Biggest hits of the 2009 Six Nations

One of our contributors from France has put together a Biggest Hits of the 2009 Six Nations video, for those of you who sent in emails requesting a video of this type.

He was a bit hesitant to do it, seeing as France had a tournament they’d rather forget, but he’s been a good sport and gone ahead with it nevertheless, making a pretty cool short vid that features some nice tackles from the past few weeks of Six Nations action.

We get to see some awesome, high quality slow motion shots of the hits that took place, including a few that were featured here on RD.

All sides are represented nicely, with some great hits from Brian O’Driscoll in particular, and then the compilation finishes off with one of the best tackles of the tournament – young Mathieu Bastareaud on big Jamie Roberts.

Time: 01:49
Note: If we've missed a favourite hit of yours, apologies in advance. Enjoy otherwise.

  • Pretty poor effort...would have been more worth while showing 2 minutes of Worsley's hits on Jamie Roberts..

  • Not bad but misses out on loads of hits,
Ferris v england, BOD v any team, Powell on chabal, worsley on roberts to name a few! A revised version a bit longer would be nice!

By Blogger Unknown, at March 27, 2009 3:05 pm

  • Eh, Lewirth, his name is Bastareaud.
Bastardo is a bit harsh, don't you think??

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 27, 2009 3:09 pm

  • I thought it was good myself.

Bit disappointed to see O'Driscoll's hit on Nick Kennedy wasn' there, but as another person said beggars can't be chosers.

Anyway, there were a couple of nice hits from BOD included.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 27, 2009 3:56 pm

  • Prefer them in real motion personally, you get a better feel for how big the hit was.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 27, 2009 4:00 pm

  • I thought it was cool. Quit moanin moany monissons

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 27, 2009 4:54 pm

  • my favorite has to be simon danielli's hit at the end against france

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 27, 2009 5:21 pm

  • pretty good compilation I think, although there definitely need to be a few more.

No 'Best 6N tackles' video is complete without a few from Thierry Dusautoir.

The hit by Stephen Ferris on Armitage was awesome though. Flawless technique. BOD's hits were good too.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 27, 2009 5:28 pm

  • ferris' and daneilli's hits are my favorites. baster...'s on roberts was jus a a heavyweight collision

  • whatever......

By Anonymous jimthejailbird, at March 27, 2009 10:38 pm

  • yes its short but it was 'flagged' as so so that's fine.

To whomsoever described the kearney tackle as textbook

    Ha!

    Insane!

What textbook exactly?!? The school of (dangerous and embarrasing) hard nocks?

Apart from the scots (classic comment- more a danger to themselves lol) most were perfoect, apart fromthe effin Kearney one!

That was a sending off if it wasn't the 2nd minute, and what a crap pseudo rule that is

That said, I'm presuming that a provoker has said that to get the chat flowing.

By Anonymous mise, at March 27, 2009 10:38 pm

  • That was quality, well made RD. If you seen the matches, you seen the hits, get over yourselves.

  • Cheis
Another muppet trying to start up the NH, SH fight.
The next person who does that should be banned from here.
There were ac fair few dirty hits on the irish it has to be said.
Ferris, Worsley and O'Driscoll were sensationalin defense this year.
    Hats off to them.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2009 3:17 pm

  • hehe, anywho

    i'll be more specific then:

i've seen most of these matches, and was far from impressed by the lack of intesity:

italy almost beating wales, france beating wales, then loosing to england, who've been playing some of the worst rugby (mostly due to only having 14 men on the field) in their long and rich history.. and then after all the matches:

    THESE ARE THE HARDEST TACKLESS??

i'm gonna have to stick to my earlier comment ;)

think of it what you like

By Anonymous Cheis, at March 28, 2009 6:48 pm

  • I thought that was a pretty good video, at the end of the day all you people who moan about how bad it is, why don't you make one for RD to judge?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 28, 2009 8:48 pm

  • omfg why the slowmotion all the time?

By Anonymous kutapen, at March 28, 2009 10:23 pm

  • Pffft no gough or worsley = failed vid

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2009 3:20 am

  • why is it all in slow motion? slowmo fails to show real force of the impacts

By Anonymous minstrel boy, at March 29, 2009 12:21 pm

  • BASTA MON POTE...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2009 1:31 pm

  • Where is Dusautoir, Worsley, Fritz, Gough ...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2009 2:12 pm

  • I love worsley and floods double tackle on parra. Textbook!

By Anonymous Jonno, at March 29, 2009 3:39 pm

  • gd vid rd ... but a bit brief

    gough is a machine!!

By Anonymous mitch, at March 29, 2009 5:01 pm

  • What's time is the Ferris's hit on Sheridan ? Or does the hit is on youtube ?

    Sorry for my poor english.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2009 7:11 pm

  • Dusautoir destroyed the Scots and Welsh when he was defending. He's not very big but he puts in monster hits and his technique is flawless.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 29, 2009 8:42 pm

  • A lot of stephen ferris missed, he has a superb tackle, hit and drives people back. that masi one is worse every time you see it

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 30, 2009 12:57 am

  • I have a feeling the Ferris/Sheridan hit was in the 2nd half. Would be gret to find it RD !!

By Anonymous Brennie, at March 30, 2009 3:52 am

  • There were a few more Bastareaud ones against the welsh and the gang tackle on Chabal, in fact most of the hard hits came from France vs Wales match.

I lost a lot of respect for BOD after this six nations, he's a great play maker but is starting to get a little football in his reaction to some tackles on him. For example the one in the clip, flutey makes an awesome tackle to the midrift and BOD goes down holding his head, hmm.... seems he can give it out but isn't to keen to take it.

I think the french may have found their next Betsen in Dusautoir and I was impressed with the way Armitage dealt with some crunch tackles when he was under pressure.

By Anonymous Nick, at March 30, 2009 12:04 pm

  • Anybody know what the soundtrack its set to is?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 30, 2009 10:51 pm

  • Everyone who's complaining should go and source the footage of tackles themselves. You moany feckers.

Cheers RD and thank you French bloke who made this

By Anonymous Third Centre, at March 30, 2009 11:14 pm

  • BOD vs Shanklin decided the lions 13

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 31, 2009 5:17 pm

  • Chabal got boomed not on here?
    wolsey needs a mention too.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 31, 2009 10:55 pm

  • some good, hits but glorify illegal tackling such as the shoulder charge on O'connell i think it was, and tackling in the air on Lee Byrne, and on Delon Armitage. and there were a few swinging arm high tackles in there i can remember 100's of big tackles that where text book and still knock people back. Joe worsley for instance made about 30 of them against wales on Robinson.

By Anonymous Greg, at April 01, 2009 12:34 pm

  • shouldn't have put that hit on kearny from the start of the italy game.

By Anonymous lllllll, at April 02, 2009 8:05 am

  • nice video unfortunate not to see any hits being put in by luke fitzgerald he had a blinder of a six nations it could be a bit longer that last hit was massive real body shocker!!!
