Ireland almost lose to Georgia!?

Another dismal performance from a superpower, and another brilliant performance from a minnow.

Georgia controlled the game with their big men and forced their way into Ireland's territory. An intercept try, shown here, took them into the lead late in the game. Ireland came back with a try to scrape past and the secure the vital win with the final score being 14-10, despite the Georgians pounding away at their line right till the end.

Ireland's RWC 2007 hopes are falling apart. What do they need to do to click for next week's must-win meeting with France? Do they still have a chance to come right or has that time come and gone?

Irish coach Eddie O'Sullivan is puzzled, and he admits that if they don't get over this slump they're destined for an early World Cup exit.

  • Intelligent move by the goergian interceptor, when i first saw that i thought he was going directly to tackle O'driscoll

  • Georgia would have won if they could drop-kick those opportunities

  • Great RWC, the emerging nations are potential giant killers and hold the second position in groups A B and the first in group D. Cosolidated nations, such as England, or France are clearly handicaped ¿Will we see some equality at last?

P.S. I Hope the trouble with copyrights will soon be solved. I suggest massive youtube uploading in order to have more than just one font.

  • i dont think argentina is an emerging nation, it is no longer a surprise team, it is a consolidated team for already 8 years.

ireland lost because it thaught in the bonus b4 thinking in winning the match.

  • · I think Argentina is slightly more consolidated than Italy. And I wouldnt say that it is a remarcable nation among the ones that have something to say in rugby. Yes they are better than Tonga or Fiji, but they dont reach France or England's level, untill now, ¿Who knows?

    · I think Ireland almost lost their game by the same reason that France did: demotivation, as they thought that the opponent had nothing to do; and lack of ressources, when they saw themselves in an uncorfortable situation.

  • I´m argentinian, sorry about my english. with all respect i want to answer who said this "Yes they are better than Tonga or Fiji, but they dont reach France or England's level, untill now, ¿Who knows?" Argentinian union was founded in 1899, we has defeated all the bigs team except All Blacks, we have tied in 21 points one time with them. Our budget for the Pumas is 2,5 millon dollars, is less than 5% of the Frence one. Our local league is amateur, of course our Pumas not, but because most of them plays in Europe. So now everybody is saing that we should play tri nation or 6 nation, but this should be have happen several year ago...

  • What is with the IRB and video take downs?

Their new motto should be "It's a global game (but only if you've paid us for it)"

Up there with the ICC and the IOC on the clueless scale.

  • awful awful performance thank God Reddan, Trimble and Flannery are on. I would have given Murphy a chance as well. Even so, Ireland really need to improve or else were going to be destroyed by the french and the Argentinians

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 18, 2007 8:54 am

  • plz get the video back up i haven't seen it

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 18, 2007 10:35 am

P.S. Si juegan 6 nations, háganlo en Madrid.

  • notice the outdated stringer was playing. he seems to think his passes are bullet like in his state of smugness as he has never ever been dropped in since his debut for ireland. obviously not. i think they should stick with the replacement scrum half that they brought on-Eoin Reddan against france and argentina he was much much better

  • wat a pathetic exscuse.the irish lost to the argies because the argies are a better team and they are underdogs.they should be an inspiration to us all.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 16, 2007 8:26 pm

  • dont cry for me, Ireland...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 16, 2008 5:24 am

  • i read all comments al about ireland ireland ireland now-one talks about georgians they just needed a little bit more experience cause they played only 2nd WC and they improved pretty much in 2003 georgia lost against ireland 70 - 7 now we almost won and next game is our victory ...... georgia will be one of the best teams if we can play against strong teams more often because we only play against equal rivals on WC.... nations cup for georgia is to easy only portugal and romania play there and they can't compete with georgians.....
