Wales with comfortable win over Argentina in Cardiff

Wales put on a much improved all round display as they beat Argentina 33-16 at the Millennium Stadium earlier today.

Star winger Shane Williams found form again as he scored two tries while flyhalf Stephen Jones looked commanding from early on, scoring a try and kicking everything asked of him.

Wales had the majority of possession but went into the break at only 13-3 ahead. Argentina's Martin Rodrigeuz could have made the gap even narrower, but he hit the post with a penalty.

Wales scored their second try 30 seconds after the restart when Williams scored between the posts following a Luke Charteris charge down. Jones did the rest with the conversion.

Rodriguez kicked two well taken penalties to keep the visitors in contention at 20-9, but Leigh Halfpenny's booming halfway line penalty took the lead further ahead once again.

Jonathan Davies was charged down by Rodriguez who gathered to score, and then convert, the try. A few minutes later Williams pounced on a loose ball and went over for his second.

Halfpenny kicked another penalty late in the game, stretching the final score to 33-16.

wasnt it luke charteris that charged the kick down?

  • I see some sore losers. Wales were the better team and played some brilliant stuff.
Lobbe was the only stand out player for the pumas.

  • Some of shane williams passes were sublime, hes got such a good rugby brain..... Stephen jones is a damn good player too.
Peel should start against the wallabies.... and we should win by 8 points ;]

  • "Simply becuase he is not."

    And Giteau and McCheat are?

Nice to see Australia can't even beat Scotland!

  • I actually cant wait to the Aus-scot stuff is up.....hence why i comment on here.....i couldnt contain it any longer....

only because there was some aus fan who was mouthing off and saying 'Ha ha ireland cant even beat the 3N wooden spoon team'

So yeh i really cannot wait! i thought todays game with scotland was fantastic! AWESOME WINS BY THE NH again this weekend!

  • 4-2 to the Northern Hemisphere this week.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 2:06 am

  • Yeppp NH sure dunno how to play rugby compared to the SH....

    By Anonymous (:, at November 22, 2009 2:36 am

  • Whats Shane Williams' problem? You'd think a player of his poor caliber this year would just go for the corner, I mean... he hasn't exactly scored many tries this year. What a show-pony-old-midget.

By Anonymous Zac Efron, at November 22, 2009 2:43 am

  • Don't count wins against minnow teams like Fiji, Samoa and a rebuilding Argentina please. It's actually 2-1 to the SH this weekend. We only count the Tri-nations teams v 6 nations teams. Unless you actually are satisfied with beating small island teams.. Pathetic.

By Anonymous Zac Efron, at November 22, 2009 2:45 am

  • Haha keep raging behind your computer screen zac, that'll make you awesome.
    Bitter cos your team lost?
    Have a lovely day
    ;D

By Anonymous VinceCable, at November 22, 2009 3:19 am

  • lol, Zac Efron. You say that, then get excited about beating naions like Italy and Scotland, where 99% of the country couldn't give a shit about rugby.

I didn't realise hemispheres were selective. Anymore sub-rules?

You can't pick teams with a G in their name, unless its the third Monday of the month?

The whole of the UK is "small islands".

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 3:25 am

  • Small Islands with big populations. Do you know Fiji's population? What ever keep celebrating when you beat a Fijian or Samoan team with 2nd stringers. Pretty Pathetic.

Then again, I guess Fiji only cares about the World Cup (Wales...)

    SH > NH

By Anonymous Zac Efron, at November 22, 2009 5:03 am

  • Just check the rankings for the last.....oh I don't know - since they began and you see the dominance of the Southern Hemisphere.

Try the results of all the June internationals on for size.

Give us the arguments about injuries and a long season and all that crap. Truth is every game your reputation is on the line and every one wants to take you down if you are the best.

The AB's have been dealing with this for years and the Saffa's are getting a harsh lesson on the bullseye that comes along with being considered "the worlds best team".

When a NH side is able to assume this mantle come back and see us.

By Anonymous Banksie, at November 22, 2009 5:58 am

  • I dislike Shane Williams' attitude. There's no reason to showboat... I think he suffers from small-man syndrome. The big blond viking giving him a hug after his first try had me rolling on the floor laughing my ass off (well, not really lol but it was amusing!).

By Anonymous Sheek, at November 22, 2009 9:23 am

  • zach efron... do you know the population of wales? its not that much

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 11:55 am

  • I agree with Sheek and Zac Efron about Shane Williams. I mean if you get over for the try, put the bloody ball down. I hate the way he always just walks it in, waits until the last second, and salutes or something, or does some stupid dive. Get the thing down and if you want to celebrate afterwards so be it.

By Anonymous Kearney for tests, at November 22, 2009 12:04 pm

  • Oh jee.. is it as big as Samoa's 181 thousand people?

If you celebrate beating a 2nd string Samoan or Fijian team as a win over the SH (Which it appears you are) then you are a loser. No other way to describe it.

By Anonymous Zac Efron, at November 22, 2009 12:07 pm

  • whos the number 8 for argentina?? played like a beast all day was everywhere!!

    By Anonymous creggs08, at November 22, 2009 12:45 pm

  • Getting involved in NH vs SH arguments here is extremely lame, but seeing as we're in lame mode - the whole argument is based on South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia from the SH, and then the top NH sides. Do you think any SH person ever claimed that Fiji, Samoa, Uruguay etc are the best? No.

Therefore, stop kidding yourselves. 2-1 to SH this weekend. Case closed. But whatever makes you feel better.

Well done to Scotland and Wales though. Good wins.

By Anonymous FrankyH, at November 22, 2009 12:55 pm

  • for the sh v nh debate i would just like to add that fiji has more rugby players in scotland. u cant be selective about which nations are clssified as a sh nation because they r or they r not. if that is the case the nh could say oh do not count italy, scotland (teams that lose) only count the teams that win.
anyway its a stupid bloody argument.
shane williams ftw, Giteau sucked ass yesterday.
If Australia had just gone 4 drop goals they would hav won easily because the game woud ha opened up because scotland would have to score trys, lack of respect for the scot defence i think.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 3:01 pm

  • I haven't even seen the match yet but agree that Shane Williams is a complete show pony. He always has been with those ridiculous, pre-planned dives.

It's one thing when players celebrate from the adrenalin rush but he manages to piss off even the most neutral of fans. His dive in the World Cup match against Fiji ruined a brilliant try for me.

By Anonymous Scotsdale, at November 22, 2009 5:20 pm

  • I'd do a LOT more showboating if I'd just scored my 50th international try

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 6:07 pm

  • ok ok, im sorry, but the guy whose name is zac effron on here is such a pleb!

He is saying that these games dont count, only the 3N teams v the 6N teams.....

So basically you are saying that if the NH had lost to some of the smaller teams, fiji, samoa etc that you wouldnt include them in your 'the SH beat NH blah blah' bullshit? like hell you wouldnt!

SO yeh it still stands! at 4-2 for this weekend!

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 22, 2009 6:23 pm

  • Nice well done No.7 glad you said it.. Zac efron is a pleb.

And shane williams show boating, get a grip nobody let rip at smokin joe for doing stupid dives.. and alfie used to celebrate.. here's the thing, you just scored for your country are you telling me you wouldn't celebrate. bullshit.

as for wales more worried about the fact that shane had to come up with the goods again.. nobody else looked like scoring. def room for improvement.

    By Anonymous Abs7, at November 22, 2009 6:39 pm

  • Exactly what Abs7 said, the whinging is unbelievable! The man just scored his 50th international try. People assume because he is small and frankly lethal he is cocky, bullshit. Williams is actually pretty humble.

no-one criticises CauCau or Joe for for celebrating. Get a grip.

By Anonymous David, at November 22, 2009 6:52 pm

  • Zac Efron, I'll give you the fact that Wales, Ireland and France's wins this weekend can't be taken as signs of NH dominance.
Equally, I'd expect you to realise that SA vs Italy is somewhat of a mismatch. Therefore, using your arbitary made up 'rules' I score the weekend's rugby results as NH 1 SH 1.

By Anonymous Will Topps, at November 22, 2009 6:56 pm

  • No, Zac is actually right. The whole SH vs NH debate NEVER at any point in time included those countries. You're kidding yourself if you think it did. The whole debate comes from the Tri Nations teams domination, and countries like Ireland, Eng, Wales, France then saying that they can beat them. It really is just that.

Once again, did any SH ever claim that the pacific island teams were better than NH? I dont think so..

And believe me, I don't give a sh*t that Aus lost to Scotland. I think it's great actually, so the whole debate is pointless. SA, NZ and Aus hate each other on the field! lol Loads of respect though of course.

You guys are basically saying that if eg: Eng played Fiji, USA played Uruguay, France played Samoa, and Wales played Tonga.. and won, that you would call that a fair victory for the NH? Thats like saying SA beating Romania, NZ beating Canada, and Aus beating Portugal would be 3-0 to SH. Bit of an exaggeration perhaps but you get my point. We certainly wouldn't claim that.

You're clutching at straws guys, and I think deep down you know it. ;)

About Shane, the thing is, he looks arrogant as all hell when he does that stuff. Yes, some other players do too, but its him we're talking about here.

I risk being called a pleb, but whatever. Banter, debate etc, no need to resort to that type of mudslinging.

By Anonymous FrankyH, at November 22, 2009 7:01 pm

  • Ok frankyh you put in a decent argument.....although i think you pretty much summed up that NH SH debate = BULLSHIT ANYWAY!

Im sorry but, argentina, samoa, tonga, fiji = SH

Wales, italy, eng, etc = NH

so im sorry but this weekend the SH teams won 2 matches and the NH teams won 4!

or as Will put it, it is NH 1 SH1

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 22, 2009 7:09 pm

  • Yeah, but why gloat about THAT? That's all I'm saying. It does seem a bit straw-clutching-ish. Chances are that people from Eng will be getting on the bandwagon with it too, whereas I doubt any Aussies will be celebrating NZ & SA wins this weekend

By Anonymous FrankyH, at November 22, 2009 7:12 pm

  • Oh im not gloating, i was rooting for scotland this weekend.....!

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 22, 2009 7:18 pm

  • Fair enough, and it's awesome for Scotland that they won. :)

I flipped over near halftime (I think) and it was like, 3-3 though :-s

Re. the other argument on this post.. people get REALLY wound up by random dudes' comments. Like, if a guy from Scotland (example) made a dickish comment, then everybody else below would say (and think!) that everyone from Scotland are dicks. lol

Sadly, this is the way of the internet, and sitting behind a pc some people say things that they'd never say to your face.

I actually thought the debate/discussion/argument on here wasn't too bad tbh. Surprising that some got so offended..

By Anonymous FrankyH, at November 22, 2009 7:53 pm

  • 50 tries is pretty damn impressive

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 7:59 pm

  • Its sad, every time shane gets the ball all wales gets wet. really wet. Even the commentators start shouting out his name, there wives should be ashamed.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 8:29 pm

  • No, wins against Italy do count. They're in the 6 nations and are a professional team made up with players that get payed to play. Fiji and Samoa on the other hand (especially their 2nd stringers) are made up of amateurs.

    So whatever...

By Anonymous oth, at November 22, 2009 10:04 pm

  • Ah right.....Tuilagi...an amateur not payed to play? am i right?

Argentina.....care to name their players that arent payed to play?

ah right and with fiji, Rupeni Caucau i believe plays/played for them.....ah yes, he was a terrible amateur, im sure never made anything from playing!

    Stop talking out your ass!

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 22, 2009 10:24 pm

  • Wales was the logical winner of the match. It has a team with players that have been playing together for a long time.

Argentina played with 5 amateur players, Rodriguez, Figuerola, Leonardi, Comuzzi & Urdapilleta...

And keeping on with the discusion about NH & SH I think italy should be considered as a SH team cause half of the team is from argentina!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 22, 2009 10:49 pm

  • While I don't really judge anything from 'friendly' autumn (or summer) tours the selective choice of which teams count to beat is a bit skewed if SH supporters don't want to include Fiji and Samoa.

in the world rankings (prior to this tour) Fiji were ahead of Scotland and Samoa were ahead of Italy. These countries also have more people playing rugby (at all levels) than us (we, in scotland, have a pathetic number of players since our population insist on dedicating our athletes and resources to our crap football teams).

otherwise you've gotta make it top 3 vs top 3 not SH 3 vs NH 6

By Anonymous Ewan, at November 22, 2009 11:27 pm

  • Judging by his second try he's definitely still got the gas :D

By Anonymous David, at November 22, 2009 11:46 pm

  • Yeah, admittedly, good tries. I see what some meant about the show-boating though. At least get the ball down first if you're going to do that! :-s

No, he isn't. He landed on the ball and it winded him.

    He winded himself on impact.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 23, 2009 8:07 am

  • ok i noticed i was called retarded for naming some professional players for 'amatuer teams' like fiji, samoa etc (its been deleted)

whilst im aware that there were some amateur players they are still 'the best of the country' just like SA has the best of their country......you have to start somewhere and so to use that as an excuse is stupid!

why are they in professional games if they arent up to scratch, and if they arent up to scratch then they have no business playing!

So yeh, to the cock that called me retarded = F*ck you!

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 23, 2009 2:52 pm

  • "No, he clearly landed on the ball. As all the replays show.

Last time I checked a ball wasn't a rock. You can't wind yourself by landing on a soft ball. Wow.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 23, 2009 2:56 pm

  • lol, are you trying to be a pain in the ass? he does wind himself, there was an aussie guy in WC 2003 who went off after scoring because he landed on the ball!

By Anonymous Phil, at November 23, 2009 5:26 pm

  • Great win Wales. To the SH people, petty as always, how can you say that the only Southern hemisphere teams that matter are the tri-nations teams, when you have just agreed to allow Argentina into your competition? The gaps closing boys, get used to it. And to the people who are knocking Shane Williams for show boating, that was his 50th test try, give the man a break! Hes scored more tries than Doug Howlett, Jonah Lomu, Christian Cullen, Rory Underwood, Serge Blanco, Jason Robinson and even John Kirwan, most of them behind a truly mediocre Welsh pack. Give the man a break, hel be considered a legend in not too many years.

By Anonymous The Schpoople Master, at November 23, 2009 5:32 pm

  • after a run like that at, even the fittest player will be catching their breath, but jones was winded because he landed on the ball oddly. anyone whose taken that kind of try knows that slamming into ball the like that right on the ground does feel wierd, and its got to be much worse when youre as fast and heavy as a professional player like jones

By Anonymous miguel, at November 23, 2009 5:44 pm

  • Gotta say something about roncero? was it, the prop....and also williams

i think roncero was lucky it wasnt a picky ref, ive seen weak headbutts equalling a red card, and roncero did put his head on williams head, also he put his thumb near williams eye so maybe lucky for that, although no intent to gouge i suppose.

williams pointing at his eye after was a bit nit picky, trying to get roncero in trouble....

Isn't Australia is bigger than Ireland/N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales put together? New Zealand is still bigger than Wales, and has a nice few island nerby to pick out some good players from!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 24, 2009 4:49 pm

  • roncero went for williams ear first not his eyes.....you fool!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 24, 2009 7:14 pm

  • Shane Williams is a showboat?

The man scores tries to bring his team back from stale rugby. Not to mention he usually creates the tries out of nothing - not just a finisher (like most wings are), but he makes things happen. I think there's plenty reason to feel good when you cross the tryline after that. He doesn't have a 10 minute tea party or run up to the camera to make some hand gesture - what I mean is, he doesn't take any time away from the game. Could he do without the needless diving into the try or salute or whatever? Yeah. But it's hardly a reason to discredit the guy.

"His poor caliber would go for the corner" - well, he didn't. And in the process, he evaded at least 3 tacklers...that's pretty high quality rugby if you ask me.

    By Anonymous I'm a Biased Winger, at November 24, 2009 8:16 pm

  • If you say so Zac, if you say so!

Regarding Shane williams, it wasnt a salute was it? it looked more like he was doing the 'looking out to sea' sort of pose thing, almost as if to say 'is there any defence?'

maybe i interpereted that wrong but i dunno, i think he can play i just thought that made him look like a bit of a cock, a simple dive and a shout out to the crowd or something would have sufficed........

maybe i got the wrong idea...

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 24, 2009 11:17 pm

By Anonymous Lalla, at November 25, 2009 12:12 am

  • Hey No.7 I've seen him do it before in another game it's a salute. I think it may be an inside joke with Martyn Williams.

  • Shane Williams is really, really creepy, especially when you realize he's in his mid 30s. He doesn't have the size or strength to tackle, so he's far from being a complete player. I bet Zac Efron could beat him up.
