Ospreys run riot against Treviso

Ospreys put in a commanding performance at home on the weekend as they demolished Treviso in a 10 try spectacle that saw winger Tommy Bowe picking up four tries and the Italian side being crushed 68-8 at the Liberty Stadium.

The Welsh hosts scored some excellent tries as they ran riot with Bowe crossing three times within a 25 minute period in the first half that also saw Nikki Walker scoring twice.

Lee Byrne, Shane Williams and Ed Shervington all scored tries after the interval before Bowe claimed his fourth try six minutes from time.

With a halftime score of 40-8, the game was well beyond Treviso, but they made a game of it after the interval and competed well until the final minutes, when the pressure once again proved too much.

It was an impressive performance from the injury ravaged Welsh side who ran in some classic tries, with flyhalf James Hook showing what a dangerous open field runner he can be.

This match was only broadcast on a Welsh tv channel, so the commentary is in Welsh, not English. The tries are great to watch though, in any language.

  • ...which is a tough competition in Welsh rugby nowadays.

  • Yeah, he is teamates with Gavin Henson afterall.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 11, 2008 4:14 pm

  • But, to be a little more constructive, the most impressive part of the Osprey's game was the off-loading in the tackle. Very nice.

By Blogger Kerivoula, at December 11, 2008 4:23 pm

  • Hook is a class act, as are the Ospreys but you must question whether stronger opposition would have allowed as much space and time. The Ospreys have not fired on all cylinders this year is this the start or just 'big fish' punishing minows?

By Blogger Kevin, Meath, at December 11, 2008 4:55 pm

  • The reason they put 60+ points on this team is because Ian Foster is with them this week for these two games. If Ian Foster was around for games against Leicester and Perpignan, then they would probably put in the kind of performances that would be good enough to win those matches.

  • cool tries, but not really impressive...
looked like for example a rwc match between a top 8 ranked nation and some random minnow side like namibia or portugal (no offence against these countries though!)...
but still the ospreys are in the 2nd toughest HK pool (toughest to be pool 1 with munster, sale, clermont and montauban) so i guess at the end of pool stage they will need any point scored...

No HEC game is pointless, get a clue. BP wins make a difference to qualifying.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 13, 2008 1:57 am

  • @ anonymous, maybe it's on RD because it was a record breaking match; highest number of points scored by one team in a single match as well as greatest victory margin. Or if that's not good enough for you it's on RD because the clip involves rugby.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 14, 2008 10:52 pm

  • @ irate user .. unfortunately what you say is just what the pricks at Mediazone want. I agree that all these clips going down is a pain in the neck and I'm sure RD are busting their arse to get the copyright issue sorted out. But they've given me a lot of entertainment already so I'll keep coming back to see what they come up with in the future. What I can't understand is why Mediazone and their like can't find a friendly and creative way to work with a site like RD .. I thought we were all on the same side in just being fans of a great sport. Mediazone make out they work for the fans and the sport but their actions make it clear they work only for themselves and the rest can go to hell.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 21, 2008 8:14 am

  • i think mitch is blinded by his love for welshgays: byrne ( who dives like a footballer ), henson and jones ( your "captain" of choice )

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 21, 2008 1:54 pm

  • haskell has to play at 6! he's a beast.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 21, 2008 2:19 pm

  • Byrne is exceptional, proven he's the best 15 in the NH during the Autumn tests and 6N. Ask Robbie Deans.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 21, 2008 4:51 pm

  • My Lions XV is

15-Byrne (Great form on 6N)or Geordan Murphy , and in some time more will be Keith Earls

14-Lewsey(toughest winger around and I like his style of play)or Tommy Bowe or I like to see what the Sprinboks do against the Big Boy Banahan

13-BOD comes to my mind,so don´t cut off the tradition ,but if he get injuried in the bus then I´ll call Simpson-Daniel(quick as a fart)

12-Gaynson I`ve read that he is playing well, the other choice that would like to see is Gordon D'arcy at 12 or 13 , he is a grat quiet player

11-Big Shane ,do I have to say something more?

10-O´Gara ,I think of him like a classic fly half, great kicking, good passing, not very much tackle and great game vision.

9-Dany Care,(He is playing well now)or the experience of Mike Blair

    8-Parisse, but like this isn´t possible I´ll say Harinordoquy,jaja
Seriusly I´ll say Ryan Jones as he is a cool calm player.

7-There are so many great opensides, but I enjoy when Martyn Williams play, other options are Tom Reese(run almost like Super Schalk)or David Wallace

6-so many greats blindsides too,but I prefer the Crunching-Hard-Killing-Assasin Tackling of the experienced Jason White(the northern Collins)other option are Simon Taylor(I like his style of game) or Lewis Moody

5-Paul O`Connell,Huge guy with great lineout and command abilities,He gets upset very often but its part of the job

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 21, 2008 5:07 pm

  • 2nd choice should be Winn-Jones.

4-I like to see the combination with O'Kelly but if he gets too old to play ,then should be Borthwick (Experienced player)or O'Callaghan (Munster Partner of O'Connell)

3-I'll like to see Phil Vickery in the Tighthead ,he is experienced ,tough and if the Raging Bull doesn't get himself red carded, then he will play a good role in the tour, 2nd choice is "The Bull" John Hayes, great scrummagger.

2-I dont get a name immediately to The Hooker of the team ,so should be Flannery(Ireland Hooker)because he is playing regularly in his national team, but I like the hooker of england Lee Mears, he run the pitch like a Small wild boar and its quiet funny to see.

1-Andrew Sheridan, no doubts on that,The Beast of Bromley is a fearsome player and its the best Loosehead on the north, other choice is Marcus Horan

Plus Gethin Jenkins that can play anywhere in the Front row and that is very handy.
