Rugby World Cup 2011 Tickets on sale tomorrow
The first round of ticket sales for the upcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand will be available from tomorrow, January 1st 2010. Fans worldwide will initially only be able to book tickets in the form of official travel packages, which in a nutshell means accommodation, travel, and match tickets.
The two agencies in New Zealand that have the franchise are House of Travel and Seasonz Travel, and they're expecting an overwhelming response.
"There's absolute demand from all parts of the world right now and we expect (the packages) to sell out very quickly," says Brent Thomas of House of Travel.
He says the packages will sell out rapidly, as they've already had enquiries from places like Argentina, South Africa, Europe and the US.
On February 1st corporate packages will go on sale, with venue and team packs becoming available in April. Individual tickets and the ballot for the semi-finals and final will be available later in the year.

2011 World Cup should have gone to Japan. New Zealand hosting it is a step backwards for rugby, something we can't afford. New Zealand will choke though, bet your house on it. ..

The locality of the tournament will be spectacular, as well as the rugby culture. Would just be divine. But the stadiums are a big concern, second rate stadiums in the 3rd biggest Sporting event in the world. Concerning......

Nice to hear americans and canadians are getting on the world cup train now! Well in larger numbers anyway! But I thought having the world cup in a rugby crazy nation was dumb, Japan then back to England was the perfect line up but oh well!

That's the point. Rugby is a declining sport in New Zealand. Nobody cares about the Super 14 over there anymore. And test matches are less and less watched.
The reason NZ was gifted the world cup was because the IRB are worried about the growth in popularity rugby league is having in NZ. They don't want Union in NZ to end up like Union in Aus.
Hosting in Japan for 2011 would have been the right move. If the IRB are scared of losing rugby nations like NZ maybe they should think of sorting the game itself out.

I reckon when 2011 arrives, the IRB will sort the game out. Expect to see the Free Kick sanctions bought back, whether you like it or not. You'll have to adapt to them, I'd expect to see the game 'freed up' a little bit more, by referees producing more 'red zone' yellow cards, to stop the whistle occurring. Even at scrums, 'Free Kick' sanctions will be bought back. Exception would be repeated infringements.
Not to mention, hopefully we will see Paddy O'Brien lose his job. Which one would probably presume he will lose in probably 2012 when the new laws will kick in.
Be rest assured, new laws will come. Coaches have suggested it, media have too.
NZ will be the last major tournament these laws are held in.

I can't wait. Auckland and the north shore will be awesome as we have so many different teams in the region. We already have 25000 south Africans living on the north shore aswell as the ones coming to visit so I'm guna make big bucks by renting out my house, only 5 or 10 minutes from north harbour stadium.

hey happy new yr RD!!! there was couple of nice hits in the dragons game yest.. one involving the 2 little wingers lee williams and richard fussel.. which happened at around 30 mins of the first half.. and sean lamont smashing shuan connor on the crash!!

New Zealand: small island in the South Pacific, thousands of miles away from civilization (Croc Dundee main land doesn't count) is hosting the World Cup... well, that's just silly. It's a small country, with a small economy and virtually non-existent infrastructure and quite frankly I think this a joke. Why not give it to Ireland? The C-Park would make for a great final destination. New Zealand, congrats, you've damaged rugby's backbone. Selfish is what selfish does.

There's a big difference in terms of scope to mingle with attractive ladies in New Zealand than say in France... or most other countries in the world for that matter. Hell, the cameramen never even take a moment during tEEst matches to highlight one or two as they've become exasperated by the diminishing returns. What does one do after watching a game for 80 mins. A few social drinks is only going to exacerbate the problem by adding urgency to one's "needs", which will inevitably, for reasons of pride and standards, remain unfulfilled. Still, I guess there are quite a few sheep...

Irl-Brad, what you said about New Zealand is essentially true about Ireland as well. Not that it's miles from civilisation or anything, but there just are not enough big stadiums in Ireland for the World Cup. Croke park isn't viable for a final cos the pitch is too big and it ruins the game and atmosphere cos the crowd are miles away from the action. So a 50,000 final in Landsdowne? That's not a lot for a World Cup final. And for the pool stages, Croke Park and Landsdowne are the only two that are big enough for hosting big games. You'd need 4 I'd say, along with several medium-sized. It'd really only work if it was done in conjunction with Britain.
And I don't think it's all NZ's fault. They were obviously going to canvass for it no matter what and the committee were the ones stupid enough to pick it instead of Japan.

Kearney for tests, have you looked at the biggest 5 stadiums in ireland? they're all more than 43000 capacity, and that doesn't even include the new lansdowne. as for the atmosphere in croker, you're exaggerating completly, it doesnt matter how close as long as the rugby's spectacular.
even still, NZ will be incredible.

The IRB are doing everything they can to help NZ to the World Cup.
Poor Japan, the game is destined to be a niche sport with these muppets in charge. Games are more and more kicking based, the disciplinary panels are more and more erratic, crowds are dwindling and takings are down.
