Bevin Fortuin knocked out from a big swinging arm
Valke and Springbok Sevens player Schalk van Der Merwe knocks out Freestate Cheetahs Fullback Bevin Fortuin with a serious clothesline in last nights Currie Cup match in Bloemfontein.
Van der Merwe catches his opponent on the chin, immediately knocking him unconscious.
The ref somehow missed this incident though and the guilty party got away with it, although he will be cited no doubt. Makes you wonder if the TMO or at least the big screen in the stadium should be allowed to be brought into the game for incidents like this?
The game heated up after this, as the Cheetahs were looking for a bit of revenge. Though it became a tad too aggressive at times, the match was an enjoyable one with glimpses of some brilliant running rugby; not just brutal defense.

Nothing wrong with that, he was just helping wipe a bit of food off his lip

This hitting with the forearm is becoming to prominent lately. And if they keep getting away with it, it's going to continue. He knew he had no tackle, he was just being a douchebag.

about your suggestion to show incidents on the big screen- it doesn't really work, as it can lead a ref to be influenced by the crowd as the incident is replayed over and over again. I also agree with Chris- stiff arm/swinging arm tackles are becoming a bit of a problem, and it's getting into junior leagues too.

59-21 after 59 minutes!?!?! Bloody hell with tackling as bad as that one no wonder it was a high scoring game. Anyone know what the final score was?
