Another two massive Jonah hits from the past

Adding to our archive of Jonah Lomu moments, in these two clips the big man is at his best, showing exactly how devastating he was in his prime.

In the first clip it's the Hurricanes vs the Waratahs, or more like Jonah vs whoever tries to take him on. Not clear if it was called back because it was a knock-on or a shoulder charge, but either way, Kiwi commentator Murray Mexted thinks there's 'Nothing wrong with it'.

Listen out for the sound as the tank hits the Waratahs player.

In the next clip Rod Kafer learns a lesson that many players before and after him learnt - don't get in Jonah's way when he's at full tilt.

Proud Saffer here, but man, I miss watching Big Jonah play.

That power and pace was scary, and there was always a fear when your team was facing his - you knew he could turn a match on its head.

The end of his career was sad - Im just happy that people still remember what an awesome player and competitor he was.

nice vid.....he was a great player no doubt about it, but yeh that first tackle was pretty ropey, not sure how it would be seen nowadays with referee's being very hot on wrapping your arms around. The second clip was great but you have to admire the other player, he tried, and in all honesty Lomu did end up stopping....so it was quite successful.

forgot to add, that cos he stopped temporarily he didnt have a huge amount of pace and i guess it allowed the opposition to get on him.

i used the word stopped loosely, i realise that most of his momentum was used in bowling the 12 out the way.

What a man.

Rugby may never see such raw power again.

Such an awesome player/sportsman and a great individual for what he has come through.

Keep your Vainikolo's, Rokocoko's, Howlett's and Tuquiri's. There was nothing better to see than Jonah in full flight.

wow the first hit is absurd...big hit, but no arms..and personally I don't like it much for that....no disrespect to Big Jonah.
If I got a hit lika that, I'd break my collar bone for the 3rd time.again.WOW.

Sorry but the first 'tackle' was definately illegal. There was no arm there, all shoulder. Be lucky not to get carded for that nowadays.

to watch Jonah tackle like he did, or make a trademark run through about 5 defenders is almost like watching a man play rugby with school boys.

What cracks me up is the lack of "enforcement" from the Aussies.

Usually after a dodgy tackle / hit like that, there are 3-4 guys in the offender's face...

Notice how no one got into Jonah's face? Same way I can never recall anyone getting into Brian Lima's face either.

I guess people value their lives...

Poster no2 again - first was an illegal tackle, but it still demonstrates his incredible speed and power.

The Boks never feared another player before or after, but I think that there was at least a little fear for Jonah.

As proof, you will note that he never scored against us, but Wilson and Cullen scored tons while he was there.

As an aside, he was a devil on the field, but a great bloke off it - hearkens back to a time when players didnt tent to being over-paid primadonnas wrecking cars and what-not.

Can you find the clip of Jonah in the 99 World Cup, playing Scotland. His opposite number was normal sized winger and a lot had been made of his confrontation with Mr Lomu. I think the first time Jonah got the ball this guy tackles him and Murrayfield errupted. Some time later Jonah gets the ball in space and I swear scans the opposition for him and then just ran over him. Like a Terminator looking for a target. Great man and a great player. Considering he played the majority of his career with a debilatating ilness frightening to think what he could have done if all was 100% Strangely he is not the most popular man in NZ, threy thought he was a bit big for his boots. Strange now when you see Dan Carter advertising underwear on huge billboards.

It all goes to show what a fool Murray Mexted is. If it had been Schalk Burger, Butch James or Richie McCaw doing the tackle, it would have been Yellow Card all the way.

i dont care what rugby era he played in 18 stone at that speed is gonna bowl anyone out of the way be it the 90's / 00's or in the future. chabal on the wing = not going backwards very often

First hit was illegal and shouldn't be condoned, second was a forward pass to Lomu but still an impressive smash
