Cedric Heymans magnificent solo try for Toulouse

On a cold friday night in Montferrand, Clermont-Auvergne managed to defeat an unbeaten Toulouse side 21 points to 17. A game of the highest intensity, quality and physicality, saw a mercurial piece of running for what is in my view, a true contender for Try of the Season so far.

The match took place in the French Top 14. Self explanatory, but to explain, this is the top league in France. The Pro D2 is the Second Division, and features the likes of Toulon, Agen etc...

Cedric Heymans, of Toulouse, received the ball inside his own half from a long pass by All Black Byron Kelleher. It looked as though nothing much was on, but French winger Heymans set off on a slalom run that blew the opposition to pieces.

A brilliant effort against a top quality team, this 55 meter classic will no doubt be one of the best tries we'll see this season.

  • Great try by a great player, who deserved better in the RWC. Laporte is really a strange man, putting Damien Traille, which is a great center, playing as a fullback, and leaving Heymans as a winger and Clément Poitrenaud on the bench.

Laporte just got what he deserved...

  • heymans is so good!

  • All this try starts by a tremendous tackle by N7.
Dusautoir has become one of the best flankers in the world and Heymans is already one of the best wingers.

  • I thot it was only me who caught that tackle...LMAO...

Yes, great run by Heyman...been waiting for this video for a minute.

  • What about Paul Tito's fight, during Blues x Dragons? Two red cards. Clap clap clap.

  • Great try. But aside from beating the first man it was more pace than anything else.

    Great pass by Kelleher too.

  • best part was by far the tackle
worst part was by far the french
great pace and use of angles for the try though
ps it always says "solo"-try, no such thing if you think of it besides maybe returning a restart for a try
credit for that try goes to the tackler

  • sorry what do you mean 'credit for that try goes to the tackler'?!

Yeah sure, some does, but the ball got flung back 30 metres after that. And perhaps you didn't see Cedric Heymans beat about 6 players on the way to scoring an incredible try? Heymans gets all the credit for scoring that, although Dussutoir gets a hats off for 'getting the ball rolling'.

  • guess i am a little byast there, i always perfer a great hit to a long run try
so in my eyes its thanks to the tackler, but in your eyes and everyone elses for that matter its the run

    no point in arguing it
opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and everyone thinks everyone elses stink

    great TEAM effort either way

ps- i'm not a big kelleher fan so dont excpect many praises from me to him, hes a scrummy, they pass, not gonna applaude a dog walker for walking a dog, he passed, thats his job

  • The tackle to turn over possesion was a beaut (Wince)poor sod just juggling a stinker from the second row and blam lights out :-) Haymans just has a good few metres to start with, leves the flanker for dead and then it is just some great lines. Great score but not really special.

  • hey awesome vid

    cheers

  • I'm amazed at some of the comments here.

Great tackle to turnover the ball but this had nothing to do with the try.

You can see Heymans shifting in possesion once the ball is flung back to Kelleher, who does well under pressure to get the ball to Cedric. Once Heymans has it he beats 2 players with steps before accelerating through the gap. He then show great strength to fend off Floch and composure to finish under pressure.

Dusatoir- great hit- but nothing to do with this superb "solo" try

  • that was a cracker of a play. Points to Dusautoir for that nice tackle. But even more more for Heymans, that was a breathtaking run from the middle of nowhere. Heymans is truly a first class winger and a pox on Laporte for his screwy ideas on where to play people

  • It's Dusautoir not Dusatoir.

    Plz remember that.

  • Watch that carefully chaps, for that is speed, agility and sheer French flair usually reserved only for annoying the All Blacks during a World Cup cruncher...

  • Something about hearing French commentatary...

At the 0:10 mark, on the hospital pass, and the hit (by Harinodoquy I think).. The commentators say "uffff". They hold the "f" in a way that just makes you feel the guy's lungs losing all their air.

Although I only get every 3rd word from the commentary, c'est mangnifique!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 02, 2008 2:56 am

  • the hit is from Thierry Dusautoir cheyanqui. Harinordoquy plays in Biarritz. ;-)

  • Excellent try. Any chance of showing the Shane Williams/James Hook try for the Ospreys against the Scarlets from last seasons Magners League? Would be very grateful, cheers!

  • Everyone is saying the tackle was amazing but if someone catches the ball above their head and they are running at you it's pretty easy, especially when you're twice their size. The try was incredible though
