Fabian Juries brilliant individual try for the Cheetahs

Sevens specialist Fabian Juries was a late inclusion for the Cheetahs when they faced the Bulls at a packed Loftus Versfeld in the Currie Cup this past weekend. The Bulls won the dramatic match 30-27, but it was Juries who caught the eye.

Juries, who is third on the IRB Sevens list of all time top try scorers, has made the transition to the fifteen man game nicely. Despite being a small guy, he possesses incredible speed off the mark, balanced stepping, and an eye for the gap.

Anyone who's followed Sevens over the years will know that Juries is one of the best players of all time, so to see him make the change to fifteens rugby, and do well, is great.

He was Man of the Match when playing fullback against the Sharks last Saturday, and only made the team for the Bulls match thanks to a late injury to Jongi Nokwe.

Selected on the wing, Juries once again took the Man of the Match honours as he scored two tries of pure quality, the first of which had him beating no less than nine players, including a few notable Springboks, on his way to the try line.

Awesome try! I've always hoped he'd do well in fifteens.. good to see him running circles around the bigger guys. :)

Well that wasn't bad :) Super feet and I agree about the Jason Robinson comment. If those feet look fast from up here, imagine how it must have seemed to potential tacklers on the pitch.

But, it is pretty easy with a drift defence going one way to step across them going against the grain. The step off the right to eat Morne Steyn is the killer. Super speed, super feet, great try.

Brilliant Try! To come in from the wing and score near the posts is an excellent effort. Great lateral movement and footwork. The defence wasn't poor, this guy was just too good.

This was near the end of the game so defence were tired not disinterested. What incredible feet. There was nobody else on the field who looked like they could do what he did. Very good try.

Incredible stepping. Perfect way to beat a flat drift defense.

And that was against possibly the best club team in the world.

The counting was actually justified, so many were the ppl beaten - and the suprise in his voice 2nd time around - classic.

Best individual try, with Hamenz finishing the French one vs N Z a close second this year so far I'd say. (A bit premature and hemispherist (!) with the 'goodbye til 2010' bit in the plays of the year clip from OZ previously...)

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant...

Had me laughing that was so amazing. I have never seen anything like that from Robinson or Williams though I do rate them both.

Reminded me of Barry Sanders of the NFL Detroit Lions, the greatest open field runner in any sport of all time.

Either way, great to see a little guy making an impact in the game that is becoming dominated by the behemoths.

Folks although i do agree that that was a bit of FANTASTIC footwork do not make the jump to the TEST arena. Juries is excellent at stepping but until he proves himself in the SUPER14/15 then lets just enjoy his skills in the CC.

But that being said, he sho made fools of them big blue bulls...haha..

He's 30.. spent most of his career on the Sevens circuit, but is outstanding in space. He is tiny though, which is why he's never really found his feet (so to speak) in fifteens rugby. Smaller than shane williams, brent russell.. etc. Tough guy though. I hope he gets more opportunities.

Yeah they do, amazing production line in South Africa. Now that they've caught up with the rest after their international rugby exile, they are starting to get back to where they were in the old days (the real old days), when they were probably even better than the All Blacks.
They've got probably hundreds of professional players playing outside South Africa who don't get a look in, and still they produce the best national team.

All the same though im in awe... he totally owned the Bulls players, and he's a tiny lil cat too when you see the Bulls behind him, they're either monsters or he's 5 foot...

You people should have a look at Jarryd haynes' try against the Dragons a few weeks ago.. Ok it is rugby league, but Hayne did the exact same thing as here, exept that he is 1m88 and 100 kg beast.

If only he would make a switch to union, he would be the most devastating player ever. Jarryd Hayne, guys. Look at the other code for a bit !!
