Rupeni Caucaunibuka at his best

Some examples of the absolute brilliance of Rupeni Caucau in action for the Blues at his peak in 2003. I'll never forget watching that last try live and being blown away by the sheer skill level and blistering speed.

Most people will hate me for saying this, but I almost wish that he'd been legible to play for the All Blacks, for the simple reason that then this great player would get the exposure he deserves.

  • Nice vid. why is he not playing against the aussies!?

  • Looks like he's jogging the whole time!! A fat ass prop like me dreams about that kind of thing.

  • I think hes one of the most talented runners/finishers ive ever seen. Its a shame that he doesnt seem to be reaching his devastating potential at the moment, and that Fiji isnt wealthy enough to put out full strength sides and display such talent on the international stage.

  • omg....this guy is a freak.....just imagine he in the AB jumper....(JUST GIVE HIM THE BALL!!!)

  • shame he has gotten so fat, 17 stone now, still ridiculously fast though.

  • Just a quick point worth discussing who would win a flat race this man or Habana?? would like to see

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 13, 2007 1:28 am

  • Nowadays, Rupeni is playing for Agen since 3 years (France, releguated in second division last month). But last season, he arrived 4 month late from Fidji... And as season's ending, he weight 130 Kgs and have been controlled positive to marijuana... Next season he will play in the same division than Gregan, Oliver, Merhtens who will play for Toulon's Rugby Club

  • I can't stop watching this over and over. We Americans don't use the word "Brillant" very often!
BUT, I'm can here definitly feel the need to say BRILLANT!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 13, 2007 8:57 pm

  • Habana would win the race today, as rupeni is not in form and is over weight, back in 2003 though, rupeni would burn any winger in the world today.

Though comming from fiji, we have up and comming wingers who are even faster than rupeni and higher skill level, just not on the world stage..... YET. Youll see them thru the rugby sevens.

  • It really is a pity that hes put on so much pace....but its truely amazing how fast he still is for Agen. He could be truely electric(a word I very rarely use btw) if he put his mind to it. Seemingly hes not much of a team player at all, he even admits to getting bored very easily. But I suppose thats part of playing with Agen(Zzzzz). I'd love so see him and Habanna in a 100m race. IMO if cauca was at his best he'd be the fastest man over 100m. Whats he like defensively?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 14, 2007 2:55 pm

  • hes awesome defensively, this autumn when he played a game for the pacfic islanders he didnt miss a single tackle, and saved 2 tries i think

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 27, 2007 6:03 pm

  • hes not playing against the aussies because he was tested positive for weed! he just thinks he can do anything, because he is fijis best player. he has been suspended numerous times for missing tests and all that but the fijians are like: hes insane we need him. i guess he took it too far this time. but i love the guy. he is a props dream being chubby and all and being that quick. its not fair.

  • Reminds me of Diego Maradona -- fat bastard that can weave and cover 3/4 of a the pitch and make 1/2 the opposition miss.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at September 27, 2007 2:03 am

  • Sensational! Can't say da same for his discepline though. Would have been really good at d RWC for Fiji (not that they needed him) many more guyz like him running around hia in da Islands...some are even better!

  • SOMEBODY GET HIM BACK TO NEW ZEALAND!!!!!!!!!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 06, 2007 2:37 am

  • Chavanga, who?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 10, 2007 8:54 pm

  • Why caucau WHY!!!!!!!!! he had all that skill and he wasted it...he could of played 2007 rwc and put zee ngwenya to shame! and that guy was f**king fast!he gave up cause he didnt have a challange but jesus if u kept fit it wud of been amazing. Rupeni caucaunibuca the most devastating player in world rugby to date.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 09, 2008 11:46 pm

  • Lomu runs straight and over u, brushes off tackels from both sides but still can't side step on both feet like most wingers do, infact he got wrong footed by a wallaby lock forward.. Habana's got speed, little bit of a side step, can hardly brush off a tackle.. You put the two together it still doesn't add up to the best winger in world rugby, Rupeni Caucaunibuca, who does his stuffs with a body of a prop forward...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 22, 2008 2:02 am

  • Hey Guyz....2 Fijians on One Team Is Not Fair....I mean Caucau.......Damnnnn....This Guy is Good.......And Joe Rokocoko....Damn.....This guys Good 2....I'm kind of Jealous Of Fijians.....Coz they are So Good......

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 27, 2008 5:00 am

  • Devastaing that this guy missed rugby world cup 2007. Easily the most talented attacking rugby player in the world and on form the greatest winger of all time.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at August 20, 2008 9:14 pm

  • you cant compare cau cau with habana...habana plays off the best forward pack in the world and he just finishse things off. now caucau... hes something else!

By Blogger ezzykelly, at October 21, 2008 10:21 am

  • That is my man.....I believe there i no finest wing and great finisher like Rupeni..ever exist on the wolrd rugby.
Talking about Habbana,....he cannot creat something from the thin red line but Rupeni can do anything to get to the try line.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 08, 2009 6:42 am

  • I am probably the biggest Habana fan out there, but this man Rupeni Caucaunibuka certainly is one bloke with more talent than Habana. He is in my mind the best ever.Just a shame he gave it away to a bad lifestyle. He is still probably the best wing there ever was when he was on form.Would like to still see hom go, even if he is seriously overweight. He probably is not playing anymore. Can anyone update us please?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at February 21, 2010 8:19 am

  • We miss you Rupeni!Rugby is not the same without you.
