Dominic Ryan big blindside hit on Chris Cusiter
Glasgow beat a second string Leinster side 30-6 in the Magners League yesterday, keeping them in the top four with play-off ambitions staying alive as a result. We had a request for this brutal blindside hit from Dominic Ryan on Chris Cusiter, so here it is.
Leinster hadn’t won at Firhill since May 2006, but weren’t too bothered with changing that as they fielded an under strength side that did what they could to spoil things for the hosts, who were in search of a bonus point win. It resulted in no less than four Leinster players being yellow carded.
Glasgow scored three tries though through Bernardo Stortoni and Rob Dewey, the latter having scored twice. Dan Parks kicked three conversions and three penalties.
Shortly before halftime Glasgow scrumhalf Cusiter got smashed by loose forward Dominic Ryan, who came in for the blindside hit as the home side created a nice flowing move.
Cusiter stayed down for some time, while Ryan heading to the sin-bin for not rolling away after making the tackle. "That was the least enjoyable game that I have ever played," said Cusiter after the match.
Leinster are guaranteed a top four finish already, and have their Heineken Cup semi-final coming up soon, hence the second string side. It was still a good win for Glasgow though, whose 5000 strong fans celebrated at the final whistle.

A fine hit there. I had to laugh during the match when James Jones sin-binned the Leinster tighthead Mike Ross because the Glasgow loosehead went to ground in a scrum. Really top-class ref. Bring back Joel Jutge I say.

Impressive and fair tackle. I can't see, who took the yellow card ?

seems a bit of a grudge match...or the underdog team (leinster) just went out for a grim moment...

Good Hit...to bad he didn't blindside the ref too
By Freaky Naughty o_O, at April 25, 2010 11:06 pm
As the article above says, the hit was fine, he got yellow carded for not rolling away. A few minutes after this Leinster got their 2nd yellow card for attempting to remove Cusiter's head with a flying arm. That one would be worth putting up as well.
The 3rd yellow was again for not rolling away when Glasgow were a couple of metres from scoring a try. Again, Cusiter was on the receiving end.
It's a shame he was playing shite before these incidents or us Glasgow fans might be having a larger moan about it :)

Great tackle, just not your typical front hit but strong nevertheless.
I like Chris Cusiter more than Mike Blair, but still think Al Strokosch should captain the Scots in June's tests.

a lesson in anti rugby from a synical as ever leinster. Im a big fan of Irish rugby, but can't stand watching leinster ruin games the way they do. Michael Cheika is a twat.

Relax. It was a pretty inexperienced team. I have to say, Leinster are one the most entertaining sides in the Magners League and the HC.

agreed above. leinster play a fantastic style of rugby. in comparison to munster who, well.... i wont start....

Yellow for not rolling away?
Had Leinster already been warned for that or something?
By mitchell, at April 26, 2010 5:19 am
haha yellow carded for not rolling away
By Anonymous, at April 26, 2010 5:23 am
The guy who made the hit is only 19 right.
By Anonymous, at April 26, 2010 6:47 am
all the leinster twam were 19 - 23 years old apart from Jackman and they still pushed glasgow around for most of the first half.

Leinster were repeatedly infringing and the yellow card was justified.
Leinster are usually a very entertaining side to watch but on Friday night they were very cynical.
Worryingly, as a Glasgow supporter, we were playing against their second string team with 14 men for most of the match (at times 13) and we still couldn't get the bonus point try.
But hey we've got a guaranteed play off place (and Edinburgh don't) which shows massive improvements have been made at the Warriors (and Scottish rugby) when you consider we used to be just the whiping boys of the ML - and aside from Connaught probably have the smallest budget.
We have some great players resigning (Barclay and Beattie) and still a young squad so hopefully a promising future ahead for the West Coast of Scotland.

inexperience and bad reffing aside Leinster have to work on their discipline !!!
Ryan's one to watch for the future. Apparently he put in some monster hits on the senior lads at his first training sessions.
Thornley keeps saying he's "pulling up trees". Whatever that means

"Ryan's one to watch for the future. Apparently he put in some monster hits on the senior lads at his first training sessions."
He has to work on discipline. Every match I've watched him in, he's given away a lot of penalties. Quite often, completely unnecessary ones. Definitely one to watch though.

Stop filtering what people say, beginning to turn into Neo-Nazi's.
Mike Blair plays for Edinbrugh doesn't he? And Cusiter for Glasgow?

lol, thats cos you're a tool Les Blues
By (u-p)rick, at April 26, 2010 8:07 pm
Lol Les Bleus - you could just take the clue and moderate how you make your points! It's pretty hard to get censored here, so maybe you need to look closer to home?
You're correct about Blair and Cussiter. Scotland seem to have a knack for producing good scrum-halves.
By Mike, at April 26, 2010 8:28 pm
Don't they have a third scrumhalf somewhere in the mix? I remember seeing someone play while Blair was injured, who was also pure class.
By Les Bleus, at April 26, 2010 8:42 pm
I think Mike nailed it.
There are also comment guidelines, and they're there for a reason. No need for every thread to turn into chaos, hence the need for moderation. I'm sure you can appreciate that.
Could you be thinking of Rory Lawson maybe?

Wow, grandson of Bill McLaren? Yeah it was him.
Matthew,
Scotland are looking very dangerous lately, not dangerous enough to beat the tri-nations teams but certainly to be able to beat everyone outside them. While I'm sure you would mention them already beating Australia, which is an enormous feat, I feel that luck was on their side for that game and would not win a game against Australia now (going on Super 14 form). The backline is dangerous, the loosies are dominating and even worrying coaches down south. I'm just unsure about the tight five, Scotland needs better props. I suppose Scott Murray was a huge loss.

By Kenny, at April 27, 2010 1:57 pm
Les Blues...
Would agree we were lucky to have beaten Australia but we were still able to put ourselves in that position, which is a massive improvement.
Euan Murray aside, the front row doesn't stack up yet, but the likes of Ford and Low can certainly become better players and Glasgow have a great wee nugget of a prop called Jon Welsh who can become a great player.
In the boiler room, Al Kellock has stood up and shown his worth both in ML and 6 Nations and given further opportunity will be a very good player. Glasgow also has Richie Gray - 6ft 9 20 year old, who has been destined for good things.
If Scotland get their act together and can build on momentum, then they can be challenging for 6 Nations in a couple of years no doubt.
By Unknown, at April 27, 2010 2:47 pm
No way a yellow, great hit and as you can see Ryan is trying to get over Cuisiter when the glasgow reinforcements arive. Only reason the ball didn't come back was because Cusiter was injured and made no attempt to place it back which after warning Leinster about infringements just before ref took as Ryans doing stopping it coming back.
Cusiter was down for 2 mins after which just went to prove that was the reason for it not coming back....
Poor reffing as it was throughout the game
By Unknown, at April 27, 2010 6:28 pm
gotta love it....
Italy are looking really good......but not good enough to beat the tri nations teams
Argentina are building, but not enough to beat the tri nations teams
France are looking very dangerous....but not dangerous enough to beat the tri nations teams.......
isn't that really all we ever hear fans?
i mean, les blues has said it,....ofcourse no one expects scotland to step up and put enough points on NZ or SA to win....but yes they could probably still challenge Aus (im not saying they'd win, but i believe they could keep it close...)
but hey, lets not give anything to the improving team because....yep you guessed....'they're not good enough to beat a tri nations team!'
By (u-p)rick, at April 27, 2010 9:51 pm
apologies for my ignorance...i did infact mean les bleus...
By (u-p)rick, at April 28, 2010 8:19 pm
how did that deserve a card?

By Anonymous, at April 30, 2010 8:06 pm
