with the NZ hate-mob of which most proudly claim that they are Irish. As for the bottle throwing, totally unacceptable and I hope the culprits get banned from future games.

    By Blogger Simon7, at June 14, 2009 1:55 am

  • Yeah I'm Irish and I think I've been quite agreeable. I think though that on the internet people just become very rude because they never actually have to face the person on the other end. We could all learn an important lesson here. Bloggers are people too.

By Anonymous Kearney for tests, at June 14, 2009 1:58 am

  • If I was a kiwi I'd be pissed off at losing that one but I'd be laughing at all the GB and Ir comments riding on the French coattails trying to pretend that the rugby lesson NZ gave them all in the space of about a month not so long ago never happened. Get real. One narrow loss doesn't change a thing and after winning the TriN and a grand slam when plenty of people said they had no chance they had a right to be confident. I reckon this might have been a timely wake-up call.

  • Good win for France but no one needs to turn it into a SH vs NH debate just cos NZ lost

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 14, 2009 2:44 am

  • Have to apologise for the arrogant and childish comments from some of the other Irish supporters here. Like with every sport, when you're a little successful you attract a breed of bandwaggoning arrogant fans who know next to nothing about the sport and just serve to piss off the 90% who are true supporters! It's happened to Munster, Ireland and the AB's too, hardly a new phenomenon, just shows that they weren't around in the tough times to learn a bit of fucking humility.

Speaking of which, thought the bottle-throwing was an absolute disgrace, hopefully the NZRU take some kind of action on the dicks who were doing it!

Never supported the ABs but always respected their rugby, thought the match today was the best I've seen since the end of the H-Cup. Well done to France, played THE free-running offloading rugby that makes them scary as shit to play against and fronted up with some unreal defence for the rest of the match. Credit to NZ for managing to pull themselves back into striking range when they were so far behind, genuinely thought they'd score a try in injury time!

  • I really don't think France did the impossible, at least not against this AB team. I know that some players who usually appear in the principal french squad weren't there, but they would NEVER compare to the players missing inthe AB squad, for example the entire principal 3thd row (including captain Richie Mcaw) who certainly, if playing, would make all the difference. Not mencionning Dan Carter who is only THE best FH in the world.
If France had played with their full squad, as the AB, then I' m sure FRance would not be victorious.
About this irish thing, I side with them, they were up against far more talented players than France

  • Light-hearted post:

    1. Thomson looks very good in all-black shirt (deserved it, given its Super 14 performance). He just needs to get back his moustache

    2. Medard looks like a JPR Williams of the 21st century, down to the looks. He just needs to place a few handbook tackles.

    3. The all-blacks will never play again in Dunedin.

    4. My thoughts exactly (for a while), Dutchie.

    5. Graham Henry seems to be the only rational person in these occasions, big kudos to him.

    6. France may be onto something, it seems like the youngsters are finding their feet very quickly.

I'd say that they may get another win, e.g. here in Oz. Their scrum looks quite more solid and Harinodorquy should be be back.

  • Give it a rest about Irish people, this is the internet, do you really expect to get sound and genuine people commenting? Maybe if you visit Ireland you will see that the real rugby fans there are not anti AB at all, in fact they would be very interested to watch the ABs play whenever possible.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 14, 2009 5:56 am

  • The All Blacks were pathetic. Thompson and Ross were terrible. France deserve to win them both!

  • Andy said... AB's are strong physically, but weak mentally.

I guess that's why that tiny country has been the dominant force in this major international sport for over one hundred years and as of right now are still ranked #1. You should be very worried about how feeble-minded the rest of the rugby world must be. How is your team's record against them?

By Anonymous ontheroad, at June 14, 2009 8:17 am

  • Wow, why is it that Irish people are enjoying this so much?
It's not your team, it's France.
Ireland has never beaten NZ, so maybe you should wait for that to happen before you get so excited?

I also need to say but to all those other people on here talking about how sick they are of the ABs and the Kiwis whining...maybe you guys should look in the mirror, because the only time you take credit for anything is when a fantastic team like the French win something. Its their win, you lot have done nothing yet, so maybe you should leave the hoorah to France, much respect to them!!

By Anonymous Kieth, at June 14, 2009 11:55 am

  • Absoloutly agree with you Kieth! Im from France and its sooo funny hearing all these people from Ireland and England talking crap about the ABs like they had a hand in the win, leave the celebration for our people, you guys can just sit back and wait your turn! If you didn't watch the post match interviews you would've have seen that the coaches and the AB players praising this young French side! It was a fantastic win and the SOME of the Kiwi fans supporters may have not appreciated the loss but we're talking about Dunedin here...its a student city i don't think anyone over 25 live there!...Im looking forward to next week but my heart tells me that the ABs are going to throw everything at them but the kitchen sink!!

This test resutl would seem to suugest otherwise. Or perhaps it suggests something else? That test match rugby is a different animal entirely.

This may also be a warning to the Bok fans who, as usual, are expecting an easy series win against the Lions. France finished 4th in the 6 Nations and were beaten by Ireland, England and only narrowly defeated Wales at home.

France fielded a decent team and we got a great game instaed of the usual 65-10 drubbing which doesn't help anyone.

What is that spoz to mean? Altho it is true, Scotland were actually V unlucky not to beat France this year and outplayed them for most of the game.
Scotland have serious finacial and other problems in rugby but there current squad is full of talent, the problem was Frank Hadden. Hopefully a new coach will bring the best out of the limited resources in scotland cos the scots are natural rugby players, the just choose to play football for some reason (cos they really suck at it)

Guys, you're pathetics so shut up. We beat the AB's, you don't, go back to your Lions tour, with your victories against teams made of 2nd division players, that looks nice.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 14, 2009 6:25 pm

  • Last anonymous, you're a fucktard. Yes we did beat the ABs because we have a great team, that doesn't entitle us to despise other teams.

I'd rather we had won the Grand slam like the Irish than win that test against a very diminished AB team.

Great teams and great supporters know how to stay humble in victory. Go back to watching football and stop talking like you represent french supporters, you don't.

I remember the same thing happening last year with the ABs when they lost against the SA and AU. Everybody thought that this was the weakest ABs side around...how wrong they were!!

And regarding the fans in Dunedin! WTH do you guys expect they were all kids, running rampant on the streets and throwing bottles is the culture in Dunedin, ive been there and seen it when there have been no test matches on! –- I think most of the response here was not anti-Irish but anti-boorish, as you've said. Some NZers can be boorish too and people are quick to tell them about it. Also, NZers know the ABs aren't infallible and most of them have great respect for the French being the only NH side able to make that point with any regularity.

If they are worried about their top players running off to europe for the moolah then they should consider selling out their highest capacity stadium for every test and watch funds grow. NH stadiums regularly fill 80,000 capacity venues.

Also, if the concern is to bring live rugby to all of the regions then they should perhaps discriminate between regions with real supporters and regions where fans have a penchant for throwing bottles...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2009 5:44 am

RD showed a clip of Irleand A standing up the Ha Ka and the comments came flying in about how ungracious and disrespectful they were for not respecting the New Zealand traditions.

IN the test game against France Julien Dupuy was booed at all of his kicks.

You kiwis talk about respect, well try not throwing bottles on the pitch at the other team when you lose.

Commentators for Setanta were the most biased commentators i have ever listened too and im neither french nor kiwi.

With fans and commentators like that it just makes it all the better when you lot lose.

OMG someone give this guy a lollipop PLEASE!!! SO THE F*** WHAT! I seriously cannot believe how annoyed people get about having some fans boo when they're getting ready to kick the ball!! WTH are we watching.
The u20 haka debate is understandable BUT leave to the big guys they looked like try hards walking up to them like that.
But for people to be quiet when someone is kicking the fricken ball over is STUPID! The fans don't pay their money just so they can sit there and be quiet for 80mins...if they want to boo, let them boo, its NO BIG DEAL! Get over it!!...GO LIONS!

By Anonymous ROD, at June 15, 2009 1:15 pm

  • ^^ you took the words right outa my mouth! Why the hell do people get annoyed when fans start to yell out during kicks? Its hilarious!!
So what if there were bottles being thrown on the pitch, if they were throwin I'm 99% sure that they were ALL probably drunk and im 99% sure that they were all under 21!!
And although im not a Kiwi, im pretty sure that a majority of the fans would have appreciated and applauded the French win! You sound like every other whiny Pom on here (including me) but get over it! And the Kiwi fans didn't lose the ABs lost, theirs a difference, you whiny ass! Your making every other Pom out there look just as bad as you lot! We can celebrate our win when or IF it comes but until then stop whinging until we actually start winning against them! WHINER!!

By Anonymous Gregory, at June 15, 2009 1:23 pm

  • "RD showed a clip of Irleand A standing up the Ha Ka and the comments came flying in about how ungracious and disrespectful they were for not respecting the New Zealand traditions."

No they didn't. Most kiwis said it was fine, and then pointed out that it didn't really matter, since the Irish got beaten 17-0 anyway.
Standing up to the haka's fine. Most NZers love it when it happens. Some don't but who cares, it's just their opinion.
Any team can stand up to the haka, but only a few teasm beat the Blacks and that's what this French team did, and did well.
Notice how suddenly no one cares that the Nzers did the Haka before the game, and all anyone can talk about is how great the French played (and they did play great, they were all over the All Blacks in the first half particularly, the defensive effort was outstanding).
So maybe if, say, Ireland for example, actually beat the All Blacks, we could stop talking about the haka, and start talking about the game.
But until that happens I guess we'll have to endure more moaning about the haka.

do your homework ROD check the wales "standing" up to the haka at cardiff here is a little example of the shit comments from precious kiwis after

    pistol said...
why do wales think they have a god given right to disrupt the haka? not even nz biggest rivals australia and south africa do it
next time wales come to nz they should boo their anthem see how they like it then
and from the ireland a haka clip commments another kiwi fool

"The Haka represents the unification of the Pakeha and the Maori and is also a great and proud rugby traidtion, which any true rugby fan would respect, even venerate.
At a guess, your a fly-by-night fan, who's jumped on board the rugby bandwagon since the Irish got a half decent team (half decent, cuz in over 100 years of rugby they've yet to beat NZ - truly an inditment on their rugby team).
The AUssie and Saffers (who are the only sides in the world to consistently beat the All Blacks) never disrespect the haka, or even let it bother them.
They just focus on the rugby game to be played, and try to, you know, beat the kiwis at the game of rugby they are playing.
Although I guess if you got your arse cnsistently handed to you on a plate for over 100 years of rugby, you'd start focussing on irrelevant detals like the haka, to draw attention away from the terrible, shameful record of a century of abject defeat.
In this game thew Irish couldn't score a single point, so what good did their petulent little challenge acually do them?
Learn how to play world-class rugby, then people will worry about whether or not you like the haka."

well you got your ass handed to you on a plate.

Then you threw some bottles at the winning team.

    Welcome to loser ville

By Blogger Kenny, at June 15, 2009 2:56 pm

  • I said that Kenny, and I'm an Aussie not a kiwi, so what you've said doesn't make sense.
My team wasn't beaten by the French, in fact we haven't lost to them in a few years.
Not that the French didn't play well. But then, the French have beaten the All Blacks quite a few times, and good on them.
They don't seem to do much whinging about the haka as well.
Also interesting that no one's talking about the haka, cuz the French won, so all anyone is talking about is how well france played.
Maybe the Irish could learn a thing or two from that.
Stop worrying about the haka, and try winning against NZ.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2009 3:01 pm

  • i couldnt give a rats ass about the haka, i was talking about resepct which includes not booing opponents for no reason and throwing bottles at them, i only brought up the haka cause alot of kiwis get precious about it.

Oh and as an aussie you should be worried if you do come up against france, they looked alot better than italy and the score line didnt really reflect the game. France would have eaten australia up going by the performances last weekend.

By Blogger Kenny, at June 15, 2009 3:14 pm

  • Yeah I'm terrified.
I like France mate, I like how they play rugby and I look forward to a good tough game against them, win lose or draw.
Eaten up though eh? Based on what? We've beaten them the last few times, so that's in our favor. We're in good form, as are they, both teams close to full strength, with a few matches to get ready.
Should be an even contest, and the best team will win.
I fancy our chances at home though, we haven't lost here against European opposition in six years, it'll take a hell of a performance from France to pull it off. We've got a stronger side than NZ put out on the weekend, that was probably the weakest team I've seen them put out in a long time.
    Anyway we'll see.
Obviously the fans who threw bottles are idiots, young drunken idiots.
And my point was that going on about the haka is pretty pointless if you can't win the game. No one will care and it just sounds like sour grapes. You dug it up, and that's all I was saying.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2009 3:52 pm

  • You have to know that, after the game of that week-end each french rugby fan is proud of his national team, but everyone is also focused on the 2 games to go. Impatient to see AB's reaction but, above all, impatient to play against a great Aussie team.
In my mind, Aussie's have maybe the most impressive 10-12-13 triangle at the moment. While, in France we have no idea about who should be on the field or on the bench, Oz have Giteau-Barnes and Mortlock who seem to be magicians. Impatient to see if O'Connor can confirm against a bigger team though.

From a french lad, sorry about my quite poor english i guess also.

  • some great running rugby played by france

while not as effective against the more deffensive NH sides it deffinatly shows its worth in the SH, makes for a much more interesting game as well

pity about the poor attitude shown by some comments, both sides had players missing, the better side overall won, end of

dissapointing about the crowds for kicks, if you want to boo go watch football, this is rugby, a sport for gentlemen

  • just wondered if any Kiwi could enlighten me as to the general feeling about murray mexted as a commentator??? I think hes brilliant....you can actually here him getting progressively more annoyed if the AB's or any NZ super14 team (ESPECIALLY crusaders) are losing. I love it as its the kind of blatent one-eyed commentry you will only here on this side of the world if you listen to Ian Wright talk about Arsenal!!!

  • France won based on their first half defensive performance, particularly at the breakdown, not running rugby.

  • "will be looking forward Ireland australia as well, could be a close one.

last time we played you was close and so much has changed since then for both teams. Very interesting."

November it'll be, and I'm sure it will be close, especially Ireland at home in a European winter.
We'll probably play in the World Cup too, and I'm sure that'll be close too, Ireland are a solid team, particularly defensively.
But they lack creativity and Gitaeu, Mortlock, Barnes, O'conner etc. should be able to create enough opportunities to beat them.
    Who knows though, we'll see.
I hope Ireland put in a bit of a better performance this world cup than they did last time, I'm sure they will though.

  • Ireland are not world cup winners, they pull off the occasional good 6N result when the other good teams like England are rebuilding, but nothing significant.

Actually, France won based on a first half running performance, and a second half defensive performance.
I don't know what you call running rugby, but for me France played superb running rugby, particularly in the first half.

  • "Ireland are not world cup winners, they pull off the occasional good 6N result when the other good teams like England are rebuilding, but nothing significant."

Rubbish, since 2003 Ireland have been on a consistently improving vein of form. In 2007 they came within ten seconds of a grand slam (just poor defence on a restart and flamboyant french counterattacking stole it), and almost took the championship regardless. As far as I remember the "good" teams weren't rebuilding then, and Ireland ran in over 40 points against England (then again you could argue England have been rebuilding since that 2003 WC win...)

Admittedly I won't shout that Ireland are favourites for the next WC so soon, but if they keep moving in the direction they're going there's no reason not to expect to see them as serious contenders for a WC before in the next cycle or two!

  • I thought this was a match between France and NZ, not Ireland vs. the World!

By Anonymous frenchpolak, at June 15, 2009 10:26 pm

  • IReland consistently overrate themselves.
They were terrible in the last world cup, and have little chance of winning the next one.
And this is a video about frnace NZ, forget Ireland anyway.

All apsects of their game were good, ball in hand and otherise.
But they had far less of the ball, made alot more tackles etc.
Their defence won them the game, it was rock solid, and particularly the turnovers they forced.
Shit mate, did you watch the game?

  • I've just read through this whole thing and the ONE thing that peed me off were the comments on booing during kicks!! WHAT!! They are telling us to be respectful because its a gentlemans game PFFT WTF are you watching! we've booed the crap out of oppositions for years. Just cause you guys do in the NH doesn't mean we have to follow suit. You guys (only the ones that have commented on it) are soooo friken prissy! Grow a back bone, grow some friken balls! I hope the crowd in NZ boo the frick out of France! Theres no respect for anyone till after the final whistle...thats going for the fans as well!!

And good luck to the Southern Kings against the prissy lions today!! SA RUGBY 4 LYFE!!

  • I think France will make quite a few changes after for next saturday. I think they might drop Ouedraogo for someone like Bonnaire and possibly Clerc for Malsau or Rougerie. What other changes do you guys think they might make?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2009 12:11 pm

  • hahahaha if i went to a rugby game in the NH and they told me to shush for whispering during the kicks, im going to crack the F*** UP! This is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard! Im like you "booooo" i hope the NZ crowds really boo, throw bottles, streak like crazy against the french (no offence to the side use were actually pretty good on Sat)...BUT...it sure as hell would annoy the crap out of all these whiny NH (minus France) who are acting like they won against this AB side when they haven't.....for many, many years! Shame on you for trying to make this game like cricket, this isn't a gentlemans sport this game is for hardworking men, not soft cocks like you lot!
And before anyone says anything i aint Kiwi, so don't even!

By Anonymous shhhhh no whispering, at June 16, 2009 12:16 pm

  • It's fine to shout and boo, who cares.
    Throwing bottles isn't cool.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2009 12:41 pm

  • yeah, i think i went overboard with the throwing of the bottles! BUT everything including the streaking i stick by!!!

By Anonymous shhhh no whispering, at June 16, 2009 12:46 pm

  • ^^ hahaha i think boo and shhh said it all lol!!

By Anonymous arrrggghhhh, at June 16, 2009 12:47 pm

  • In France we use to booo the kickers, but our British and Irish friends are very shoked about it when we play against them in Hcup and 6 Nations. So we still booo as much as we can cause it's funny.

But we don't throw bottles, that's a bit too agressive.

  • "I think France will make quite a few changes after for next saturday. I think they might drop Ouedraogo for someone like Bonnaire and possibly Clerc for Malsau or Rougerie. What other changes do you guys think they might make?"

Rougerie and Bonnaire both declined the selection with XV de France after their defeat in Top 14 Final...
Malzieu wasn't taken by the Staff so all that players won't be on the pitch during these tests.
However we might see some new players on the field this weekend.
For example, Mermoz might take the number 12, maybe Chouly could be here as n°8.
Florian Fritz maybe will be back as 13 or on the bench, while Mas will probably begin as right prop.
Here are the probable changes ;)

Concerning the boos, it's actually something common in France but I'm part of the guys who hate that rubbish behaviour, that may be reserved to soccer fans/hooligans...
How lovely is it to watch British games with a WHOLE silence during the kicks !
And I don't even speack about the bastards who think that's ok to throw bottles at players...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2009 7:59 pm

  • I poster this Anon post just above ;)

By Anonymous ToulouseFan, at June 16, 2009 8:00 pm

  • Here it comes...

Médard - Clerc, Mermoz, Traille, Heymans - Trinh-Duc (o), Dupuy (m) - Ouedraogo, Picamoles, Dusautoir (cap.) - Millo-Chluski, Chabal - Mas, Servat, Barcella
Remplaçants: Szarzewski, Domingo, Martin, Chouly, Yachvili, Jauzion, Bastareaud

Chabal on the pitch... As a rubbish he is in rucks, we can just hope he will break couple of jaws to be useful.
Otherwise it seems a good composition, excepted it's quite weird to put 2 centres on the bench in place of Beauxis (can play 10 and 15) but Jauzion and Bastareaud will bring a real hard physical impact when they'll enter the field !

By Anonymous ToulouseFan, at June 16, 2009 11:28 pm

  • RUGBY IS NOT A SPORT FOR GENTLEMAN! Don't try and change the game just because it doesn't suit your style!! Boo the crap out of the opposition, its what makes rugby sooo fluken fantastic, anything to put off the other team from getting any points!! Man i can't wait for the Springboks vs Lions games. The lions fans will see forsure how we do it in the SH!!

By Anonymous korey, at June 17, 2009 2:13 pm

  • I think france will have a monster pair of centers for the next year
fritz and mermoz are going to thrash some defences

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 17, 2009 2:43 pm

  • erm basically this argument is boring. England wins at history. Fact.
