Wales with comfortable win over Argentina in Cardiff

Wales put on a much improved all round display as they beat Argentina 33-16 at the Millennium Stadium earlier today.

Star winger Shane Williams found form again as he scored two tries while flyhalf Stephen Jones looked commanding from early on, scoring a try and kicking everything asked of him.

Wales had the majority of possession but went into the break at only 13-3 ahead. Argentina's Martin Rodrigeuz could have made the gap even narrower, but he hit the post with a penalty.

Wales scored their second try 30 seconds after the restart when Williams scored between the posts following a Luke Charteris charge down. Jones did the rest with the conversion.

Rodriguez kicked two well taken penalties to keep the visitors in contention at 20-9, but Leigh Halfpenny's booming halfway line penalty took the lead further ahead once again.

Jonathan Davies was charged down by Rodriguez who gathered to score, and then convert, the try. A few minutes later Williams pounced on a loose ball and went over for his second.

Halfpenny kicked another penalty late in the game, stretching the final score to 33-16.

I actually cant wait to the Aus-scot stuff is up.....hence why i comment on here.....i couldnt contain it any longer....

Just check the rankings for the last.....oh I don't know - since they began and you see the dominance of the Southern Hemisphere.

Try the results of all the June internationals on for size.

Give us the arguments about injuries and a long season and all that crap. Truth is every game your reputation is on the line and every one wants to take you down if you are the best.

The AB's have been dealing with this for years and the Saffa's are getting a harsh lesson on the bullseye that comes along with being considered "the worlds best team".

When a NH side is able to assume this mantle come back and see us.

Getting involved in NH vs SH arguments here is extremely lame, but seeing as we're in lame mode - the whole argument is based on South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia from the SH, and then the top NH sides. Do you think any SH person ever claimed that Fiji, Samoa, Uruguay etc are the best? No.

Therefore, stop kidding yourselves. 2-1 to SH this weekend. Case closed. But whatever makes you feel better.

for the sh v nh debate i would just like to add that fiji has more rugby players in scotland. u cant be selective about which nations are clssified as a sh nation because they r or they r not. if that is the case the nh could say oh do not count italy, scotland (teams that lose) only count the teams that win.
anyway its a stupid bloody argument.
shane williams ftw, Giteau sucked ass yesterday.
If Australia had just gone 4 drop goals they would hav won easily because the game woud ha opened up because scotland would have to score trys, lack of respect for the scot defence i think.

I haven't even seen the match yet but agree that Shane Williams is a complete show pony. He always has been with those ridiculous, pre-planned dives.

It's one thing when players celebrate from the adrenalin rush but he manages to piss off even the most neutral of fans. His dive in the World Cup match against Fiji ruined a brilliant try for me.

Equally, I'd expect you to realise that SA vs Italy is somewhat of a mismatch. Therefore, using your arbitary made up 'rules' I score the weekend's rugby results as NH 1 SH 1.

No, Zac is actually right. The whole SH vs NH debate NEVER at any point in time included those countries. You're kidding yourself if you think it did. The whole debate comes from the Tri Nations teams domination, and countries like Ireland, Eng, Wales, France then saying that they can beat them. It really is just that.

Once again, did any SH ever claim that the pacific island teams were better than NH? I dont think so..

And believe me, I don't give a sh*t that Aus lost to Scotland. I think it's great actually, so the whole debate is pointless. SA, NZ and Aus hate each other on the field! lol Loads of respect though of course.

You guys are basically saying that if eg: Eng played Fiji, USA played Uruguay, France played Samoa, and Wales played Tonga.. and won, that you would call that a fair victory for the NH? Wales was the logical winner of the match. It has a team with players that have been playing together for a long time.

Argentina played with 5 amateur players, Rodriguez, Figuerola, Leonardi, Comuzzi & Urdapilleta...

And keeping on with the discusion about NH & SH I think italy should be considered as a SH team cause half of the team is from argentina!!!

While I don't really judge anything from 'friendly' autumn (or summer) tours the selective choice of which teams count to beat is a bit skewed if SH supporters don't want to include Fiji and Samoa.

in the world rankings (prior to this tour) Fiji were ahead of Scotland and Samoa were ahead of Italy. These countries also have more people playing rugby (at all levels) than us (we, in scotland, have a pathetic number of players since our population insist on dedicating our athletes and resources to our crap football teams).

Great win Wales. To the SH people, petty as always, how can you say that the only Southern hemisphere teams that matter are the tri-nations teams, when you have just agreed to allow Argentina into your competition? The gaps closing boys, get used to it. And to the people who are knocking Shane Williams for show boating, that was his 50th test try, give the man a break! Hes scored more tries than Doug Howlett, Jonah Lomu, Christian Cullen, Rory Underwood, Serge Blanco, Jason Robinson and even John Kirwan, most of them behind a truly mediocre Welsh pack. Give the man a break, hel be considered a legend in not too many years.

after a run like that at, even the fittest player will be catching their breath, but jones was winded because he landed on the ball oddly. anyone whose taken that kind of try knows that slamming into ball the like that right on the ground does feel wierd, and its got to be much worse when youre as fast and heavy as a professional player like jones

i think roncero was lucky it wasnt a picky ref, ive seen weak headbutts equalling a red card, and roncero did put his head on williams head, also he put his thumb near williams eye so maybe lucky for that, although no intent to gouge i suppose.

Isn't Australia is bigger than Ireland/N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales put together? New Zealand is still bigger than Wales, and has a nice few island nerby to pick out some good players from!

Shane Williams is a showboat?

The man scores tries to bring his team back from stale rugby. Not to mention he usually creates the tries out of nothing - not just a finisher (like most wings are), but he makes things happen. I think there's plenty reason to feel good when you cross the tryline after that. He doesn't have a 10 minute tea party or run up to the camera to make some hand gesture - what I mean is, he doesn't take any time away from the game. Could he do without the needless diving into the try or salute or whatever? Yeah. But it's hardly a reason to discredit the guy.

"His poor caliber would go for the corner" - well, he didn't. And in the process, he evaded at least 3 tacklers...that's pretty high quality rugby if you ask me.

Regarding Shane williams, it wasnt a salute was it? it looked more like he was doing the 'looking out to sea' sort of pose thing, almost as if to say 'is there any defence?'

maybe i interpereted that wrong but i dunno, i think he can play i just thought that made him look like a bit of a cock, a simple dive and a shout out to the crowd or something would have sufficed........

Shane Williams is really, really creepy, especially when you realize he's in his mid 30s. He doesn't have the size or strength to tackle, so he's far from being a complete player. I bet Zac Efron could beat him up.
