George Smith hit hard twice in 30 seconds
Brumbies and Wallabies flanker George Smith is one of the most talented players in the game. He's an absolute master with the ball in hand, and is one of the best ball stealer's on the ground.
Smith is a also a great distributor who's highly talented. He often looks like an extra back line player who is capable of the impossible at times.
He's not a huge guy though, and so when charging at the line is never really going to bash someone out the way, as he found out on the weekend against the Blues.
Young Benson Stanley is the nephew of All Black centre Joe Stanley, and from what we've seen of late, the skill and strength run in the family.
Deceptively strong, Stanley wasn't interested in Smith's charge at him on the weekend. A much smaller man, he still managed to put in this great hit on the Brumbies flanker Smith.
In the same minute, a couple of phases later, Smith got hit hard again, this time by big Eighth man Nick Williams.

That first hit is what I'm talking about!

2nd hit was more of a stop...and still very good obviously.
But the first hit was much more impressive, just goes to show what body positioning is about.
Great video, thanks again

What a tackle by Stanley!
I saw it live, and was amazed. I thought Smith would've plowed over him, with Stanley hanging on to the legs...
Guess George didn't see that one coming :-)

Could quite possibly be the best tackle i've seen on here. Much better than the league one on the clip before. Smith was clearly thinking he was going to smash through him, didn't even come close.

Great hits haha

How was it better than the league hit? Far less impact. Didn't even hurt the guy he tackled.

Poor body position by Smith, but I won't take anything away from Stanley, it takes balls to go in for a tackle like that against a big man running quick, perfect technique by the centre.

that is the best tackle i have ever
seen! way better than a league hit!!!
just think about it 82 killo stanley against 115 kilo george smith at full pace!!

i dont care how badass u are, when u got a guy like that raging towards u, uh-uh i aint getting involved, but number 12 did well, i tip my hat!

Anyone can do that league hit, the guy was juggling the ball and looking the other way. Smith had lined him up from 30 yds, he even tried to step into it to bosh him. Probably would've killed me.

haha went in for the power step low body position......proved to be his undoing eh?

Anyone think the hit on the Brumbies tighthead immediately after the first tackle on Smith is equally good?
By Anonymous, at April 17, 2008 1:12 am
OK, watched it again. It's not as good, but it's still a definate victory for the tackler.

Yeah, 1st hit was LARGE!! Defo takes balls smashin a guy when hes running at full steam and who clearly has only one thing in mind-Knockin you on your A$$!!
But ol' George got his cumupance there alright!
Technically, I think that the technique that Smith used, like Lomu did so much, the Maori sidestep - arms down low and then lifting them up at the point of contact, normally knockin the tackler on his back - I think it would have been effective had Stanley aimed for Smiths midrift, but Stanley hit him so high on his shoulders that Smiths forearms didnt enter the equation. In fact a fraction higher and Stanley would have taken Smiths head off! Borderline is Best!! I would say that Smith also got his timing slightly wrong.
Anyway, i apologise for over-analysing. I jus get a bit excited:)

Average from Smith, verging from arrogant the way he went in, Winston Stanley could be an allblack one day
