Best tries of the Top 14 - Round 3

The French Top 14 is now in full swing after having gotten under way a month back with huge hype surrounding a number of big name players. The controversy associated with players like Sonny Bill Williams proved to be a positive, as clubs such as Toulon were very much in the headlines, attracted huge media presence from all over the world.

The action so far has been entertaining, with not only some great tries, but also a few spectacular fights that have caused a stir but made me interesting viewing.

We're now heading into Round 5 of the tournament, and this weekend sees a few more big clashes on the cards. League leaders Stade Francais will face off against Brive, while second and third play each other, as Perpignan and Montpellier meet on Saturday night. That's just two of the big games in prospect coming up.

This video highlights a few of the better tries from Round 3, giving you a nice broad view of some of the teams and players that compete in one of the more fascinating leagues in world rugby. We'll feature more Top 14 tries in the weeks to come, so stay tuned.

  • Not a good debut of season in top 14, just 3 or 4 good match, all the rest was not very good, cause the new rules i think. I hope the season really debut this week with good match !

  • 10 was the only decent try, the other ones were very skillful but not as entertaining to watch. Just people doing stuff right.

  • Last week montpellier score an incredible try, in the match montpellier toulouse, the scorer was Ouedraogo, he is certainly the first of the season, but the clip was at round 3, can we see the try on rd ? Thanks

  • A part l'essai amorcer par hernandez seul celui de oudraogo ce week end vallent le détour mais la saison n'est pas fini et puis il faut voir ce qu'il se passera pendant la H cup sur tout avec montaubant et montpellier !!!

  • I guess I wasn't the only one who wasn't entertained.

  • nothing interesting in there, maybe Capo Ortega's try but that's all. Not a good debut for the Top 14....

  • anonymous 2eme commentaire tu ne sais pas de quoi tu parles. Les premieres journées du S14 n'etaient pas belles non plus. Il faut le temps de s'adapter aux nouvelles regles...

  • the commentary on try 5 was hilarious, the outburst of emotion when a player breaks a defensive line(especially off 1st phase ball) is great to hear in any language! keep it up rugbydump, love the site.

  • first of all number 3 was awesome but r forward passes just not called in the top 14 with i thikn it was number 8 or 9 that 2 in it lol

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 19, 2008 8:33 pm

  • I liked number 6 and 3

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 19, 2008 8:36 pm

  • I guess I should hedge my earlier enthusiasm..

These weekly "Top 10" lists are very useful for those of us that cannot see the various leagues around the world. I would love to see the weekly wrap-up shows from around the world in a single place.

Yes, the tries were not exactly brilliant. Some of them looked more like "Top 10 defensive mistakes resulting in a try"

Nonetheless, RD is my first stop for updates on the good, bad, and ugly of rugby.

  • Cheyanqui makes a brilliant candidate for president.

No one said RD sucks....just those tries were meh average/nothing extraordinary.

  • A funny thing the commentators said was in the Dave Vainquer try where the commentator yells "it's his first try in the new Stade Francais colors - and what colors they are!"

  • Totally not entertaining. I was not impressed save for the offload on number 2. Is that really the best the french have to offer?? It looked like they were running in slow motion!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 21, 2008 6:24 pm

  • top 14 was much more entertaining last season, when all those foreign players weren't here just to take the money and play "minimum rugby", like tourists visiting south of France ;)

ps: Kelleher is the only one who really play for his jersey, that's why he's highly respected by the toulouse supporters

  • The video does'nt work.. Anyone of the TOP14 Work :(
