Shane Williams sets the Brian Moore Big Mouth Challenge record

As we head into another big weekend of rugby, here's a quick look at something different, as Shane Williams set the record for the Brian Moore Big Mouth Challenge last weekend.

There's been a fair share of trick videos of late, the majority of which have been fake. Unfortunately this has lead to everyone being a sceptic when it comes to clips being released that show good skill. This is slightly different though, as it's a simple pass the ball through the mouth challenge.

The idea is that you get 24 balls and one minute to pass as many of them as possible through the big mouth of Brian Moore. Unfortunately his availability is such that he can't travel around the UK providing the real thing, so this life size cut-out was created to make things easier.

So far there's been a few guys give it a crack, with former Wales scrumhalf Rob Jones taking on Dan Parks, Nathan Hones, Matt Dawson and Andy Nicol, who got 8 through.

Scottish number nine Mike Blair had put up a pretty good score of 7, while fellow Scot Nicol got 8 recently. Shane Williams has since had a go and managed to set the record, passing 9 balls through the target.

Here's the short clip as it was requested and I thought it might be of interest to some of you, as I'm sure we all fancy ourselves as being able to do better. Easier said than done it seems.

  • Hmm strange. That link shows Nicol with 10 and on the version I saw he definitely only got 8. Williams and Blair aren't even mentioned on that list.

I think they might be counting them as two different comps - one is the Six Nations challenge and one is general for Scrum V maybe?

By Blogger GMC, at March 04, 2011 9:53 pm

  • Yeah RD, i think it's they're separate competitions. I think this one just involves 'scrum halfs.'

  • i woulod have that myself

  • you through it, and brian moore'll eat it !

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 04, 2011 11:08 pm

  • "Throw" it, not "through" it.

Sorry to be a pedant, but really come on please, rugby is meant to be a sport of the educated (somewhat).

  • they should do this for the Super 15 scrum halves, would let us know how good Piri Weepu really is...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 05, 2011 12:30 am

  • mike blair did it with his "weaker pass" and got 7

  • To the person above who corrected the spelling of another poster. A pedant is a person who makes an excessive show of their education by being excessively concerned with formalism or precision. HOWEVER, pedant is used as a third-person indicative, meaning that you would not use it to describe yourself. The more correct statement would be 'sorry to be pedantic'. To describe a second person, ie. if you were having a conversation with someone and wanted to accuse them of being a pedant, you would say 'don't be so pedantic'. If (as you may infer from the previous statement), you wanted to describe a third person of being a pedant, you would do so thusly 'he/she is a pedant.' So you're correction is gramatically incorrect and also erroneous in its statement. Please remember to check your own grammar before trying to correct someone elses as you will inevitably make a complete horses arse of yourself.

  • Also, educated (somewhat) makes no sense. The correction should come before the statement if it is to be bracketed. (Somewhat) educated.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 05, 2011 1:02 pm

  • Can I have a vowel please Carol? Come on lads it's a rugby blog not key stage 3 English.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 05, 2011 1:15 pm

  • And to the second anonymous pedant: it's 'horse's arse', not 'horses arse'. Want some irony with your humble pie?

Yes, it's a rugby blog, but it's clear that people just don't read enough books any more, as the correct spelling of even the most common words is deteriorating appallingly. Just last week I read on the BBC website, of all places '... write and wrong'. Simply shocking!

By Blogger Stephen, at March 05, 2011 6:55 pm

  • Who gives a fuck? I'm sure people don't come on here to get spelling, grammar and punctuation lessons from the likes of you. In fairness to the second guy, at least he was trying to show what a spastic the first guy was coming on here with his superior attitude. If you don't like the way people write on here, fuck off and read Chaucer, you bunch of hoity toity cunts.

  • Stephen

Cleerly u r de kind of guy whoo neads 2 get a lyfe and stop woreeing abowt peeples spelling and gramar. tank u veree much & fuck off.

By Anonymous stephenpoopoo, at March 05, 2011 8:06 pm

  • At the risk of becoming troll-prey:

Ah, so by your reasoning (if we can call it that) the fact that someone can spell, and knows the meaning of irony makes him a 'hoity toity cunt'? Pitiful.

Imagine this: if people started playing rugby in ways that broke the laws, to the point where you felt the game was becoming polluted and corrupted, how would you feel? Well, I just happen to feel somewhat strongly about the written language. I don't have to apologise for that. And you shouldn't be so offended by it.

And sure, people don't come here for spelling lessons, but why must you think that no-one's interested in learning from a mistake (to prevent potential future embarrassment) whatever the situation. I've been learning a foreign language for several years, and am only too glad when someone corrects my errors.

  • lol what a fag. nobody cares

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 05, 2011 11:21 pm

  • He's good running, everybody knows that... he is good passing, as we have already seen...

When are we going to see a great tackle???

Great player (superclass) with the ball in his hands... but a kind of present for other teams when he "defens"...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 06, 2011 1:51 am

  • Stephen, one should never start a sentence with the word 'And'.

    Your sincerely,

    The Grammar Police.

  • When writing posts on the internet, it is common courtesy not to write in txtspk and CAPITALS, because that's incredibly annoying to read.

Likewise, it's probably better not to write in slang or with the characteristics of your own dialect, because the reader can come from anywhere in the world and won't understand localisms.

However, complaints on spelling are over-pedantic. You possibly do look less educated by writing 'through' when you mean 'threw'. But it doesn't take more than a second to work out what the writer means. He's not being intentionally obtuse. Leave it be.

  • This was done on scrum v in the autumn internationals and that is when ryan jones got 12. It got stopped for a while and came back for the six nations.

By Anonymous Jim, at March 06, 2011 7:53 pm

  • I'm sure this looks a lot easier than it is. Fair play Shane, 9 is a good effort
