Bryan Habana - Great solo tries

Against the Blues, Bryan Habana scores in the corner, then directly from the kickoff he gets the ball again and this time runs 85 meters to score in the exact same corner.

Absolutely brilliant. An amazing try, and incredible that he'd just scored before that too.

  • MAN those tries are the man, the greatest, i lOVE Habana, hes my idol, i wonder if he could beat Asafa Powell ?

  • Brilliant, gives me the chills! Wish he'd regain that form.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 08, 2007 11:05 pm

  • shame he cnt do dat 4 South africa at da mo! we need som1 hu could challenge new zealand!! hell of a try tho man go u!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 18, 2007 5:12 pm

  • He sure is fast I'd like to have seen him and caucaunibuca have a race caucaunibuca was extremely fast too but I think habana would leave him for dust now.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 07, 2007 4:14 am

  • Yeah hes special alright, Habana but compared to Cullens effort against the Tahs in "96 I don't think it holds a candle.
Cullens try was 98m & he beat atleast 6 defenders of note from a scrum, where defences are set.
Habana still has time to compete with Cullens effort, but i don't think that one rates up there with Culens top tries

  • Yeah Habana has bags of pace and that 85m sprint was awsome, but hit has nothing on the fiji counter attack in the 2003 world cup against france which saw caucaunibuca leave 5 defenders in his wake

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 23, 2007 10:18 pm

  • I cna't belive someone is even considering that habana could beat asafa powell!as good as this guy is on a rugby pitch he is no match for powell's speed on tartan

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 27, 2007 11:47 am

  • IM a kiwi, and those tries were brilliant he definitely is a try scoring machine.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 31, 2007 3:25 pm

  • Habana is not that good.

Yeah he's fast but thats about it, no ball skills doesn't go looking for the ball unless its an interception. Teams will work out how to play against him and he'll be left floundering. Its no way one of the best solo tries.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 11, 2007 4:25 pm

  • Slackerlifestyle... you obviously haven't seen any footage of him this season then? He's had an incredible few months scoring some brilliant tries. Proving he's not just pace.

Don't know how you can say he has no ball skills. Once again, you obviously haven't watched any rugby this season.

But hey, every has their own opinion. :)

  • habana is over rated
dont get me wrong hes a class act but he isnt as interesting 2 watch as sum1 lk rokococo hu can leave a man 4 dead in the space of about 1 inch.
    gr8 pace thou

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 18, 2007 8:26 pm

  • it looked like that touch judge was standing still haha...ok, he won't beat asafa on tartan, but i wonder how he would do against him on a rugby pitch..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 06, 2007 9:04 pm

  • he is fast... but not entertaining

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 10, 2007 5:12 pm

  • you all must be nutts! Habanna is the winger in the game and if he improves his hands he could be 1 of the best ever

By Anonymous Anonymous, at August 21, 2007 2:44 am

  • personally i think habana is overated too, hes got pace n feet but thats about it, caucau could prob leave him for dust wen he was at his prime
but you cant leave out underated players for lower teams like onohato
and if you watched the test matches earlier (england v south africa) on the second i think it was mathew tait caught up with him!!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 10, 2007 8:25 pm

  • Asafa Just broke the w.r 9.74 i doubt any of these rubgy boys would crack 9.9x.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 11, 2007 3:29 pm

  • Yes your right mathew tait caught up with him, coming off the bench with fresh legs after Habana had played a lot of the game?
Habana boring? Interesting point of view, never thought someone who has 26 tries in 29 games would have ever been described as boring. Overrated? again interesting, I guess on that I can only say that I thought Lomu was over rated, and I guess Habana at least scored against New Zealand something Lomu could never do against SA? Pace and feet and that's it? How about a tackle that can turn ball over? Oh well someone once told me that opinions are like toilets, you've got to have them, most people do and some stink.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 22, 2007 11:42 am

  • will everone shut up about tait catching habana. habana had no reason to sprint they had already put the 5 points on the board. habana's 100m time is 10.2 thats olympic qualification time and tait doesn't run anywhere near that if he was faster he would be doing athletics for england seeing as though they dont have a sub 10 seocond sprinter

By Anonymous Anonymous, at October 28, 2007 12:54 am

  • Second try is awesome. Reminds me of Rokocoko's run against England after the kickoff (though he didn't score).

By Blogger Unknown, at November 03, 2007 1:06 am

  • Well said Anon (Sep 22 11:42am). Why not just acknowledge a great player for what he is. Lomu was a great player (possibly the greatest), Rockococo, McCaw, Carter, etc are all great players. Habana have now entered that league, and is veying for supremacy. Only 24, voted as the IRB player of the year, joint record holder for most tries scored in the RWC (none of them boring), etc. Calling him over-rated or boring, is a clear sign that you are either too patriotic to the country you are supporting (whoever that might be), or that you don't really have a clue about rugby. Give credit to where credit is due - welcome to a very elite club Bryan. Thanks for all the entertainment you've given us, and we hope you can carry on the good work!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 07, 2007 1:43 am

  • howw great try
but i think culler was the best in that effort against the warathas!!! but it stills a great try for habana

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 25, 2007 9:21 am

  • i dont think like you! i think that sometimes habana is predictable but there are sometimes he is exciting but i think rokocoko or robinson give us more entertainment that habana but habana is a great player no doubt about it!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 25, 2007 9:28 am

  • he definately wouldnt beat asafa powell. asafa powell is trained to run, his whole technique is to run. Then again, habana cant do much else. slacker life style, good call. England Vs RSA in the group stages. Habana went wild. Final, different story, because habana is the same old. if he gets the ball, he will run. if he doesnt, he wont go looking. !! DMP

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 10, 2007 8:04 pm

  • Habana is overrated. Doug Howlett is fast, a good tackler, looks for work, works hard and has been an all black wing for 7 straight years!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 13, 2007 6:52 am

  • yea and now smashed a car
just face it habana did enter the league of best players of all time!!
and he is everything but boaring

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 07, 2008 2:20 pm

  • Why is it that when I player is clearly made of quality, like Habana, then other people want to knock him down?

Slag him all you like, but I guarantee, give him an inch and he'll score against your team next time they play, so be prepared.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 16, 2008 2:20 pm

  • Habana cant step lol his footwork is like chris martin the nz cricketr

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 21, 2008 9:34 pm

  • People slagged the greatest winger of all time, Big Jonah, for all sorts of dumb reasons. Btyan has the same thing. Funny thing is, their records are way above anybody else.

Habana will join Lomuh as the greatest wingers to ever play.

The rest of you sour losers had better just learn to live with that.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 23, 2008 3:09 pm

  • habana may not be the quickest winger in world rugby but he has other qualities other than pace which is what most people only notice. His defence is solid like when he dump tackled Mose Tuilai'i or when he nailed Paul Sackey in the world cup final 07. He has the ability to stop-start and likes to do interceptions which end up with him scoring a try under the posts. He also is very strong which allows him to slip out of tackles like Rokocoko. He has good vision like when he does his kick and chases. He is a fantastic all-round winger and deserves to be named player of the year. He is not as quick as Ohata, Caucau (when fit) or Chavanga. He has been getting cocky though as Ngwenya in the world cup left him for dead when Habana thought he'd be slow. Ngwenya smartly wrong-footed Habana and so even though Habana was catching up on him, he had no chance catching Ngwenya. The way to stop Habana scoring is by dummying the long pass when he's lurking for an interception and runnig through the gap.

  • habana is fast and amazing but he got put on his backside by the worlds best winger (and 2nd best in history) shane williams

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 09, 2008 8:18 pm

  • To be totally and completely, and evily biased.
the greatest winger of all time: Gerald Davies.
to dispute this is folly. :D

    Shane Williams (atm)
    Brian Habana
    Joe Rokocoko

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 27, 2008 6:52 pm

  • 'habana is fast and amazing but he got put on his backside by the worlds best winger (and 2nd best in history) shane williams'

WHATT???!! Haha I can't believe someone would actually think that. Shane Williams is FAR from being up there with the best wingers of all time.

Maybe it's more like, 'the winger who's had a great year'. Anything but all time. lol

And even besides that, Habana is just as good a finisher and has a MILES higher workrate than Williams has ever or will ever have.

Scoring tries by stepping defenders doesn't make you a GREAT winger I'm afraid to say.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 27, 2008 7:26 pm

  • wow i hope that was sarcasm. obviously he couldn't beat asafa powell. they're both awesome athletes though.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 11, 2008 9:19 am

  • This try is pure brilliance sure but I agree with some of the comments above saying that it might not be for example the best solo try ever. The pace is there so is the speed but I prefer watching players going sideways and having different angles of race (like the C. Cullen try with the hurricanes fors instance). Yet Habana is a great player, it's just that I'm a little bit old school sometimes and I tend to prefer style to sheer performance (as we will all agree that all those wingers run at the same speed, or more or less, don't they?)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 19, 2008 6:59 pm

  • Habana has got a set of jets, but he doesn't make plays, and he doesn't go looking for the ball. Give him space and theres no doubt he'll make 50 meters and score a try, but he's got some way to go before he can be put with the best. Cullen's try was much better, but Habana's very young and has a lot of time. I believe the best winger at the moment is Shane Williams.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at August 02, 2008 7:23 am

  • Great stuff...

As an American, now living "down under" I've followed rugby quite a bit, union and league....but I don't see the Ze Ngwenya try against SA, where he out-ran Habana...we're getting there

    :(

By Anonymous Anonymous, at August 15, 2008 6:45 pm

  • John, search a bit harder man, the Ngwenya try is on here. :)

Look for 'Takudzwa Ngwenya smokes Bryan Habana'
