Jerry Collins gets hit and hurt by Beau Robinson

I think I saw pigs flying out of Sydney Football Stadium on the weekend, as one of the hardest men in the game was knocked to the ground, and stayed there.

It's very rare to see Jerry Collins on the turf. The big All Blacks and Hurricanes flanker is extremely tough and is usually the one dishing out the massive hits.

On this occasion, young Waratahs tear away Beau Robinson got the better of him with a devastating blow to the kidneys. Collins copped it big time, and stayed down for a long time as seen in this clip.

You can't keep a good man down though, and after a breather for a few minutes and a good chug on the water bottle, Big Jerry was right back in the action, showing no signs of ill effect.

  • you cant tackle a guy in the back and claim you 'got him'. thats weak. its got be ball in hand, running at you.

i heard them banging on about this on 'tah talk' like jerry got hammered in the hit-up.

  • i agree

  • Davidson, so you're saying Robinson should have held off and waited for Jerry to turn around, when he's his strongest??

Come on, in the words of Tana, it's not tiddly winks mate.

  • It's not tiddly winks but it's not like Collins saw him coming or was in any way ready to take a hit.

  • agree that the hit isn't as gd as it would have been front on but thtz probably why its bn made a big deal of coz no one has bn able to hit Collins hard front on!

  • To the guy above. This isn't on RD because it's a big hit. Everyone has seen bigger and better.

It's on RD because it left Jerry Collins on the floor in pain.

To leave Collins on the floor in such a fashion = Incident deserves to be on RugbyDump.

  • he didnt see it coming.

    not a big hit.

but it was a hit nevertheless.

  • Better Robinson than me...

I wouldn't want the weight of pissing off Jerry Collins on my mind.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 21, 2008 7:03 pm

  • commentators make a big deal of hit...but to be fair its under the high ball facing away, what can you do? GO JERRY YOU TANK

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 21, 2008 7:44 pm

  • lol...well Jerry showed that when you get knocked down....you get straight back on your feet....

It was just robinson using his rugby instincts...see the opposite team with ball..tackle him

even if it was from behind...I wouldn't want to tackle jerry if he turned around..

    GO JC..my sons initials..hehe

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 21, 2008 8:48 pm

  • Tackle in the back... not classy at all.. had it been face 2 face, the outcome wud have been COMPLETELY different

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 21, 2008 10:07 pm

  • Get over it. The "it was in the back..." "it wasn't front on..." who cares. It's rugby isn't? The situation led to a decent hit that left one of the biggest and hardest players in world rugby on the floor. He got up after and got on with the game like any tough rugby player should. If you can't just accept the fact Beau used a bit of smarts and a good situation to put a good hit on JC, then your fools... You guy's probably think the hit on Brian O'Driscoll in the 2005 Lions tour was completely legal and the greatest hit ever in world rugby!

  • so next time you guys are playing rugby and someone has the ball with their back 2 u, ur gonna wait for him to turn round and hit him?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 21, 2008 11:43 pm

  • Not so tough now hey Collins?

I aint never seen Schalla (or Sebas) get hit like that before, and then roll around on the ground

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 22, 2008 4:43 am

  • dunno how many times i've seen Collins go down thinking 'sh*t, there goes his season' ...then 10 mins later hes busting thru the gain line

By Blogger boomshanka, at February 22, 2008 5:34 am

  • "Davidson, so you're saying Robinson should have held off and waited for Jerry to turn around, when he's his strongest?? "

no, no. course he should have tackled him. im just saying that the way i heard about this through (mostly aussie) media was ben robinson 'smashed jerry collins'.
no, he tackled him in the back under a high ball in the back. different thing.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 22, 2008 2:52 pm

  • Nice hit that Tah player should have shoved his head in the ground like Chabal did to Masoe lol.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 23, 2008 10:52 pm

  • i agree it wasnt really a giant hit on collins, he was facing backwards, but still a smart thing to do, i wouldnt want to tackle collins head on
but asterix, as for never seeing seabass roll about after being tackled.

  • The hit would have been pretty much the same even if he had been facing forward what mattered was that he was standing still if your standing still after youve just caught the ball and you cant sidestep and you get hit like that you will get smashed no matter what way your facing. Also are you saying he should have waited for him to turn around

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 09, 2008 3:24 pm

  • he had the ball.. so you tackle him, no doubt about it, he floored him, and when you jump for a kick like that you can always expect to be tackled

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 13, 2008 2:55 pm

  • im so glad im not australian..having to put up with these morons commentating every weekend. if i wanted to listen to three biased one-eyed ozzies..id head to a bar in sydney.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 27, 2008 5:19 pm

  • Fair tackle, but lets be honest if it had happened to just about any one else they would have had a broken back. Jerry Collins; toughest player of the professional era.
