Gethin Jenkins solid hit on opposing prop Carlos Nieto
Earlier this week we featured highlights from what was probably the game of the weekend, Cardiff Blues vs Gloucester from the Millenium Stadium.
Besides all the tries, which you can see here, there was some tremendous physicality on show from both sides, with a handful of big hits adding to the spectacle.
Cardiff Blues front rower Gethin Jenkins had a tussle with Italian international Carlos Nieto all match. The two heavyweights scrummed down against each other, which was a battle in itself, and early in the first half Jenkins got one up on his man.
It wasn't a powerful scrum though, it was in open field that Jenkins flew into Nieto with this fantastic hit. The massive side-on hit with the shoulder had a huge impact, actually causing damage and discomfort to Jenkins for some time afterwards.
It's not often that we get to see the fatties have a go one-on-one like that, so this was great to see, even if Nieto didn't really know that the contest was actually taking place.

Just because we could devour you in one sitting is no reason to call us fatties!! Fatties are what we smoke at half-time.

looked like he hit nieto's elbow with his collarbone, so it really could have been much worse for him, but it still hurts :(

Gethin Jenkins is an awesome player. During the 2005 season I think (during a Welsh training endurance) he came 4th in a long distance run, out of the whole squad. How many props can do that. Plus he's quick.
When the Lions toured NZ last he was under every high ball chasing and making the hit.
And don't forget when he came out of nowhere to charge down ROGs kick in 2005 GS match.

Lol guys, in some parts calling a prop a fatty is kinda norm.. it's affectionate. Dont take it personally. :)

I remember Jenkins chased a kick by Wilko and nailed the opposition winger in the Lion's tour.
He's probably the best prob around the park in the world (but his sscrummaging is questionable)

What happened to Nieto afterwards? It looks like a good hit, but Jenkins is the one they show hurt and on the ground.
If Nieto wasn't even rattled and Jenkins takes himself out, it isn't really that great of a hit...

my school coach is Rob Hardwick, formerly of London Irish. He's a huge guy, some would say fat, but he could probably keep running longer than me.

Props may be fat but they're actually nice guys once you get to know them.

NOT SENSITIVE, JUST GRINNING. AND I LIKE TO BE CALLED FAT THE MOST WHEN I'M WALKING BACK PAST YOU TO MIDFIELD AFTER SCORING. AFTER BEING MOVED FROM FLY TO HOOKER, I HEAR "YOU'RE FAST FOR A FAT BOY", MORE THAN ANY OTHER COMMENT. 240 AND CAN STILL FEINT YOU OFF YOUR FEET! NOT BAD FOR AN UGLY AMERICAN, AND FAT TOO!! JUST GLAD RUGBY IS FINALLY MAKING IT OVER HERE.
