Scarlets Tries Of The Season 2010/2011

The rugby season up north has all but come to an end. For Munster, it was Magners League glory as they beat Leinster in the Grand Final, but today we look at the Scarlets, who scored some excellent tries throughout the season.

This video, all thirteen minutes of it, shows some of the great tries that Scarlets scored over the past season. While their Celtic League and Heineken Cup campaigns probably didn't go as planned, they did however show that they're more than capable with ball in hand.

Youngsters like Jon Davies and George North shone, and are both set to thrive in the coming years with both their domestic teams, and indeed Wales. The disappointing aspect for Welsh fans will be that none of their regions - Scarlets, Ospreys, Blues, or Dragons - managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup.

Despite this, the feeling at the Scarlets seems to be positive, as many homegrown players and young talent are coming through. Even though they're not winning the games that count, they're playing attractive rugby, the likes of which is at times a throwback to Welsh rugby of old.

Below is a nicely made compilation that features some excellent tries scored by the Scarlets over the past few months. It's well worth a watch, regardless of who you support. However if you feel that you'd like to see the same from your side, please feel free to get in touch with submissions and we'll have a look, and possibly post something up on here too. Enjoy the tries.

  • Yes more next Season ;)

  • Rhys Preistland's is an all time fav :)

    Power by North too. Brilliant

  • some very good tries in that bunch, although i did catch the odd forward offload or pass, but overall, the Scarlets are a great showcase of running and attacking rugby, even in the H Cup

  • looks good, but then you'd have to wonder why they didn't go further in the Heineken. I haven't seen many of their games, are they weak in defence?

Jonathon Davies looks like a top centre here, hasn't shone on the international stage yet but maybe just a matter of time, how old is he?

  • Best attacking team in the league last season hands down!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 1:09 pm

  • Some cracking tries in there. A bit more forward power needed to succeed in the Heineken though.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 1:25 pm

  • It looks like the whole scarlet's back line is going to the WC this year. Lets hope it doesn't affect the team to much at the beginning of the season.

Fantastic team with a great tradition.

Whoever is managing the scarlets backs needs to be in the wales set up. The national team has looked so blunt in attack over these last 2 or 3 years. I think they are in desperate need of some more distributors because at the moment they just seem to have battering rams. Shows why Gavin Henson is important to Gatland.

  • Scarlets have some back line. I could see them doing even better next season. Jon Davis is 23 according to wiki. I think he should get more chances for Wales and it would be unfair to have the likes of Henson chosen over him.

Would love to see one of these done for Ulster. We had an awesome season and all the tries can be found on on the UAFC youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheUAFC?ob=5

  • Nice video. Were'nt scarlets struggling in magners leage a few years ago? Great to see the youngsters come through the ranks and produce such performances. Great handling, props passing, loosies running wild... Nice.

Also, if both are fit and have time to gel in time for the WC, how about Jonathan Davies and Jamie Roberts for a centre pairing?

By Anonymous The Green Mafia, at June 15, 2011 1:56 pm

  • Great upload RD - thanks.

Scarlets look red hot in attack. Some great tries in there, but I think the pick of the bunch for me is Rhys Priestland's against Perpignan. Regan King is a classy player, and this is a great example of counter-attacking precision on turnover ball. T R Y time

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 1:58 pm

  • As a Scarlets fan, we produce some absolutely great attacking rugby at times. However, our defence and tight play leaves a lot to be desired; Perpignan and Leicester blew us away in the HC.

Still, a few years ago we were almost rock bottom, 0-6 in the HC, almost bottom of the ML last year so to see the improvement is a great thing. Onwards and upwards!

  • Oh and Nigel Davies is heach coach and in charge of the backs and his time with Wales didn't go too well. I think he is a better coach now though and will surely be involved with Wales in the future.

  • Thanks, good thing to have all tries from one team in a video like this.

  • Great video. More for other clubs please .. Leinster and Munster

  • Jon Davies looks pretty handy. Not looking forward to his international career, especially against England.

By Anonymous Nick, at June 15, 2011 2:45 pm

  • There's a Scarlets tries of the season video for the season before too on youtube, and Davies is either scoring or assisting.. he's everywhere.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 3:08 pm

  • Screw Davies, King is the man!

By Anonymous Cheesekiwi, at June 15, 2011 3:36 pm

  • Some fantastic tries there. The centres seem a huge attacking threat. Was a good watch, wish more clubs had compilations like this. Instead we get treated with a sub-standard 2010/2011 tries of the season compilation.
Jonathan Davies scored some nice ones/made some nice line breaks for a few assists. My favourite was the first try by Priestland.

By Blogger medicaluke, at June 15, 2011 3:40 pm

  • They might score nice tries but that doesnt excuse their piss poor defence, didnt the ospreys beat them by over 60 points?

By Anonymous ElTigre, at June 15, 2011 3:50 pm

  • Sure big defences win you games but when you see running and passing like this it makes rugby a real joy to watch.

    By Anonymous JJ89, at June 15, 2011 3:58 pm

  • Lol, try's like this happen every super rugby game. Nothing special...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 4:00 pm

  • Very nice moves over here. Scarlets played well this season. But u must point the low level of competitions such like magners league or LV (perpignan and leicester contests where the only valuables) where most of teams played like if it was a training session. the lack of tension and pression explains this open game :)

By Anonymous Colombes, at June 15, 2011 4:01 pm

  • At least 3 tries in this video are serious contenders for "rugby union try of the year". The highlights show a very powerful Jonathan Davies and a very slick George North, good for Wales! Also worth mentioning: the Scarlet's left prop never keeps the ball in hand too long, he always seems to want to get rid of it, and sometimes produces some nice offloads in the process.

  • Really enjoyable video RD... Scarlets vs. Perpignan was one of the games of the season! Scarlets are let down by away form and defence however I think they will be a better team next year once they get their world cup stars back!

    By Anonymous Leeners93, at June 15, 2011 5:46 pm

  • Seriously, why don't Wales just combine the Scarlets backline and the Ospreys pack. Cut out the middle men like Powell etc.

If you can attack like that and just sort out your defence you'll go far!

By Anonymous Go back to bed America, at June 15, 2011 6:02 pm

  • Now if they had a defense, they'd be a serious threat rather than an occasional one. Easterby is their man at the moment, I believe. There'll be big demands of him next season. If he meets them, their Heineken Cup pool becomes even more competitive. Jonathan Davies is a cracking player!

    By Blogger wow-jiffy-lube, at June 15, 2011 6:43 pm

  • Stoddards deffence is pretty weak sadly (see Wales v Baabaas) but he's def a lot better than bryne these days.I doubt there is any other team in the NH who could produce a video like this

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 6:52 pm

  • how have I never heard of Jon Davies?? That guys a try scoring machine!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 7:48 pm

  • running straight is the key

By Anonymous cornetto, at June 15, 2011 8:12 pm

  • I'm more than a bit bummed that Regan King won't be playing with the Scarlets any more. He's got some slick hands.

Our boys' rugby is the most pleasing to watch, but if you notice the scores during these clips, we're almost always coming from behind. As has been said, our defence is a little suspect, and we're lacking mass in the pack.

But we were the highest or second highest scoring team in the ML this season. And when the support play is this good, it's just a pleasure to watch, and makes me proud to be a Turk.

Nigel Davies is working wonders down at Parc y Scarlets. Yma o hyd!

  • Awesome tries in there, should make it compulsary viewing for scotlands backs - might teach them how to pick a line, offload and generally show some creativity!!!

Lets stay on topic though. Great video, wonderful tries. 13 minutes flew by

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 11:05 pm

  • Great improvement from last year an amazing way to build a team on a shoe string, made some great discoveries in the youth (ben morgan for one). Both the dragons and scarlets have discovered world class players because they couldn't afford anyone else and found they were on the door step. Osprays have realized this and got rid of the overpayed arrogant to**ers that plague the modern game and concentrate on youth development.
With a better defense and no injuries in the pack (down to 3rd and 4th choice loosehead for a large part of the season)they should be a force. Keep the running pack, the modern game needs one, scrum is becoming irrelevant.

Also they didnt qualify for magners finals because Gatland took both numbers 10s for the 6nations and didnt play priestland in one game (twat) 2 months with no game time in the hight of the season is not good. Sorry for the rant great clip, are they looking like the feature Barcelona of rugby?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 15, 2011 11:26 pm

  • King and Davies made a great centre partnership, so many tries coming from cheeky little offloads between the two, and then great offloading all 'round the team. Shame that King is off to France.

Playing rugby like this can get attendances up and from there there will be more revenues to put together a winning package. More like this please!

By Anonymous Krang, at June 16, 2011 9:59 am

  • Perpignan try was great but my favourite is the one against Edinburgh at 11:16, i think every scarlet player touches the ball in the build up to the try and great offloading!

By Anonymous JD, at June 16, 2011 12:04 pm

  • you'd think they're actually a good team watching this

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2011 12:38 pm

  • Dont mean to be a naysayer but after watching this compilation and then the Leinster compilation; the passion and strength in the Leinster compilation is far better than in this one. all tries scored against top oposition as opposed to Trevisio and Aironi in this package. Stll Scarlets are tough to stop when they get in their zone. Their just a little too light up front and can get battered around away from home.

By Anonymous Kenny, at June 16, 2011 1:26 pm

  • dont think regan king is a great player really . id prefer to see a welsh centre in there instead

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2011 2:08 pm

  • Leinster tries feed the rugby soul and content the rugby mind!

We'll produce tries like this next year, you'll all see!

By Anonymous Ospreylia, at June 16, 2011 7:20 pm

  • Priestland's creativity really stands out in this video.

Problem with the Scarlets this year in the Heineken Cup was their weakness up front. Their problem in the Magners League was that refs weren't playing the new law variations and weren't forcing teams to release the tackler before contesting therefore taking away the advantage of the attacking team. When the ref did play the new laws, such as in the Perpignan game, we saw some real fire works.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2011 7:24 pm

  • Some good tries there, good stuff

By Anonymous fitness equipment, at June 16, 2011 9:53 pm

  • I've just been told that I have to move to Dublin.
    I think I'll support Leinster.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 17, 2011 5:57 pm

  • Now compare this to the what the Wales backline have been producing the last 3 years...(the odd Shane Williams flash of brilliance not withstanding...)
