Corne Krige elbow on Martin Johnson

As all English fans out there will remember, this was the infamous test where Krige got cited afterwards for a number of dirty incidents. In one crazy ruck, he even swung a punch that knocked out his own teamate Andre Pretorious!

Don't get me wrong, we have great respect for Krige. He's a legendary Springbok captain who always led from the front with his courageous never say die attitude, and off the field he's a true gentleman.

But, he did lose the plot at times, and actually ended his Super 12 career with suspension after inexplicably head butting a Chiefs player.

He was strangled and pulled down from the maul by Johnson in this incident, so you can understand the provocation, but it's fair to say that this Test was one that he'd rather erase from the history books if it were possible.

  • Well he screwed that up didn't he. If you are going to elbow Johnno you'd best make sure you get it on target and put him out of the game.

  • To be honest, i love martin johnson,im not an english supporter, being a bit of english, irish and scottish means that i can support scotland without any guilt, but he kinda deserved it he had Krige round the neck, but then that was also a seriously lame attempt at elbowing!! he missed his head!!!

  • krige is an absolute legend.put his body n d line every time he stepped nto a rugby field.without doubt, 1 of d hardest men ever to play at international level.wouldnt take a backward step from any opponent n a rugby field even the extremely tough martin hohnson

  • has anyone else noticed that most of the videos where someone is getting punched or stamped on or elbowed on this website is done by a south african!!?? dosent really surprise me though

  • Typical dirty south african player, those guys are all filth, just look at Bakkies Botha, he's the dirtiest player to ever strap on a pair of boots!

  • yeh bakkies botha is a seriously dirty player. in the period that this elbow took place i think SA were the dirtiest team in the world. they have improved but they still have a couple of players who seem to think you win a game by fighting. none as bad as hooker dalton was though

  • Agree with the last comment, about Dalton. We played against him at high school Athlone Vs Jeppe. It turned into a massive fight, in the newspapers and everything. Guess who started it....

I have noticed though that whenever there is a clip involving an English player, the slagfest starts... whats that all about

  • Dirtiest players in the world? Danny Grewcock, Justin Harrison. You notice it's always the English whingeing when their players are just as bad. Take the bitching about Umaga and Mealamu when the took out BOD - Grewcock actually bit someone in the same game but they conveniently forget that and say it was just the Kiwi'w who were dirty.

  • Um hello, Martin Johnson was strangling him for petes sake! lol
No wonder Krige had a go at hime! Wouldn't you??

And in all honesty I think if Krige had wanted to crack him in the nose, he could have. It was more of a push.

Lighten up guys, it's just a little wrestle between two hard as nails captains - why start insulting eachothers countries?? THAT my friends is lame.

  • Can't believe anyone's sticky up for Krige!Fair enough he was provoked this time, but he spent the rest of the match taking potshots at all the other England players.Dirty bastard

  • Corne Krige is ACE, iam english, but johnson tried to strangle Krige! The english always complain wen they get hit, the english r more dirty cos they continue to be dirty and think they can get away with it. when they r shown to be bad they ALWAYS come up with the excuse that they ere hit, it takes 2 to tango. their attitude is a disgrace! they think they are above the rules of the game, dont 4get what goes round comes round. the english press are to blame they seem to condone their players being dirty and not others being dirty to their players. GOD is watching, beware english!!
