Dan Carter pinpoint crosskick for the try

The Crusaders put in another impressive performance this weekend, this time against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Dan Carter marshalled the troops superbly as always, doing the basics exquisitely and showing glimpses of brilliance at times.

This cross kick to put Sean Maitland in the corner was just another example of how Carter makes the game look so simple, and once again shows why he's rated by many as the number one flyhalf in the world.

  • Carter IS the best flyhalf in the world and im an aussie. easily in fact, and if anyone thinks wilkinson is they have 2 be english cause he can only kick and tackle

  • Awesome try, carter is the best flyhalf in the world at the moment, but has a while to go yet before he can be compared to johnny in his pomp.

  • While I think Carter is the best 10 playing today, the first comment ("Have 2 be English") was just moronic.

To be great(-est) you don't have be the best at every aspect of the game. Carter clearly has a wider repertoire than Wilkinson, but nobody has done more at No. 10 than the latter to help a side win the big matches (the best sign of 'greatness' surely). The last 2 WC's have demonstrated the difference: Wilkinson's "kick and tackle" took England to one WC and another final behind a team that was, on paper, weaker than the ABs. The AB's losses both times weren't Carter's fault per se, but he didn't ignite or take control like W did. In time, Carter may well be seen to be the greatest 10, but he will have to do more than just show his brilliance at games like these; he, like ABs themselves, will have to do it at the WC. Good luck to them.

  • As an independent rugby fanatic from Wales, I must add on.

Butch James and Hernandes are in my opinion great flyhalves as well, not standing back to the likes of Wilkenson or Carter in any way.

Has anybody been watching Bath's games recently?

Butch James is playing some of the best rugby I've seen yet from flyhalf ito distribution, deffense and setting up a backline, and was a monster in the worldcup 2007.

  • yea I'd agree with Kerivoula. Although this try just looks like he's been watching a lot of Ronan O'Gara videos

  • finally he got this one right.....
I'd seen him doing this trick a lot of times during the tests, all of them failed anyway, so it's a relief to see that he FINALLY got this one correct.
Btw, rugbydump, can you put up the Tuitavake try?

  • Good to see Carter being influenced by ROG ! :P Haha !

Why do Wilkinson only sdee him as being one dimensional !? He's a fantastic all round player. Carter, James, Contepomi, Hernandez, Michalak, Hook, ROG, Skrela ? We are clearly blessed with the amount of great 10s out there !

  • a cross kick? that's scraping the barrel a little don't you think? I've seen fat Andy Goode pull off plenty of successful cross kicks. he even overcooks it a little.

  • I'm going to agree with Kerivoula,
being the 'best' and being 'great' are two different things... the best team wins alot (all blacks) the great teams, win the games that matter (sprinboks WC FINAL 07).... just like Johnny slotting the drop goals to WIN the games that matter...england crap for four years, wilko comes back WC year, and they make the final, co-incidence?????? don't think so...oh, i'm from NZ in case that mattters...

  • ROG pulls off way better cross field kicks
    and he pulls off more
    england
    scotland
    italy
    wales
    even with the lions
    the list goes on

  • ignorantsss!!! juan martin hernandez is far the best fly half...he kicks, runs, steps, tackles, has awesome passing, pace, but most importantly...HE HAS BALLSSSSS...carter and wilkinson lack the balls

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 09, 2008 12:21 am

  • As a welshman, being critical of English tens is a speciality, but to say Jonny wilkinson lacks " balls" is a ridiculous comment. Mortlock almost seperated his shoulder in the 2003 world up final and yet he stayed on a put the final nail in. Lack of creativity at times yes. Lack of Balls, never.

  • i'm sorry but i must say carter isn't going to remain the greatest, i deeply respect him as a player but keep an eye out for cipriani i can exect more from him than from wilkinson and that's saying so much

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 24, 2008 2:17 am

  • *Cough Cough* Anybody heard of Hernandez? Yeah, that Argentinian guy who basically rips everyone...and Im French (not a Stade Francais supporter) so the fact that Argentina put us to shame twice would normally make me hate that guy.

  • They're all good I guess- but you have to see the games to know what he's worth. Who is the one that makes the breaks? He creates moments of brilliance. See for yourself... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpKsDsCJhv8
