Classic Tries from the 80's & 90's in the French Top 14
We all know the French are great with ball in hand and have produced some of the best running rugby on show for as long as I can remember. This is what makes the Top 14 such a delight to watch.
There's something special about the running angles and natural flair that almost all of the French backs seem to possess.
It's with this in mind that I'm posting this great video of ten classic Top 14 tries from the Eighties and Nineties.
Look out for current French coach Mark Lievremont scoring a nice try in his heyday, and of course, the great Phillipe Sella scoring an amazing try to finish off a nice compilation that should bring back some great memories for some of the more mature Rugbydump viewers.

Try 3 was a beauty. Awesome vid.

Isn't it amazing to see the physical difference between the players then and now? At first they look like weedy part-timers, but then you realise just how bulked-up today's players are.
Who wants to suggest that this - and more structured, tighter defences - is partly why we see less of this kind of rugby today? Backs nowadays have no difficulty in pounding the big guys (Balshaw apart) while in the clip we see a number of free-flowing moves resulting from poor defensive positioning and some mis-matched tackling.
Just an argument starter....

Vous avez le bonjour de Philippe Sella.
Pas mal l'essai quand même.

Everything about that compilation is fantastic. It makes one yearn for another mighty French side with players of the quality of Benazzi and Sella.
Love the French commentary too. There's something about listening to commentary in another language that's really entertaining - I think it's the way you just have to listen to the tone of their voice and not the words. I like watching Welsh rugby on S4C for exactly the same reason (plus the rugby obviously).

Awesome Vid! I love the Sella try, who else, loves it when you sell a dummy and pull it off in a game...magic...and number 3 was great too! I agree with rich, that pass between 3 defenders, and that inside step to beat 2 defenders to score, just looks great!

It's great to see Racing Club again. Franck Mesnel was a great player. Classic Sella and Blanco too!

They were all great, but I think that for me, try 4 was my favorite - I love the creativity and quick thinking of the little flick through the legs.
Though after watching it a couple more times, I wonder how much of it was the referee obstructing the tackler...probably not too much.

listen to the commentary on try #2: the scrumhalf (who makes the first pass on the vid) is ... Bernard Laporte! (I don't like him, but it's fun to see both French coach and ex-coach on the same vid)

On #4 the defender runs into the back of the ref
he tries to make it seem like the ref obstructed him, although by the time he hits the ref the player is in the in goal area and out of reach of the player scoring, good try though haha

#4) The through the legs pass -- Carlos Spencer's inspiration perhaps?
#2) Did the commentator REALLY say "ooh la la"?

@ cheyanki
Yes, he said "Oh la la ... it's even greater than what I was thinking..."
