Midweek Madness - The Denis Leamy head tap
Denis Leamy, despite seeming pretty serious and all about the hard work on the field, must surely been one of those players who behind the scenes, is actually somewhat of a character and has quite a sense of humour. I don’t know much about him personally, so those who know more will be able to confirm whether that’s true or not.
One thing that can be confirmed though is the absurdity of what’s shown in this short funny clip from last weekend’s test match between Australia & Ireland.
Leamy took it upon himself to find a whole new way of distracting the opposition scrumhalf, which, on this occasion, meant tapping Luke Burgess on the head when he was about to pass the ball out from the bottom of the ruck.
We saw Leamy trying something new with his bunny hopping madness at the back of the scrum in the past, but this is new tactic, a funny tactic, and one that I bet kids around the world will be haunting referees with after seeing this clip.

Dennis Leamy was also saying "I've got 9, I've got 9". Very funny thing to do.

Trying his best to intimidate the debutant, who I thought did very well over the course of the game.

Luke Burgess is the man, he played his first super 14 season this year at the age of 19 and absolutely showed Josh Holmes (the resident scrum half) what to do. Did any one else notice Denis Leamy trying to grab his hair in the second round of head taping.
CLASSIC

Funny as hell ^^ and yet if I were the ref. I'd go and see the guy to say that this is obviously unecessary...
Had it been Pelous what would have been the reaction ;P ? A kick to the face ?
(just joking as I am a froggie but the latin way of reacting to those little extras is not always the best)

the ref was thinking of blowing him for it you can see him even turn around to the touch judge looking for help!

Leamy is a lunatic, when I was 12 I went to a schools game in Musgrave Park and he bust a guys nose open straight in front of the ref with one dig, he was also the goal kicker.

Dennis Leamy is a very talented player who has learned to controll a firey temper that risked his career at one stage. Playing for the Irish U-20's in the world cup in around 2001, Leamy was making his debut for his country. The big name player in the tournament was a your French whiz-kid by the name of Michelak. Ireland were playing France in their first match and Leamy wanting to make a name for himself and impress punched Michelak in the 1st minute breaking Michelaks nose and earning himself a red card.
Leamy did not represent an Irish representitive side again until him Munster form demanded that he be brought into the Irish senior set up.
Maybe he has just matured more since then, but his crazy antics are certainly a way for him to express his excentricities on the pitch. And also he is mental on a night out...a serious professional but and great fun guy.
