Friday Funnies - The Cory Jane charge down with the face

Hurricanes fullback Cory Jane took one for the team with this attempted charge down on Kurtley Beale's clearance kick in last weekends Hurricanes vs Waratahs clash.

The clip has been circulating around the web, but we thought we'd save it for our Friday Funnies slot, for those of you who haven't seen it, and for those who want to see it again. I've watched it a few times now and either cringe or giggle every time I see it.

In all seriousness though, I don't know how Jane managed to get up so quickly from taking a propelled rugby ball in the face. I think we've all been hit in the face from a pass at least once in our careers, and believe me it can be quick a shake up.

I think in this case, it was probably adrenalin, embarrassment, or sheer shock, but the former Sevens star (who's sporting a new hair do this season) shrugged it off with only a tiny dribble of blood from the nose and a bemused smile.

A true Falcon if ever there was one, and Phil Kearns loves that stuff.

LMAO doesnt even begin to describe the feeling..

Did you see the way his left leg crumples under him as he falls? He's lucky he warmed up properly, I've seen countless incidents of that exact same thing resulting in torn or strained muscles, or ruptured ligaments!

Still, tough man to get staright back up! What was funny was that he didn't even look like he was expecting it! He didn't hurtle or dive in to block the kick, just jog to put a bit of pressure on!

I charged a kick down with my face last season that we scored from (not that i played any further part in the try) and my team mates pissed themselves. Luckily it was caught on camcorder and we all got to watch it again and again in the club house. I was also fined for taking a dive!

this happend to me once during a drop out...i jumped to blcok the kick-the ball hit me in the face and from the force i turned and landed on the back ogf my head.
i was concussed afterwards and was taken to hospital!

The reason he wasn't expecting it was because it was a massive miss-kick by Kurtley Beale. The ball would've ended up in the middle of the paddock if it weren't for Corey's face.

Kearns and the Aussie commentators are legendary. "Go you good thing, go!"

haha that happened 2 me when i was blocking down a clearance kick...luckily it was caught on tv so when i was watching it again i saw it...must say it looks funnier when u see it happen 2 urself!!

happened to me in a leinster semi final ..cracked my jaw bone and nocked me out

had no worthwhile replacement back row so i had to play on

it hurts and hats off to him for getting back up

That happened to me when I was diving to block a clearing kick in the Tahoe International Rugby Tournament waayyyyy back in time. It felt like a grenade went off in my face, but I got up too. One nostril leaking blood, the other leaking snot. And yes, my teammates laughed their asses off.

Umm, it was a punt - ball doesn't even hit the ground. That's why it ends up in Jane's face, and why he didn't have his hands up.
