Ali Williams plays superhero to break up a fight

All Black and Crusaders player Ali Williams, who is often seen as a villain on and off the field, is being hailed as a hero after breaking up a fight in Christchurch on the weekend.

Williams and a couple of team mates were out on the town after the Hurricanes game when trouble broke out.

"There was this group of 20 to 25 year olds all arguing... Then all of a sudden a brawl just started between about six people and then Ali Williams rushed up and saved the day," says eye witness Max Rooney.

The big lock, no stranger to off-field misbehaviour himself, is shown getting in amongst a group of five or six brawling young men, and stopping the fight.

All the action was captured on camera phone and released on ONE News evening edition.

let me guess, he broke the fightup by threatening to make the kids watch his rendition of a Haka.

haha! awesome! good to see some positive news on the news for a change instead of 'drugs' or 'beatings' or any number of other things professional sports people are up to...not trying to say anything against soccer, (cough..wayne rooney, ronaldo)... haha!

hey brennie its not the same as soccer players. they are in the news because of their marriage and useless shit like that! atleast this is a slightly better reason to see a players name in the news for other then sport

to say the least, I'm not an Ali fan. However, it is great to see him "sort stuff out" positively.

If it was one of the Brumbies or Waratahs, they would have actually been starting the fight.

I reckon it's rather pathetic how some of the guys who would have been involved in the fight seemed to gang up behind Ali against the one cocky guy (probably a scrumhalf) who still wanted to fight, except not against Ali.

Please, he wasn't in there to break it up - he jumped in to join in the fight. If the short dude he was chasing didn't back away it would have been game on.
