Federico Pucciarello tastes Peter Stringers boot

Peter Stringer is officially the shortest international scrumhalf currently playing the game. He's about 4ft2 and probably weighs the same as a 13 year old girl. But despite that, he's a quality player, and has represented Ireland in over 70 tests and has been a stalwart of Munster rugby, notching up over 100 caps.

Amazingly though, in the recent Munster vs Llanelli game, that size 4 boot managed to knock big Argentinian Italian (still not sure how that works to be honest) prop Federico Pucciarello to the floor when this freak accident occurred.

Entering a ruck, I doubt Pucciarello ever thought in his wildest dreams that this would happen.

But, as with the great tackles we see Stringer making time and time again, for a small guy he clearly packs more of a punc... kick than we all thought.

  • That has to be the only time "Stampy" Stringer hasn't deliberately kicked someone. One of the most overated players of all time. Like a little yapping dog, cant stand the guy. He is forever standing on people, loved that Italian giving him a wallop. Not a very PC thing to say but its Christmas. Ok I am going back to the bitter and twisted step now.

  • Totally agree with the above comment. Stringer is the most overrated scrum half ever. He's totally crap, cant beleive he's represented Ireland so many times! Shite!

  • I dislike Stringer too.. and that's aside from his 'skill' lol.

I can't stand bloke, he has that cunt vibe about him.

  • Umm you seem to have got your facts a little muddled! Yes Stringer is small for an international rugby player, but he is 5f7 (A foot and a half more than you give him credit for!) and weights 70 odd kgs.... somewhat more than the average 13 yr old girl :D

  • To the guy above....you havent seen many English 13 year old girls!!!! id say spot on tbh!

I know alot of people dont like stringer but tbh he is one of a dying breed. School boy rugby...you are short and slim you are a scrum half! simple as. i think stringer does amazingly well, he is always in there and makes tackles count, at the end of the day no matter how big a guy is he cant run without his legs! stringer always gets stuck in, and tbh if you are on the wrong side you should expect to have rather a sore raked back, just because a scrum half gives you a couple boots for your troubles to ensure you dont lie on the wrong side again shouldnt be held against him! i dont know how you can say he is overated when he is always there at every break down making himself known!.....normally to a rediculously large player!

  • i had no idea that i wasnt the only one who hates the little irish scrum half! i wouldnt say he was all that overated but thats because i rate him as shite!!! his sling the ball passing winds me up no end! he just seems to be the luckiest tosser alive! Troncon should be knighted for twatting him!

  • he has a quality pass,he`s operating and ordering his forwards excellent,he is well drilled and linked with ROG...man STRINGER IS A LEGEND!!! he scores tries when there`s a gap,tap tackles if unable to tackle properly, has a bullet pass. he is my favourite scrum-half and a great motivation for us smaller guys, yes ther is a place on rugby pitch for us!

  • About the italian argentian thing, its just a guy from argentina that has italian citizenship due to the nationality of his parents/grandparents..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 22, 2007 12:39 am

  • I like Strings. He's got a fantastically quick pass. Perfect for Ireland's backs.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 22, 2007 1:53 am

  • stringer does have a rocket of a pass!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 22, 2007 4:41 am

  • Stringer isn't overrated at all, he earns any talk about him, I don't think many people praise him as the best scrummy in the world, they just note that he is a little guy competitively playing in a big guys sport. He has a high work rate, a scrappy attitude (a must for any good scrum half), and a great pass. You really can't knock him for his passing either; Stringer and O'Gara know each other live they have a civil union. He is a great servant for Munster and Ireland, although I wouldn't mind to see Eoin Reddin a little more.

I would also like to see Stringer in a leprechaun suit also, I would actually pay to see that

  • stringer is a little bag of shite. he can't tackle or break, his box kicking is muck and his pass has gone to the dogs of late. all he does well is bosses his forwards.

as for the few tap tackles he's made in his time, i've seen him get steam rolled over by bigger blokes alot more times than i've seen him make a successful tap tackle. sure it looks good but he should really get his head on tackling technique right before people start praising him too much.

  • "I would also like to see Stringer in a leprechaun suit also, I would actually pay to see that"

    Same here

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 22, 2007 6:46 pm

  • i bet all you guys who said bad things about stringer are huge gregan fans, if you want an over-rated scrummy its him, not stringer, stringer knows what is goign on at all times, and he isnt "bossing around" the forwards, he is comunicating with them, if hes such "shite"(just so everyone knows theres no E on the end) how has he earned so many caps?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 22, 2007 11:47 pm

  • shite's an irish expression. it's a regional variation on shit. he got so many caps because there was fuck all competition. he's lost his place now because there is at last a decent scrum half to replace him.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2007 1:55 pm

  • Stringer's much-heralded pass is ridiculous, most scrum-halves would of been trained not to pass like that at the age of ten.

Troncon had the right idea when it comes to Stringer.

  • What do you mean with "argentine-italian Federico Pucciarello" and you said you don`t know how it works.

Argentina`s population is 95% of European descent, the biggest community is the italian community, so Federico Pucciarello with his 100% Italian name probably is Argentine born and was offered to play for Italy and accepted, there`s loads of Argentines in the Italian rugby team, and there were loads in the Italian football teams that won the world cup on 1934 and 1938. Argentina is the 3rd country in the world with more Italians after Italy and Germany.
I hope this info was helpful

  • Stringer is infact 5'7" and weighs (11st 4 lb) so quite a bit heavier than a 13 year old girl.
