Chris Czekaj breaks his leg

The Cardiff Blues flyer suffered a broken right leg in the 31-0 second Test loss to Australia in Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. Czekaj suffered the injury in the 22nd minute, twisting badly in a tackle by Wallaby hooker Stephen Moore.

The 21-year-old underwent surgery in Brisbane on Sunday and has been told he cannot fly home for at least 14 days. However, the Welsh Rugby Union is flying Czekaj's girlfriend out to Australia to keep him company until he can return to Wales.

We wish him a speedy and painless recovery.

WARNING: The video shows him twisting and literally breaking his leg. It's up for reference purposes. If you don't approve then don't watch. A lot of people didn't see this live and requested it.

  • Very unfortunate thing to happen to such a talented young man. Could just as easily have happened to any of us amateurs on a Sunday run out. I wish him the best of luck in his recovery and hope to see him playing again soon.

  • uhh how did he deserve it ??? :|

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 23, 2008 8:55 pm

  • When i broke my wrist-which hurts a lot you know-the other team, my team and ALL the spectators clapped me off.

Eduardo's injury was worse but rugby is much better and less wimpish.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 7:54 pm

  • the eduardo injury was a tib/fib fracture it was nothing - check out compartment syndrome and fasciotomy on wikipedia for a really broken lower leg(I had 5 ops to fix mine and after 2 years physio still can't walk without a limp). Czekaj snapped his femur, and that's meant to be stronger and denser than a lump of concrete (the same size as the bone). Dude'll be lucky to play again

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 01, 2008 11:29 am

  • Eduardo had a double compound fracture and if u look at pics on the web and say that it was nothing.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 04, 2008 11:45 pm

  • Chris Czekaj will come back stornger and faster.

The tour should never have happend with a world cup so close. The WRU should compensate the Cardiff Blues and Czekaj. I hope Chris comes back into the Cardiff Blues squad but he may find it difficult with Jamie roberts and Tom James on the wings now.

    GOOD LUCK CHRIS!!!
