The All Blacks crush Wales at farewell to Carisbrook
Dan Carter was back to his menacing best as the All Blacks proved too strong for a travelling Wales side in the last ever Test match at the House of Pain, Carisbrook. New Zealand crushed the visitors 42-9, in what was a fitting farewell to the great venue.
Carter scored two of the All Blacks’ five tries as they ran the tired looking Welsh side ragged. His form brought back memories of 2005, when against the British & Irish Lions he showed his world class ability.
The Welsh kept up their 57 year losing streak against the number one ranked side in the world as they weren’t able to capitalise on what looked to be a decent start to the game. In the end they left with only the long range penalty from Leigh Halfpenny, and an early dropgoal and penalty from flyhalf Stephen Jones.
Keven Mealamu, Corey Jane and Richard Kahui all crossed for the home side as they took their chances and punished a lacklustre Wales in the last twenty minutes of the game.
"We faced a very good team that capitalised on every mistake we made. We matched them in the set-pieces, but we lost out around the rest of the park," said Ryan Jones.
All Black coach Graeme Henry expects a backlash next weekend.
"I think they've got a lot of pride, a lot of pride as a rugby nation. They will be hurting and when the Welsh dragon is hurt it usually breathes a bit of fire. I'd say they'd be right up for it."
Wales coach Warren Gatland, returning to his homeland, said his side will learn from it.
"I'd love to play the All Blacks every week because that is the only way you get better. The last thing we would want to do is get on a plane tomorrow and go home. We have another chance next week and we have some positives and some negatives to work on.
"The pace, the tempo and the intensity is not something that we face every week," he added.

Carter - brilliant. The Kahui try was also great. Glided through the defense with ease. Wales started well though and looked up for it initially.

Pathetic Welsh performance, really disappointed. Fair doos to Dan Carter though, the man is right back on a form which hasn't materialised in him for what seems like few seasons.

was conrad smith coming in from the side there on the jane try?
By Anonymous, at June 20, 2010 4:57 pm
good slot kick by halfpenny.

Sad days for the welsh...Mind you, against the world number 1's its not surprising they wouldnt come out on top...but expected a better performance!
By Anonymous, at June 20, 2010 5:16 pm
I thought Smith was offside the the Jane try.
Wouldn't have made a difference though, NZ changed tactics at half time and their counter attacking was breathtaking.
Not looking forward to next week.

Typical Wales NZ match, Wales bring it for the first 20-30 mins, dont capitalize on their chances, and by the last 20 mins. the all blacks run rampant while wales cant keep there breath. See it nearly every year.
By YankeeRugger76, at June 20, 2010 6:45 pm
Jane try, I thought the ball was out of the ruck so fair game Smith. Well done, quickly reacted!

I know Yankee :(
God i hope we can improve for the next test, we're better than this. Also, sick of just putting in decent could of, should of, performances and not getting the win.
So next week we better sort it out!
(but yeah we were crap)
By David, at June 20, 2010 7:13 pm
i'm just hoping the all blacks peak at the right time

Last NZ try: there's no tackling in the northern hemisphere, is there? (someone had to say it)

it was not a pathetic welsh performance. we have to understand that wales is a small country with a small player pool that has been overstretched these last 2 seasons.
the welsh boys play aroung 10 more games than these kiwis in a season. that is approximately 2 more months of being beaten up whereas these kiwis and SH players get to build themselves up for these big games through cardio, weights and other fitness shit. if this small player pool continues to beat themselves up through a 10 month season then they will never be able to compete at the higher stage. the french and english can cope with the season because they have around 10 times as many players to choose from. Keeping their player pool fresh. oh well its not like they can refuse to play as its their job.

^^ hahaha excuses excuses! Face the facts, as much as Mr Gatland likes to keep shooting his mouth off about playing with the big boys of world rugby this is yet another performance that shows just how far wales are from being a truly competitive side. Comprehensively beaten by a second (almost third!) string Bok side at home and then utterly mauled by the ABs (who are themselves only just getting into the swing of things!). Maybe Warren will keep his trap shut next time. As for NZ, it's going to be an absolute ripper of a 3N again. SA and NZ are just on a different planet right now, and Carter vs Steyn will be delicious! My bet, NZ benefiting from the home advantage (like the Bokke did last year) and scraping it 2-1.
By Bokke_2007, at June 20, 2010 10:13 pm
And watching Kahui's try again, how many fat lazy tired Welshmen did he run past there?! Anyone want to make a tackle? Nope. No wonder they got raped. Pathetic.
By Bokke_2007, at June 20, 2010 10:24 pm
Ahhhh Bokke_2007
Confirming everyone's opinions about South African rugby fans
By Gareth, at June 20, 2010 11:08 pm
^ I'd say the comment about the tackling is a retort to every single narrow minded comment about the super 14 defense for the last few months. Dish it out, and you'll get it back.
By Laz, at June 20, 2010 11:12 pm
Exactly! Every week we get to hear from precious NH fans about how their game is so much more tight and intense and controlled because of the high standards of tackling. Well, here it is people. Richard Kahui, by no means the best attacking runner in the S14, takes a pass well in front of all the defenders, does nothing really that special, yet ghosts through half the Welsh team and dots down without anyone laying a finger on him. Impressive NH tackling right there!
By Bokke_2007, at June 21, 2010 12:20 am
Bokke_2007... I agree, NZ and SA are looking very sharp, this will be an awesome tri-nations!Looking forward to the Carter/Steyn face off
And Gatland is an idiot... Every year he shoots his mouth off and talks trash before the big games.. So pointless

Magners league finished 29th May 2010 - Super 14 League finished...wait for it...29th May 2010!
Fixtures - Magners League plus Heineken cup = 18 (if getting through group stages) Super 14 - 13 games plus any cup competitions.
Wales has well over 200 hundred rugby clubs (sad but I counted on Wiki) New Zealand around the same (http://www.nzclubrugby.co.nz/).
Please stop with the excuses. You were beaten by a better side, simple as that!

1:43 - Gotta love Jamie Roberts' innocent 'hands up' plea while not being anywhere near 10m back for the quick tap penalty, and while doing his utmost to obstruct Cowan with his right leg. Then NZ score anyway through Mealamu LOL.
Eat it boyo! hahaha
By choclit, at June 21, 2010 2:28 pm
Last 20mins was embarassing defence. Tom Prydie cost us a load of points with his defence/lack of.
I know hes young, but does getting smashed againt the all blacks benefit him?
Jamie Roberts was the invisible man AGAIN.
Well done new zealand.

The Magners and the S14 may have finished the same time, however the magners goes on for 5 months before the S14 kicks off.
I also think Tom Prydie got found out defensively, Jamie Roberts needs to add another dimension to his game.. I also think the kicking strategy is rubbish..
Overall bottom line is wales must learn from this intensity and put it into practise more often..
All Blacks fans who are bitching, good luck in the RWC 2011.. I'm sure you will walk it.
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2010 6:25 pm
magners league = 18 games + play offs
heineken cup = 6 games minimum
and you also have the elv cup or something. So there is an imbalance when it comes to number of games.
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2010 7:32 pm
Dan Carter is playing on a different planet right now. kicking on point and havent seen him attack the line like he is since 2005. 3nations is gonna be insane
By PNW Rugger, at June 21, 2010 9:00 pm
What was the point of us going to New Zealand with a load of players rested/injured just to get our asses handed to us?

I always feel for the Japanese, they have sizeable rugby playing population, they have a long rugby history, but they're always the punching bag in almost any international game outside Asia.
By Anonymous, at June 22, 2010 10:42 am
Geez, Wales jest seem to be unable to deliver against the big three... They just fell short all the time.
Pace and offloading is the key.
By Joost, at June 23, 2010 5:05 am
Unfortunately we don't play an offloading game these days. We have improved in many ways since 2005 but we are too predictable in attack and our support runners are almost non-existent these days. We won't beat top sides with a stagnant attack.
