Ma'a Nonu finishes off a great team try

Someone once said that the great players always find themselves in the right place at the right time. It's no coincidence that certain guys regularly score more tries than others. You work hard enough, get yourself into position, and reap the rewards.

Ma'a Nonu did exactly that to finish off this excellent team try by the Hurricanes against the Reds on the weekend. Turnover ball against any New Zealand side is dangerous, and the 'Canes showed that in no uncertain terms by punishing the Reds with this 80 meter effort.

Weepu, Gopperth, Masoe, Gopperth, Nonu - trytime. The basics done really well at speed by some really talented players who show just a glimpse of what they're capable of. I've always been a fan of the Hurricanes brand of rugby, from back in the days when Christian Cullen, Tana Umaga, and Lome Fa'atau were running riot. This try, epitomises the counter attacking flair that the 'Canes have always possessed, albeit through a different generation of players.

As for discarded All Black Nonu, a well deserved try after many superb line breaks.

  • What hope the Reds this year? God help them if they lose Latham. They're not a one-man team, but having already lost McMeniman, Cordingley et al., they're going to reply on Latham more than usual. Is that possible?

  • don't know all that much about New Zealand rugby, but Ma'a Nonu plays right wing? good god.

great team try, great awareness of each other.

  • nonu doesnt play wing for all blacks due to the fact they had rockoco, sivivatu, howlett and gear. he plays centre usually but has lost his way in recent times i think. He has poor disipline and can miss important tackles now and then. Also i wouldnt kick out toeava for him but yes he is a great ball runner

  • nonu plays outside centre and toeava is a far better option even though they both make mistakes. nonu isn't great when he's turned and isn't a good distributor. he also drops the odd ball. he is one of the best runners in world rugby though and was made to look even better by having tana umaga covering for him. now umaga's gone nonu needs to concentrate on developing his all-round game. i'm sure he'll play for the all blacks again

  • Having to choose between tackling Nonu or Masoe is just wrong.

  • Did anyone actually see the turnover? Only thing I can see is a reds player running at the hurricanes deffense and they're off.

  • Looks like Piri Weepu got the turnover, possibly from a dropped ball, not really a rip or anything. I could be wrong though.
