England's lackluster victory over the Barbarians
A second-string England side limped to an unconvincing victory over the makeshift Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.
Nick Easter's try, and a penalty and conversion from Toby Flood gave England a 10-0 lead at the break after a poor first half.
Seilala Mapusua got the Barbarians back in the game with an interception try.
But Mathew Tait, who had a good game, scored a converted try to ensure England made it across the finishing line, with Gareth Thomas claiming a late Baa-Baas consolation.
Both sides struggled to hold onto the ball and the Barbarians were further undermined by their total inability to win their own line-outs. The only highlights for them being two stand out performers on the day, Mapusua and Pedrie Wannenburg.
Barbarians matches are traditionally open encounters but the first half of Sunday's game was a very scrappy affair. The same could be said for the game against the Irish, which is surely not a great advertisement for Barbarians rugby.
For England, they now have the daunting task of taking on the All Blacks in their own backyard. Hampered by injuries, they'll need to bring in available first choice players and up the intensity if they hope to compete against New Zealand, who also have a point to prove after their disastrous World Cup campaign.

the english will get quite demolished by the ab's with that sort of play

ref was rubbish in that match england need to improve tho any chance of havin tait's hit on wannenburg up was a cracker.
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 12:59 pm
Thomas' try was brilliant, the only actual highlight . . . .apart from the ref falling over :D
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 1:01 pm
Tait's tackle on Wannenburg had no replay unfortunately, so not really worth sticking up as a 20 sec clip. Saved for TSRB11 :)

RD. I hope you can get another angle on the refs fall in this one. Add it to the growing number of videos of embarassing ref scenarios!

so tait or steyn the new up and coming star?
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 1:48 pm
awful match one of the worst i've ever seen besides england being awful the Baa-Baas were worse. Regan put in a great performance for england.
To be honest is there any point of having the Barbarians any more? two bad tests and talks of them out drinking before games. Long gone are the great Baa-Baas performances

Tait and Kennedy were the only saving graces!

The barbarians who beat south africa were amazing how can you say its been a long time since they were good?
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 4:04 pm
Larkham getting involved in a nothing incident again, easter just laughs at him. What a pr*ck on field. Great player mind.
Dire from eng but only1 or 2 from that pack are even close to 1st choice
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 5:58 pm
i watched the whole match :( waste of time tbh
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 7:00 pm
2 things..
firstly, flyingoutside, what are you on about, did you miss the fascinating barbarians game less than 7 months ago where they beat south africa?! i think what you have failed to notice is, every major international team in world rugby is preparing for a tour of some sort, so the barbarians hardly had the cream of the crop to choose from, all just club players or internationally retired, admittedly this game was a bit stale, however
secondly
people cant really complain about englands performance, seeing as 2 of the best teams in england were playing in some sort of final or something the day before werent they?..

Flyingoutside
i think its a little harsh to judge the barbarians tradition on two matches, remember the barbarians vs boks game recently? a cracker!
and the greatest try of all time was scored by the baa baas.
but i take your point its been a little below par.

I watched this barbarians team play against Belguim 10 days ago. It was a very entertaining game which everyone enjoyed.
The barbarians did go out drinking two days before though but heh the brbarians are just a bit of fun SO dont expct them to be great.

Fair play to the English Second row for telling Harrison to shut the fu*k up !
By Anonymous, at June 03, 2008 11:10 pm
Get it your self Anonymous.
Poor game. Still enjoyable to watch because of certain players out there, and was fun to see Mapasua & that big Bull playing well, but in general, there was just a lack of ooomph from both teams, regardless who they were on paper.
Baa Baa's had Larkham, one of the best attacking/running fly halfs we've ever seen, but he couldn't get things going. Forwards weren't great I guess. How Harrison gets away with what he does lord only knows...

Not trying to be offensive or anything but does anyone else find Will Greenwood an incredibly annoying commentator?
By Anonymous, at June 04, 2008 12:37 am
no, greenwood's gas.
By Anonymous, at June 04, 2008 12:51 pm
I find Will very annoying but he won the world cup, so he can say anything he likes...Unfortunately

I'm sorry RD, but even the title of the video sums it up. WTF is it doing on here? It is diluting the quality usually posted on here and needs to be removed sharpish like.
Even if i was an english supporter I would be ashamed to appreciate that.
Do the honours FFS

I wonder what happened to the show england were promising us? They even took kicks at goal: for shame! How is it that a team like Ireland managed to put 40 points on a similar BaBas outfit I wonder?
By Anonymous, at June 05, 2008 2:06 am
Ireland managed to put 40 points on because, discounting the events of the last yer, Ireland are a better team than the English. An Irish team is the champion of Europe and another won the Magners league.

One thing that i really think that the barbarians should invest in is some new uni forms, if you look closely at their socks you will see that every one has different types
@BD i rekon that steyn has much more to offer than tait even though tait is a utility back steyn has much more skill and abality

'One thing that i really think that the barbarians should invest in is some new uni forms, if you look closely at their socks you will see that every one has different types'
Chazza, I hope that was some kind of joke mate. If not, I think you need to do some reading up on the Barbarians traditions. lol
By Anonymous, at June 27, 2008 10:01 pm
this is y i get annoyed when coaches continually ignore tait. He is a class player up there with the likes of will Greenwood and he has pace to burn. Put him in the england team!
By Swampy, at April 13, 2009 10:33 am
oh yeah and "shaft" whoever u are the baa baas are supposed to have different socks because they where their clubs socks. Just a bit of rugby knowledge for u
By Swampy, at April 13, 2009 10:50 am
No shit 'swampy'. That's what I said.
By Shaft, at April 13, 2009 11:04 am
woops sorry
By Swampy, at April 21, 2009 2:03 pm
chazza mate.
barbarians tradition is to always wear your club socks.
