Jonny Sexton suspended for kick on Lefeimi Mafi
Munster got the better of their fierce rivals Leinster at Thomond Park on Saturday with a 22-5 win in the Magners League. Leinster took a double blow as Jonny Sexton has been suspended for two matches following an incident with Lefeimi Mafi.
Sexton was cited for kicking out at Mafi during the closing stages of the match. Mafi received a cut above his eye and was sin-binned for tangling with Sexton after the incident.
Munster weren’t planning on taking the incident further, but citing Commissioner Eddie Walsh felt that a disciplinary hearing was necessary.
The suspension means that Sexton is now ruled out of Leinster's Heineken Cup quarter-final clash with Harlequins on Sunday. The fly-half will also miss the Magners League game against Connacht on 18 April.
Leinster are expected to appeal the suspension.

disappointing from sexton though
By Anonymous, at April 09, 2009 7:46 pm

coward act from leinster player

From a munsterman, ban seems a little harsh

Why in Rugby over seas do I always see a 3rd or 4th man in during a scrap? I never understand that. Why don't the rest of the team let each other sort them selves out instead of having an unfair fight i remember a CDN Vs ENG game where the same sort of thing happened where 2 brits were on a Canadian and then another Canadian came in and made it 2 1v1 fights.

Barry Murphy should have been cited for a separate incident where his shoulder made a very hefty contact with Sexton's face completely off the ball. Sexton went off temporarily and needed stitches.
Different rules apply for Munster players of course.

because zap, who sits by and watchs a mate get into a 1 on 2 fight. probably not anyone who plays rugby, lets put it at that.

...unless your club teammate happens to be on opposing an opposing national team...in which case, he may well be the one delivering the punches to the back of your head.

Mafi's tackle on D'arcy was borderline illegal.
He let go as he threw him down, which is against the tackling law. Sexton took offence and kicked Mafi with a trailing boot.
Sexton is young and allowed a few mistakes before he matures.
Now let's all move along.

Response to anonymous who claims barry murphy shouldered sexton.- If u look closely u will see sexton collided with rocky elsom and went off needing stitches. Whitaker should have bee binned for stamping mafi just after sexton kicked him. Just walked right on him and fell to make it look unintentional.

Nothing compared to some of the stamping incidents by Quinlan in this game

"and after the match over a few 'heinos' hed tell the guys he kicked his ass.
sexton u lil prick mafi would eat you"
Bd that is genius fair play!!
theres no arguement here as far as i see it!! Even if the ref had deemed the tackle illegal (which he didnt) sexton had no right to take the law into his own hands!!
Fucking dipshit... u dont mess with south sea islanders or munstermen.. not 2 mind som, eone that fits both catagories!!
Strong munster team for sunday!! pity leinster wont make it through for a rematch!!

thank you anon :) ^^^

Sexton is useless he is the best Leinster have to offer...
Mafi is going for the Gene Simmons look with that hair :)
and to the guy that said Baz should have been cited, you know where to go. If sexton cant take a hit he would be better off not playing... it would do leinster a favour. there is much better players available, just look at the guy who played U21 at fullback and then brought into outhalf, a great young player.
Hope we meet those D4 pricks in the semi final, another easy day at the office

Ohh the munster fans are getting a bit too confident. Dont be fools and take the ospreys for granted, they WONT go down easy fellas.
Im not welsh but im a big fan of the ospreys and once they gel as a team they'll take some beating.
By MuchLove, at April 11, 2009 1:53 am
go back to your fields you munster langers
By Anonymous, at April 11, 2009 12:36 pm
Oh Munster fans....why can't you lot be sound ?
Awful stuff by Sexton but it was Darcy who was dumped by Mafi not Sexton.
Did you even watch the clip Patron ? Go back to reading your Ross O'Carroll-Kelly books.
Sexton's class he just needs a bit more game time.
By Thjrd Centre, at April 11, 2009 2:10 pm
As is all too common this is degenerating into moronic munster-leinster comments...
Re the clip...I thought the ban was a bit harsh, but within bounds (as a leinster man). You can't kick, end off, and if you have a bit of a go as Sexton did, you take your punishment.
The Mafi tackle was borderline, but so be it.
By Eoghan, at April 11, 2009 6:07 pm
im a kiwi and have never heard of leinster, leicester are tuilagis team right? Very confusing.

Sexton is far from class... Ian Humphries of Ulster is much better then him.
And Anonymous probably called oisín from D4..have some balls and put a name to your thread

Mafi needs to learn how to tackle, about time someone pointed this out to him. Trevor Brennan is harder than any Munster player there has ever been.

This board needs to be moderated to remove bullshit like the above post. I mean seriously what is the point.
Presuming that anonymous pretends to be a Leinster supporter makes him appear all the more moronic. There's a corner of Kiley's missing its idiot. Speaking as a Leinster Man.
By Eoghan, at April 12, 2009 3:13 pm
Anonymous.... as i said earlier grow some balls and put some kinda name on yourself you are an imbarisment to Leinster and it'll all go down to the wire in three weeks time.
to pick a name go to Name/ Url and enter a bloody name...
By Patron, at April 12, 2009 8:48 pm
Yes dead right. This Munster Leinster thing is pathetic. We're not all inbred culchies and you're not all caricatures from a Ross O'Carroll novel.

By Eoghan, at April 13, 2009 12:58 am

By Anonymous, at April 13, 2009 1:37 am

Mafi is an illegal tackler, he does it over and over again.
