Ma'a Nonu big handoff on Richie McCaw

In this mornings Week Six clash in Wellington, the Crusaders saw off a valiant effort by the Hurricanes to record another victory with their continued dominance of this years tournament. 20-13 was the final score, after leading 17-3 at the break.

With 15 mins left in the game though, big 'Canes center Ma'a Nonu got the ball in midfield and stuck All Black captain Richie McCaw on his backside with this powerful handoff.

Great strength despite McCaw being a bit off balance. Still, for the non All Black fan out there, nice to see him knocked down for once.

  • nice! mcCaw is the most overrated player in world rugby

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 4:03 pm

  • I think McCaw is a great player, but its nice to see Nonu making his mark, he really does deserve a place in the All Black side.

    Great video.

    Thanks again!

  • Great stuff but anyways...Nonu has far too much testosteron :) if it would have been allowed he also would have eaten McCaw afterwards...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 5:06 pm

  • Great hand-off!! By the way, mccaw's tackle was awfull..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 6:07 pm

  • richie "tackles" mccaw?? what a little bitch

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 6:17 pm

  • So why did the ref stop things? Holding the ball?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 8:33 pm

  • doesnt look like hes going 4 tackle looks like going 2 strip the ball

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 9:15 pm

  • Bill,

I think it was for Crusaders no. 5 dove in and was trying to wrestle the ball while both on the ground and on the wrong side of the ruck...from the looks of the video, the Hurricanes got the ball, so if it was holding, it wasn't by any of them.

  • Oops - I meant "It was for...'diving' in and trying to..."

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 10:53 pm

  • What a hand off. just shows what nonu can do ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 11:13 pm

  • Still don't like the ELVs

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2008 11:51 pm

  • The ELVs are stupid man... they're just goin to change the game into NFL, with so much stopping and starting and ruin the flow of a Rugby Match...

34 stops in about 70 minutes... that's ridiculous!!!

Seriously... Don't try and fix something that isn't broken!!

  • Ma'a is a BEAST

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 12:56 am

  • mo14k has just said something that is apparently not a phrase many of the ELV deciders have ever heard

"Seriously... Don't try and fix something that isn't broken!!"

The majority of people i talk to dont want them.....in fact, any one i have talked doesnt want them.

becoming legal to pull down a maul....a maul is an art of rugby, it uses the power of one team against another....i seriously doubt the ability of the "leading doctor" who apparently cannot find anything dangerous with pulling down a maul.....it works great when everyone is happily in place and all pointing the right direction, on the field when things are slightly more mishaped its another matter!

    (what a rant!)

    i feel better now!...sort of!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 1:11 am

  • no.7... "a maul is an art of rugby" ... love the use of the word Art, lol... I take it you're about as passionate as I am against the ELV... and probably, about as passionate as 90% of Rugby Fanatics!! lol... o ye and dude... nuthin wrong with ranting at all!!

  • This is the sixth time I have seen Steve Welsh as the referee!!!

Anyway, is he ill? Just a big hands-off, and a penalty?!

By Blogger Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 5:15 am

  • Knocked down for once? Lauaki did it once. He got fended by Palu twice. His defense aint that great, hes too busy putting his hands in the ruck.

  • never see that happen too schalk burger the best flanker in the world

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 11:12 am

  • hmmm to the above comment, nah you just see schalk getting left in the dust by a scottish second row.....or possibly back row, im not entirely sure....type in scotland on the search bit and watch the compilation to see!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 9:21 pm

  • what the hell???
burger the best in the world??

richie mccaw and martyn williams are in a different class to burger

ohh and can someone tell me why nonu doesnt play for the ABs???
hes immense........anyone see him in the barbarians game recently??

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 11:09 pm

  • about the elvs...i dont like hands in the ruck and the offsides line but everything else is good. especialy the 5 meters from scrums and the cant pass back into 22

john smit/ schalk burger/ juan smith/fourie de preez/ habana/percy montgomery i would say are the best for there positions os du randt was too(retired)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 11:55 pm

  • sorry i forgot the legend VICTOR MATFIELD!!!
some might say schalk is dirty but he is a nice guy and is quite smart and wants to play the game
Martyn williams and richie and even jerry collins and george smith are good too but they are old news.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2008 11:58 pm

  • Lote Tuqiri smashed McCaw twice last week! in fact i think someone should make a compilation of people smashing richy mccaw. i'd buy it on dvd.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 30, 2008 4:35 am

  • as good a tackler and as devious at the breakdown that he is, Richie McCaw isn't exactly massive so i really don't think its that crazy that he can get handed off like this or smashed the odd time. He is human after all, some people put up on a ridiculously high pedestal that embarrasses the very talented player.

    Still fair play to Nonu.

Interesting comments on best flanker in the world. Its quite a competitive field

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 30, 2008 6:10 pm

  • its his own fault he went to high on nonu iff he tool his legs it wudn't of happened simple as

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 30, 2008 11:19 pm

  • To annonymous! As for Ritchie getting handed off, he goes high on purpose, because if anyone watches the best flankers, they don't really tackle, they ride the player to the ground, while staying on thier own feet, and rip the ball in one motion...that's how they do it...watch and learn, so occassionally, when going to wrap the ball rather than tackle the legs, richie gets the big don't argue...i'm only upset that the hurricanes! went for the penalty instead of the corner and the try in the last 10 with the score 20-13, going for the draw first, and the win second! with the useless gopperth missing his kicks, and keep the pressure on! that's where the hurricanes really messed up...

By Blogger George, at March 31, 2008 2:14 am

  • yeah, Goppeth had an average game - as with a few of the Hurricanes ... when you play arguably the best regional side in the world you have to step-up.

    Nonu for Defence portfolio

  • G-UNIT...i strongly disagree real flankers tackle instead of allowing there to be a breakaway try especialy on a massive guy

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 31, 2008 11:59 am

  • What the hell's this "Free-kick" they mentioned on the graphics? It was a penalty - you know, the straight ref's arm and kicking for goal kind of show that...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 31, 2008 4:26 pm

  • Give that man a black shirt with 12on the back!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 01, 2008 12:08 am

  • Listen,

McCaw isn't the worlds greatest player and he often goes for the upper body in tackles and every time he gets knocked over/palmed/fended i laugh so hard cuz its FUNNNNNNY!!!
