Biarritz blitz Ulster with three great second half tries
Biarritz are looking good in Pool Four of the Heineken Cup after they convincingly beat Ulster 35-15 at the Parc des Sports Aguilera on the weekend. The bonus point win is their second of the campaign, placing them in good stead going into the next round.
Dimitri Yachvili scored 15 points with the boot as he kicked three penalties and three conversions, as well as set up one of the tries for last season’s finalists.
Zee Ngwenya scored twice, while Manuel Carizza and Sylvain Marconnet picked up a try apiece. For Ulster, Andrew Trimble scored in the 66th minute and Stephen Ferris picked up a consolation try on the stroke of fulltime.
Ngwenya’s first try came after he plucked a Ruan Pienaar high ball out of the air and made his way rapidly down field. The ball was recycled and a few phases laster, he found himself crossing in the left hand corner. Marconnet finished nicely when Yachvilli flicked the ball inside beautifully as the hosts scored their third try.
The final try from Biarritz was finished by Ngwenya but started way back in their half as they produced a fantastic passage of classic French running rugby, albeit with a few foreigners involved. Accurate passing, great running lines, and after sweeping left then right again, it ended with a hooker hitting the line hard then passing to the flying wing.
The three best tries of the game are featured in the video below. Enjoy.

Liked all the scores but strangely the 2nd one with the big chaps powering to the line was the best. The Biarritz forward with the scrum cap who still managed to go forward with 3 Ulster players trying to down him was awesome power....
Good Heineken cup throwing up some cracking stuff - cheers RD

I've watched this game on sunday. it was one of the best of the WE, especially during the 2nd half time.
Ulster did very well in the 1st half but didn't take the points. Biarritz completly change the game in the 2nd, opening the game with weapons such like ngwenya.
The most impressive was their pack. Guys like Harinordoquy, Thion, Marconnet or Lund are just talismans

That sub-hooker is impressive on the 3rd try... Not the first time we've seen him this season (remember him running 60 meters to get the winger ?)
Great speed and technique...
A feter ca au patxa ^^

Ngwenya is really showing improvments to his game nower days, used to need a lot of space with the ball. Gets himself into good positions.

Ulster have been so disappointing - since they won the competition years ago, they haven't even gotten out of their gropu. At least a decade of solid underperformance, when they should really be on a par with Leinster and Munster. What the hell is the problem with them? It will take a miracle for them even to get out of their group now.

Yes, success breeds envy. Especially continued success against the odds. Nevermind, your team may succeed at something some day. Better chance than you ever succeeding, troll... ;)

Ruan Pienaar - you have literally thrown your career away by moving to Ireland.

Yes, like Dougie Howlett did, or Rocky Elsom...oh no, wait...
But I agree that Ulster may have been a bad move - they always under-achieve. They never seem to add up even to the sum of their parts, as they have some excellent players. Even Tommy Bowe had to leave to get the recognition he deserves.

Excellent to see this Biarritz side on form. Yachvilli has still got the magic, one of my favourite players of the last decade. After the two matches against Aironi they should be close to home and dry. Just goes to show the first away game makes. Win it and you have an outstanding chance of getting through if your home form wins you those games.

that backhand pass from Yachvili is out of this world... almost invisible to the naked eye

"Always good to see irish team losing."
I'd imagine so considering the French sides losses to the Irish ones in the past few weeks.

Ahhh Ulster are really dissapointing these days. They´ve got a handle of class players like Ferris, Trimble, Henry...that´s about it actually. I´ve never rated Pienaar or Paddy Wallace, and humphreys is always hot and cold. Just don´t have the depth. I´d love to see Ferris play for a better team. I think he is one of the best flankers out there at the moment, did you see that ankle tap?

Ruan Pienaar...what an odd player. Looks like a sad little kid, and you'd like him to do well (since he always seems to look worried), but he's just never had the right stuff. I mean, he's surely talented, and he can definitely put points on the board...but he also seems to under-perform or make bad decisions during important matches. If I were an Ulster fan, I would've been upset when I found out they planned on signing him.
Balshaw is great for BO; shame he'll probably not wear an England jersey again with Johnson running things.
Anyways, here's to hoping Biarritz make it out of their pool undefeated!

Oh yeah, meant to say again what a great player Harinordiquay (sp?) is. He was imperious in the second half (the only half I watched).

I too missed the reverse pass by Yachvili, I was like, where the f*** did the ball go? next thing, try. Amazing deceptive skill

What's the deal with Pienaar, was he not getting first team game time in SA, needed a change of scene or is it about the $$$? It seems wierd he was boks 1st first choice and now he's at Ulster.
Am I right in thinking that Lund is an England qualified player and has played for England. If so why the hell is he not getting a sniff at the squad. I've got nothing against Worseley, but I don't see the point of having him in the squad when there is probably only 2 years max left in his interational career if guys like Lund are around.

2a, Balshaw is a great player, but with Foden and Armitage in the mix (and about 8-10 years younger) is there space for him?
By Nick, at October 20, 2010 1:34 pm
with the likes of ngwenya, chris wyles and todd clever the US have got some quality players
By Anonymous, at October 20, 2010 2:17 pm
Ulster have suffered from having a few false dawns in the period since the European victory in 1999 - but they're getting the squad and tactics just about right in 2010
I'm sure their time will come but I worry about losing the likes of BJ Botha from the front row, he's been inspirational.
With a nucleus of excellent south african (es)internationals and holding onto local talent like Trimble, Ferris and Henry, the future looks bright.
We need a world class 10 then, humphreys junior and o'connor dont' seem to be up to it

ulster are getting a strong squad ready for the future. it is true that they have underperformed but you have to look at the resources they have to play with. With only a handful of schools producing talent, its hard to develop such a strong team. With big performances this year such as over bath (home and away), they are now looking a formidable team

just to back up my previous comment.. we just beat biarritz 9-6!! C'mon Ulster!!
