Sonny-Bill inspires Toulon to a great comeback vs Mont-de-Marsan

Toulon came from behind to put in an inspired second half performance against fellow relegation candidates Mont De Marsan this past weekend.

With all the talk focussing on the comeback of coach Tana Umaga, it was in fact another New Zealander who took center stage, sparking the impressive comeback which saw them score some fantastic tries.

Playing at number 13, Sonny Bill Williams finally came right for the southerners as he played a staring role in the 38-22 win, sparking the home side that were down to 14 men twice during the match.

The 15th man though, the crowd, lifted the team to victory as they came back from being 19-13 down at halftime.

The win gave them a much needed bonus point, and lifted them two places in the table, up to 11th.

Umaga stayed in the stands, so is yet to make his comeback appearance, but he was not needed as Czech international Martin Jagr scored a classy double, as did New Zealand winger Sinoti Sinoti.

It was Toulon’s first league win since beating Biarritz in November.

"Tonight we had cohesion, togetherness and we saw players like Sonny Bill Williams expressing themselves 100 per cent," Toulon assistant coach Aubin Hueber said.

It was a nice game to watch.

Best thing was when the eurosport commentators started discussing if it was a "high risk pass" or an "irish pass" :P (anyone interested in finding and uploading that bit, was about 55th minute of the game)

hope this is what toulon need to kick start their season, albeit very late they may just save themselves from relegation. any team with a umaga / williams centre combo has a chance!

Good to see Sonny Bill coming into his own. He'll be a very good player by next season, all the league guys tend to struggle in their first season, adapting to the different rules. Even Tuqiri was very hot and cold his first season in union.
He's got all the skills though, big, strong, fast, he can step players and his offloading is excellent. His tackling needs to adjust to union rules, but he's a devestating defender.
How about that Czech guy though? I've gotta admit, I've never heard of him but he looks quick as hell and seems to have some decent skills. I knew they kind of played a bit, but I didn't know they were producing players like this. The expansion of the game in europe continues to amaze me.

that Czech guy (Martin Jagr) is by far the best player in our country, and he is fast...I heard he is considering leaving Toulon, though, he stuck with them through relegation but then they bought so many players for his position he finds it hard to get game time
The Czech National Team not so bad either, last year we played in the same European group with Georgia, Romania and Portugal, all WC 07 participants. Unfortunately, we got thrashed by all of them and are now relegated again...

Martin Jágr was two times the best marker of Toulon and the best marker of the whole ProD2 (the second French league) the year Toulon was relegated. He was three times named the Czech player of the year and he is captain of the Czech national team at the moment.

From that which I've seen, it appears a good team performance. May just have not been paying full attention, but well done Toulon. They are a much better team, particularly in recent times than their position makes out.

He meant "Try Scorer" (bad translation : in french marquer = score). Jagr is usually the best try scorer of the club and he'd been 3 times best try scorer of Pro D2.

Well that's pretty impressive. To be fair I doubt he would crack any of the top international sides, but he's obviously a decent player. Pace is always a huge asset in any kind of football, and he didn't seem to lack the basic skills. Pretty impressive for a guy from one of the smallest rugby playing countries.
