Martin Corry cited for eye gouging against Ospreys
There’s been a lot of talk this week over the past weekends Heineken Cup match between Leicester and the Ospreys. More specifically, it was an incident between Martin Corry and Richard Hibbard that has caused the stir.
Corry has been cited for ‘striking or making contact with the eye’ of Ospreys hooker Hibbard, who can be seen in this short clip looking rather heated to say the least.
Following the match Ospreys falsely accused Tigers’ prop Julian White of gouging, but that has since been apologised for, with White not being cited, and denying any such action.
If Corry is proven guilty, the ban could carry for anywhere between 12 weeks to three years.
Denis Templeton, citing commissioner for the match, cited Corry for "an alleged strike/contact with the eye/eye area in contravention of Law 10.4 (a) and 10.4 (k)".
A date has yet to be set for the disciplinary hearing.
We’d like to stress that this footage doesn’t show much, but some have requested seeing the incident as it happened. For the disciplinary hearing though, they will (presumably) have other angles from the TV company involved, so that could reveal more.

at about 5 seconds corry and hibbart are at the bottom of the screen, corry obviously gives him a little something. maybe was going for a little punch or something. he then pats hibbart on the back before getting up.
corry was more likely just trying to irriate the hooker by shoving his hand in his face while on the ground than actually going for the eyes
that said, still pretty stupid and unneccesary but they don't call it ballet for a reason

I hope Corry didn't gouge him ... if he did, that would probably mean the end of Corry's career.
It would be a shame for a great player like Corry to bow out like that. Leave that to the Corne Krige's...

over the course of the whole game i had the feeling that leicester never really had the intention of winning or play proper rugby. rather delaying the game, and making it hard living for the ospreys
the ospreys were more committed during the whole game! little shane was being blocked from chasing the ball twice. the ref made some pretty questionable decisions!
couldnt find anything good about leicester rugby during that game.

if you look at 00-03 ro 00-06 secs you can seee corrys arm under Hibbard around his face area and his elbow seems to be pumping back and forth,
like bigox said i would say Corry was more likley to be trying to irriate Hibbard with a hand in the face rathen actually going for the eyes
i guess if they see it as we do he will still get punished for it

it's impossible to tell whether he meant it or not, but hibbard was fired up from something and did well to restrain himself from punching corry.

Leicester were out to spoil and sucked the life out of the game.
Cant wait for ospreys vs munster!!

"little shane was being blocked from chasing the ball twice."
The one where Murphy ran into him I'll give you but the second one he ran right into the Leicester player and was looking for the peno, stop moaning just because the pisspreys weren't good enough to top an easy group.

it looks like corry has just given him a dig in the ribs and a pat on the head as if to say "fuck off young lad before i really get you" of he was punished for gouging it would be rediculous and a sad way for such a great servant to leicester to go!

does look as though he has his hand in the guys face.
to be fair to leicester, playing away against a team like the ospreys where you just need a losing bonus point to win you dont play expansive rugby. just play it safe and keep it tight. is what they did and they were successful

hibbit reacts in the exemplary way. has a go at corry for doing such a cowardly thing and leaving the rest to the citing commision. better than lashing out, shows hes the bigger man.

he is definitely doing something to his face, looks more like a little punch from vid.
you can tell from his guilty face aswell, and hibbards eyes look sore, but then he is a hooker and their faces always do.
but based on the record of the committee he could be facing a ban from nothing to twenty years because it seems they've got the random no. geerator from countdown.
probably not get anything as big name players tend to avoid bans, where as lesser known players get treated like rubbish.
essay over

As far as I'm concerned, even if he wasn't trying to gouge, he was still making illegal contact with the eyes, and knew what could happen.
This season I was bit by an opposition prop in the scrum. At the time he was shouting at his 2nd rows to man the fuck up, so it was probably a mistake. However, that didn't stop me wanting his balls on a plate...

guilty !!
ha ha ha ha what an idiot - do these guys forget they are being watched and recorded ? ?

Corry might have been in the odd scuffle but he doesn't have a history of doing anything dirty like eye gouging - seems a bit out of character.
Might have been trying to irritate him but I can't see how they'd have any conclusive angles for eye gouging.
I really hope it wasn't anyway, that part of the game needs to disappear.
PS Leicester went in with the intention of slowing down the Ospreys and getting what they needed from the match...not a great spectacle but very professional.

suprised hibbard didn't knock his head off, he loves a bit of biff...

Fatboy White's been giving tips to Corry on how to act like a pussy, shame.

Disgraceful, eye gouging, in my opinion, is one of the lowest acts you can commit on the field. I am all for brutal tackling and I have no problem with the occasional punch up but to gouge someone... that's the act of a coward. I've been eye gouged and it's a horrible feeling, cuz you're usually at the bottom of a ruck or scrum, unable to move or defend yourself. That feeling of being unable to stop someone sticking their fingers into your eye is awful. Lowest act on a rugby field.

I hope he does get a ban that ends his career he was an absolutely woeful england captain and should have stayed on the bench as a bit part player where he was best!
Although to be fair you can't see anything from this video thats the slightest bit untoward.

leicester have said they are considering legal action as the wrong player white was accused by osprey/press,
what a joke, corry is up to something dirty, white was involved in another incident but it's leicester who are taking legal action,
they should be apologising without end all rugby fans not blaming ospreys,
also they've said they will support corry all the way, which is just b.s. implying he's innocent no matter what the citing officers say??
By Anonymous, at January 29, 2009 10:38 am
slander u dick head, holleys tactics of bringing it public b4 the the official channels is pathetic, this allows people to make up their minds b4 the facts are out, footage shows nuthing apart from 2 forwards having a dig whos to say corry wasn't reacting to sumthing hibbard did on the floor in the first place but won't complain caus hes a gent and rugby player not one of the many over rated ospreys who r in fact a regional side yet never won a ko hc match, don't bother about the edf either caus its shit.
By Anonymous, at January 29, 2009 12:22 pm
Ah not Corry, he seems like such a nice bloke. I expect this from Julian White but not him
By Anonymous, at January 29, 2009 12:23 pm
typical leicester
but i dont think theres enough evidence to ban him unless the citing panel have a super camera or something?
By Anonymous, at January 29, 2009 12:47 pm
I agree with the people saying he's just trying to wind him up. I doubt he gauged his eyes. He's been winding people up his whole career, he used to do it to dallaglio the whole time.
By Anonymous, at January 29, 2009 2:21 pm
Corry isn't stupid enough to gouge some jumped up little hooker. Apart from that I can't think of one occasion he has acted dirty. He's a tough player but not a dirty one...

@TigerBlow
that's one of the most ignorant comments I've ever encountered on a rugbysite.
Corry has been a terrific servant to the game for years. At Leicester he's personified all that's seen the club win so much in recent years and for England he was never anything less than 100% honest and committed. He wasn't as good as his predecessor, but then neither was the coaching staff, or infact the whole team.
I don't buy for a second that he deliberately made contact with the eye. And would be surprised if any fan of the game would even question his innocence.
To wish an end to a players career, regardless of your thoughts of them, is disgusting. And to wish such an inglorious end to such a man's career just beggars belief. Go and watch football, you'll find more the ethos more up your street.

lmao. hibbard tried to square up to corry, nthen he realised that corry was about a foot taller then him. what a twat. corry would have beaten the shit outta him.
By Anonymous, at January 31, 2009 4:29 pm
Course he fucking gouged him!!! why would he act like that if he didnt!!
Piece of dirty shit corry should be banned
