Guinness Premiership Final preview - Wasps vs Leicester

It will be a world record club attendance when London Wasps face off against Leicester Tigers in the Guinness Premiership Final at Twickenham. It has been a long, gruelling road for both teams but they'll have no doubt recovered from their respective semi-final clashes a fortnight ago and will be prepared for one final showdown.

The battle-hardened World Cup winner, Lawrence Dallagio will play his 399th game for London Wasps, leading a typically robust forward pack including James Haskell and Phil Vickery. There was some shuffling in the back line to be done for Wasps as Riki Flutey shifts to stand-off (following the Danny Cipiani injury) and Josh Lewsey steps up to the wing while Mark van Gisbergen gets a start at fullback.

It's an all-international set of backs for Leicester who will look to Andy Goode and All Black Aaron Mauger to be the generals. Englishmen Harry Ellis, Dan Hipkiss, and Tom Varndell, Samoan Alesana Tuilagi and Irishman Geordan Murphy, complete the Tigers back line. It's the same back line (and forward pack) that took Leicester Tigers into the final, but will it be enough to shut down Dallagio and his Wasps?

No doubt, it will be a war of attrition and perhaps even another last minute drop goal is on the cards? Whatever the fate of the Premiership Trophy is, it is sure to be a matter of inches separating the two sides.

This short clip is a bit of a build up for the game, and features a few of the better moments from this season that helped both sides get to this point.

  • I reckon Tigers will win this. I would have gone with Wasps had Cipriani not dislocated his ankle. Hes always the architect in wasps flowing backline moves...

  • Ahem.
It's officially Wasps vs Leicester, not the other way around :-p
Dallaglio's 399th game? That's unfortunate. Maybe he'll come back for one more next year to make it a nice round number...

  • Loved the editing, loved the Musec!
    Great preview!

Ill be betting my money on Tigers, but it could very well go either way. Just look at their last clashes. The Anglo-Welsh game was won by the Tigers, but Wasps had their revenge.

Riki Flutey will be key in the outcome of the match. How well we he match Andy Goode? Im anxious to find out.

  • contrary to popular belief, i think wasps backs will be far better than leicesters, far too much pace in the midfield, hipkiss mauger and goode are much slower than waldouck flutey and waters
should be an interesting game though

  • i am going to say it hinges on Andy Goode if he is confident then tigers if he gets hit hard making him think about what he is doing then wasps. and Jack Goode has been in the england set up but he just has not performed at international.
Lawrence all the best hope Corry and Lawrence have a little tussle to see who is better

  • If goode is good then tigers can really perform to there top standards. Tigers are really very very very lucky to be in this final. If good does well then he will releace varndell and tuilagi and have thim make an impact. Geordan murphy needs to get involved caus he is a genious (way better then dempsey) and also we need mauger to perform so he can work well with hipkiss. Prety much, if goode is on a bed day, we're skrewed. Wasps need to find something in flutey to make up for cipriani. Woh will do the goal kicking for wasps? does anyone know?

    C'MON TIGERS!!!!!
