Toulouse bounce back with good win over Montpellier

Toulouse got over their disappointing Heineken Cup loss to Wasps with a 29-9 midweek win over Montpellier in the Top 14, in what was a game with lots to talk about. Great tries, a few bad misses, and a prop pulling off a sidestep.

The comprehensive four try, bonus point sees the European champions stretching their lead at the top of the table, while Montpellier are now in fifth place, with title aspirations of their own.

Wing Maxime Medard and prop Census Johnston both scored twice. Medard’s second try came from a superbly timed kick through from David Skrela, who himself kicked three conversions and one penalty on the night.

Big Samoan front rower Johnston, who we saw with an impressive run against Wasps last weekend, showed his deceptive speed again with a lovely try that included a sidestep on the way to the tryline, coming close to colliding with, and probably knocking down, the posts.

Incidentally, he signed a three year extension on his contract earlier in the day.

There were a few missed efforts, including a shocker from Rupeni Caucau over the tryline, but there was plenty of quality so its worth having a watch.

nice second try by medard, especially the perfectly weighted grubber by david skrela just in front of the defense, shame he's going to clermont at the end of the season :(

nasty charge by yannick jauzion on the grubber, he just runs over trinh-duc without the ball and elbows forwards

and i would definately not want to tackle census johnston in that kinda run for the try line

Sucks for Caucau there...would've been a great try had he snagged it up.

Medard is looking in better shape...he had put on a few pounds for a while there. While he's still pretty big for wing/fullback, he looks leaner and a little quicker.

Maybe I'm wrong?

Hah, also, I'm not sure Johnson sidestepped anyone apart from the upright. Even a guy his size isn't going to run through a goal post...

Maybe Census Johnston didn't sidestep anyone, but that guy can move!

He's listed as 138 KGs (on Wikipedia) but he runs like a center!
Maybe they should try and learn Caucau to push and switch positions with Johnston :P

Census is the future center of Toulouse ;-)

For a short moment I was scared for the post.....Hopefully, Census changed his mind and decided just to score....

Other people got there first.... I was going to say I noticed you (RD) mentioned the side step but I can't figure out who he was trying to fool.... So like others I think he was trying to side step the post....

Massive charge by Toulouse player on that drubbed kick, took down 2 Montpellier players and he didn't have the ball...

Unfortunate by Caucau, sometimes it happens though, lucky it was a game changing try...

Johnston could be one of the best tighthead prop

Skrela is playing well but not like JB al flyhalf

I think Cencus was sidestepping the post, that would have been one hell of a collision. Other than the knock on has Caucau had much game time? Is he anywhere near some sort of form?

Isn't there a rule in France that says a team scores a bonus-point if the try-difference with the opponent is 3 tries (instead of the rest of the world where the fourth try is a bonus-point try). Or has that rule changed? Or was this not a domestic match but European? I'm confused.
Nevertheless, despite or maybe even because of the missed opportunities it seems like an entertaining match

Wow, imagine having Census running at you, fuck that for a laugh.
Anyone notice (and it was only one ruck here in this video, but I've seen it before) how the refs in T14 tolerate the tackling player not releasing?
It's gonna hurt the French national team a great deal when they get to international level and have to adjust to refs who are actually enforcing the rules at the breakdown.

Yes I believe the 3 tries differences is still applied in the Top14 as the offensive bonus rule.
