2008 Super 14 Final Preview - Waratahs vs Crusaders

We've reached the eve of the final. It's all come down to two teams, 30 players in 80 minutes of high-octane, high-intensity rugby. Nothing will be left in the tank by the end of this cross-Tasman clash between the New South Wales Waratahs from Australia and the Canterbury Crusaders from New Zealand.

There's been highs and lows for both sides throughout the 14 week competition, but they managed to finish on a high last weekend in the Semis. The Waratahs toppled a Sharks side that didn’t turn up, and the Crusaders were back to their best, finishing off a strong Hurricanes side in the second half. Will the wear and tear of last weekend still be present for the two finalists? Will it be a blow out or are the Waratahs here to shut down the most successful side this tournament has ever seen?

With emotions flowing, both sides will be wanting to send off their departing coaches on a high. Expect this one to be physical and intense till the end.

Our short preview looks at some of the action from the two semi-final games and touches on what obstacles both teams had to overcome to deserve their place in the final. Enjoy, and be sure to let us know who you think will be lifting the coveted trophy when all is said and done.

  • Oh dear, another insecure Brit commenting as anonymous up there I see. Sigh get over it fellah.

Crusaders all the way. Sorry Waratah fans, but I just don't see you having the power to overcome Dan and the boys. Then again, we said the same of the french in the world cup in... '99 and '07. :)

  • music and video aside, i predict that Waratahs will win. though i do not support either of the finalist (i support blues) i just like Lottie Tugiri of Waratahs.i have to say the videos alright but could be better maybe show the whole of the finalists struggle to greatness

  • It's funny, as someone close to the RD guys, I don't recall them asking Anonymous ^ to judge the video and tell them how to improve what they do. hmmm... I always just thought it was about creating a bit of hype for a big game. Maybe I'm missing something.. where do we pay to be on here?

    ;)

  • to first anonymous, no they don't play rugby anymore, that's why in this video, it shows clips of two rugby teams.

  • there were more 'canes highlights than crusaders. only a good sign for us waratahs eh

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 31, 2008 12:11 am

  • so waratahs vs hurricanes then??

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 31, 2008 12:14 am

  • NZ are the dominiant force in world rugby, even without the world cup (im aware we didn't win it and i am not a kiwi in denial!). With a majority of the All Blacks shirts heading the way of the crusaders team i find it difficult to see the tah's getting a result, maybe they will prove me wrong, France did! Beale is in-experienced and Dan Carter has a more rounded game, which im sure he will try and use to outplay his opposite number. Tiquiri will be shut down quickly by a strong crus back three so little threat there, however Palau has been in superb form and the crusaders back row will have to be sharp to keep him under wraps, crusaders have the experience and quality throughout, i mean Stephen Brett on the bench???? Crusaders by 15-20, lets hope for a good game.

  • Not your best work, but a 99.99% success rate ain't bad.

Obviously I’m a reds supporter but will cross the fence tn to support my fellow countrymen, either way it’s going to be a great game.

RD keep up the good work.

  • I think waratahs will win. It would be very diffuiclut match but with lote tuqiri wartahs are going to win

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 31, 2008 4:35 am

  • GO THE TAHS, i think it will be a very tough game but i hope NSW will come out on top. I think that with Palu, Lote and Tahu and burgess and the other winger whose name has slipped my mind. I think that its an even game, both teams have their +and-. It should be a great game.....

  • saders 11 - 12 waratahs

  • On the basis of that vid, it looks like the tahs will walk all over the crusaders, but man do they look good running out of that tunnel!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 31, 2008 1:06 pm

  • horrific video.
Take it down for crying out loud. So many great moments for the crusaders when they played the hurricanes in the semi final and 1/2 of the footage were on the hurricanes. Jesus at least show the crusaders' top moments if you're doing a preview of the final for the 2 teams.
If you want to show highlights from that match its fine but a preview this one is terrible

By Anonymous Anonymous, at May 31, 2008 11:54 pm

  • oh dear, that versions of that music was awful. lol

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 01, 2008 6:58 pm

  • Well BD, you picked the halftime score... if only it had stayed like that

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 02, 2008 6:31 am

  • hah chris i put that up at actual half time!.....kinda like an update if anybody was watching that video and wondering what the score was
