Romain Terrain fantastic try saving chase and tackle on Rory Lamont
Toulon beat Biarritz 13-3 in the French Top 14 on Friday night, their first win away at the club in 29 years. Kris Chesney scored the only try of the match, for Toulon, but this great clip actually comes from a Biarritz forward.
Biarritz had beaten Montpellier in the first round but were unable to continue the form as they went down in a disappointing loss at the Stade Aguilera. One guy who gave his all though was hooker Romain Terrain, who made a great effort to stop Toulon fullback Rory Lamont from scoring in the corner after he had pounced on a loose ball.
Lamont returned to action, playing for Toulon for the first time since January, and looked certain to score if it weren’t for the incredible chase by the determined Biarritz hooker. The look on Lamont’s face afterwards was priceless.
A few minutes later Terrain showed his all round skills once again as he picked up a kick ahead and cleared the ball superbly. Not bad for a front rower.

^^ that's a little personal mate

How dull is that commentator! GET EXCITED MAN!!!
By 2020, at August 25, 2010 11:37 pm
I was pretty disappointed to hear Robbie Nock's "umm...uhhh...you know...like" for yet another year on Eurosport.
Oh well, beggars can't be choosers, I guess.
Terrain was all over the field the other night against Toulon; he was really impressive in his commitment. And Lamont should've been penalized for tossing the ball out like a bitch the way he did.
By afta, at August 25, 2010 11:42 pm
great tackle, was watching this game at the time and am glad someone picked up on it.
But seriously though, who lets this guy commentate? He's so hesitant at everything he says, doesn't really seem to understand the sport, doesn't know the players names, honestly Eurosport get a new commentator!
By Chris M, at August 25, 2010 11:46 pm
Man of the match for that man right there!
That was an awesome chase
By (u-p)rick, at August 26, 2010 12:03 am
i think the commentator has mild learning difficulties
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 12:04 am
Thanks RD for all the great defense clips from the ITM cup and Top 14.
I think that Lamont thought he would easily outpace the hooker, Lamont still had room to move to the left but thought he wouldn't need it.
Great chase by Terrain

nice pieces of skill from a front row hokker both times; but i just cant stop wondering what hes doing in a fullback position ?? ^^
and to all you guys critisising the commentator, he's commentating the FRENCH top14, so it's obvious he isnt gonna be as fluent with names as he would be with english lads
to prove my point, how many of you can CORRECTLY pronounce the biarritz's flyhalf 'julien peyrelongue'; or how about toulon's prop 'laurent emmanuelli'... ?? anyone??
By Luxi, at August 26, 2010 12:12 am
what a speed!!!
By techik, at August 26, 2010 12:21 am
Yes but he doesn't pronunce, Smith when he offload Wulf, he is not excited at all !
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 12:21 am
that little laugh at the end by the commentator was creepy...
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 12:26 am
re Lamont throwing the ball away: actually the hooker was probably relieved as he was wrecked! See him panting. A lot.
(don't bother getting pedantic about the rule here folks, please)
And yes its that commentator again. *Sigh*
Remember him and the auzzie (?) guy together last year? funniest think I've heard in the commentary box in ages.
They certainly added comedy value to one of the great games of last year, Toulon vs clermont in the Semi.
Surely a semi/demi frog would be better for Eurosport?
By mise, at August 26, 2010 12:55 am
That was a great covering tackle by a no 2.
By Tommy, at August 26, 2010 2:00 am
Mise, he wasn't paired with an Aussie, that guy he was with last year was a kiwi.
Different accent. Kiwis say things like 'sex' when they are trying to say 'six' and 'choice bro' when they are trying to say 'well done, my friend'.
It's subtle, but easily identified to the trained ear.
By Jono, at August 26, 2010 2:04 am
Actually, Luxi, Robbie Nock is pretty fluent in French it would seem. He even seems to know the game...sometimes. He's just really...detached? from the action. The point is that he's a pretty poor commentator.
Maybe he's just the only English boy in France fluent in French with some background in rugby who applied for the job. Surely there has to be someone else capable though...
By afta, at August 26, 2010 2:16 am
Luxi: Pay-rre-long and Emman-welli
Afta: Do I get the job?
By Disco, at August 26, 2010 2:29 am
@jono
cheers for the sexy six heads up.....i'm sure i'll hear him again soon.......
Comedy Gold, comedy gold
anyone got any in english highlights? its removed from RD now
By mise, at August 26, 2010 2:56 am
Is that guy a hooker or a centre?
gee he clearly outrun the toulon fullback. Would be nice to see him in the clear during attack though, now that would be some scene. Just look at the pace difference in the covering tackle
By Jeroz, at August 26, 2010 3:09 am
The thing I can't figure out is how he got from the lineout to the fullback position so quickly. One moment, it looked like he had a player on top of him down where the play started, the next moment he's hauling ass to stop Lamont. Crazy!
By run fatty run, at August 26, 2010 3:27 am
@ mise, what's been removed? This vid seems to be fine..?
By Greiffel, at August 26, 2010 7:08 am
Funny stuff Jono, and bro you got the accent right, well sorta. lol
As a Kiwi I gotta say the chase was good but bro the runner was dikless. Most Southern Hemisphere players would av put their head down n scored that try! Bad running!
By Orka, at August 26, 2010 7:35 am
It's English commentary, seemingly broadcast by Eurosport, but when is it actually on? I have Eurosport but they never seem to show any Top 14, it all seems to be on ESPN in the UK - or am I missing something?
By Peej, at August 26, 2010 10:18 am
that commentator is a shocker!
very nice work by that hooker!
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 10:31 am
Romain Terrain - what a kickass name.
By dolph, at August 26, 2010 11:21 am
"to prove my point, how many of you can CORRECTLY pronounce the biarritz's flyhalf 'julien peyrelongue'; or how about toulon's prop 'laurent emmanuelli'... ?? anyone??"
They're not massively hard.
Besides, if there are difficulties they should practice saying them. Names aside, that commentator is just not a natural. Like with all these things in the UK they just let bad commentators stay in their jobs. Let's have some renewal. Fire and hire! GO!
By John F, at August 26, 2010 1:31 pm
Nice skills indeed by the big-fella...Have to say the increase in pace for all the front rows in the last few years has been outstanding as a result of profesionalism.
Showing my age but I still remember when Gareth "ate all the pies" Chilcott played for England and he would had to stop running after the first 5 metres to catch his breath!
By NiWiTa, at August 26, 2010 1:43 pm
@Disco : pretty good ;)
you shud get the job
By Luxi, at August 26, 2010 3:54 pm
That commentator is useless
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 5:42 pm
not related to this commentator but how about the kiwi commentator on last sats game tri nations game he kept calling morne steyn froncois steyn lol it happened through the whole game
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 7:30 pm
@Luxi this commentator is just too 'umm'(y) and 'ahh'(y) for my liking....
Most commentators sound like it comes natural, i.e they think before they speak...
He (to me) always seems as those he is watching the game and then says to himself 'oh shit i havent said anything for a few seconds, here goes'
"and thats....ummm.....*insert name*...running down the ah..touchline, he offloads to....umm.....who is that?...oh yes its...ah....*insert name*"
I dunno, he's not the worst...I personally prefer him to Jonathon 'Armchair' Davies:
*high pitch nasal voice* "He shouldnt dooo thaaat, loook heeyer, if hee'd paassed it too the left then theree woould have beeen a threee on twooo and it woould have beeeen a tryyy"
Drives me insane...
(That being said, he knows his stuff, and for a passionate welshman he is always pretty objective towards the welsh...)
By (u-p)rick, at August 26, 2010 8:35 pm
worst commentator ever but best chase ever
By rosh, at August 26, 2010 8:47 pm
Anybody else thinking why does that commentator have a job? that's soem pretty bad commentating no?
By Anonymous, at August 26, 2010 10:18 pm
@Greiffel
Its the old Clip of Toulon Clermont that you featured a while back here on RD. Same commentator.
Its been removed - and it was an incredible game of rugby. There are clips available out there, in french, but that particular one on RD here is gone:
http://rugbydump.blogspot.com/2010/05/highlights-of-clermont-vs-toulon-epic.html
No worries if it ain't available in English, but if it is available, its so good (for both rugby and wacky commentary) it'd be worth reposting.
By mise, at August 26, 2010 11:48 pm
Worst commentator ever and I have to put up with the over the hill Australian on free to air, Gordan Bray. He used to be great with heaps of colour as he knows everyone in rugby for the last 50years but now he gets the names wrong all the time. Last test he called Dean Mumm as Sharpe all game and they have different coloured head gear for crying out loud!!!
Awesome effort by the hooker though
By Ned2or3, at August 27, 2010 5:46 am
@ Mise, thanks mate. The vid will be back up in a few hours, on the same link. Great game
By Greiffel, at August 27, 2010 1:09 pm
anyone know how to get eurosport????
i only get british eurosport and its crap! there's feck all on it
By no9, at August 27, 2010 8:38 pm
This commentator needs to do his research. "Rory Lamon"? Who is that. He is Rory Lamont. Not Le Mont or Lemont or Lamon. Get it right! Lamont is a Scottish name, not French. Numpty
