Stirling Mortlock hit on Gareth Thomas
After the Welsh captain took Berrick Barnes out late with a hard hit, Aussie skipper Stirling Mortlock clearly had one thing on his mind. And as you can see in this clip, he executed it.
Revenge was the order of the day, and in the 22 min Thomas got hit hard by the bulky Wallaby center. The hit was fractionally late, but perfectly legal, if that makes sense. In other words, he was commited. Nothing wrong.
It could be the last time we see Thomas playing though unfortunately, as he feels that this injury could put him out for 6 weeks, thus ruling him out of the rest of the tournament. And considering that his career will probably come to an end after the World Cup ends, it would leave him stranded on 99 caps and one short of fantastic milestone.
The results of the scan on the damaged rib cartilage aren't available yet, but Thomas is fearing the worst.
Thomas told the Daily Star: "I've had a similar injury before. My gut feeling is that I'm out for six weeks.
"Waiting for confirmation is going to kill me but I think I already know the outcome.
"I'd never retire but, if I'm honest, they should be planning for the next World Cup so they shouldn't pick me."

Fucking shame. Your whole world cup plan is ruined by these morons.
Honestly, i don't see what they have to lose by a few hits on the internet... If anything it helps draw foreigners into checking the game out.
These idiots know nothing about fucking marketing or promotion. Acting like a hit is the end of the world.
And whats worse is the fact the stuff they're removing, they won't even use, you won't see that replied on TV. Why? Because these cunts want to brush the big hits under the rug... They don't want them to be glorified, unless it's for a 0.5 second commercial.
It'd disgusting.
Union is turning into League with all this internet-police-state-esque-bullshit.
And yes, i'm drunk.

Thomas deserved it after his cheap shot on Barnes.
Australia always look after each other as in 99 when Toutai Kefu smashed Trevor Bennan after he king hit J Paul.

comment above...
Erm who looked after Mat Rogers when Josh Lewsey made him look like a little girl?

this is retarded... Mortlock didn't hit thomas harder cause he hit barnes... Morlock hit Thomas as hard as he could cause that's what you do when you play rugby. It's not like if Thomas hadn't hit barnes mortlock would've gone easy. The tackle was completely legal (and frankly there have been much harder hits before). People just like a story where there isn't one.

Watching that, people were having a go at Brian Lima for an attempted tackle against south africa.
Had he not been an idiot, put his head in the way and knocked himself out he would've come out with a hit no higher and not much later than that from Mortlock.
So why does Mortlock get praise and Lima villified as a thug?

Yes, it's nice to add a bit of a story to it, makes it interesting. Of course he would have hit him anyway, but probably not as hard, so I think there is some me truth in the revenge factor.
I dont think you can compare this hit with Brian Limas against SA. Lima literally took off at Pretorious. The impact was far worse and MUCH higher.
Mortlock's was legal and his wasn't. Simple.

if B Lima Didn't knock himself out he would have been able to wrap his arms around the sa player wich would have stoped him from makeing the high tackle

anyway, its a shame if Thomas' rugby career is cut 1 short - hes been a great ambassador for Welsh rugby... some nice tats too

I've gotta agree. You reap what you sow and Thomas got a helluva-beating!
By MuseLuver86, at September 24, 2007 9:50 pm
I'm welsh and Thomas DID have it coming if I'm honest, i do not approve of his hit on Barnes it was much worse and more dangerous than Mortlock's "retaliation"
but tbh i don't think Mortlock went out to hit Thomas, thats just what you do in rugby, with or without a hit on his team mate he would of taken his chance and nailed him

i think mortlock did go out for revenge. he would have opted to mark thomas coming into the line to get his chance. which he took. no story. just agreat captain looking out for the young lad

From the same match the Latham hit on Morgan in the second half was far worse than this or Thomas' hit on Barnes.

seems to me it was neither a particularly tough nor evil hit!however reading what thomas said he really is a classy player..and man
