The Chiefs beat the Hurricanes to progress to the final
The Chiefs have progressed to their first ever Super 14 final after a bruising match against the Hurricanes in Hamilton on Friday. The sell out home crowd witnessed the Chiefs outscore their opponents, winning the game 14-10.
Ma’a Nonu opened the scoring for the Hurricanes after impressive Victor Vito broke the line and offloaded nicely for Nonu to collect and trot over the line.
The Canes lost John Schwalger to the sin bin, which the Chiefs capitalised on as they scored a try through Sione Lauaki.
Stephen Donald made the break that set the dangerous Sitiveni Sivivatu free, which led to some neat handling and then the big man flying down the wing, beating two attempted tackles with power and pace.
Sivivatu featured prominently again later as it was his brilliant run that resulted in fullback Mils Muliana’s try in the 54th minute. Muliana was full of praise for his side after the match.
"I'm absolutely proud of my boys - the heart and dedication in the last 10-15 minutes that went into defence, you can't train stuff like that," he said.
The match ended in virtual darkness as fog descended on the field, with the Hurricanes desperately trying to overcome the four point deficit. The Chiefs held out though, so they'll travel to Loftus Versfeld to take on the Bulls in the final.

Awesome play by Sivivatu & Lauaki. The Chiefs have scored quality tries all season. The final next weekend is going to be immense. Cant wait.

What a game. How the hell is Lauki a 6? He's got the speed and step of a bloody good wing! One of the best tries I've ever seen from Mils, what a player he and Sivivatu are. Legends.
GO CHIEFS!

Just a question : is that commentator (the last one we hear) the same as the second commentator in rugby 08?
By tititotpo, at May 24, 2009 10:07 pm
Fuck yeaaaa rugby 08 kicks ass!!!

pretty astounding from lauaki. surprised me as all id seen of him at first was the tri nations game last year when he fucked everything up and then saw a super 14 game earlier this season and he was dogshit then.
so interesting to see him do something quite good. and watching lions 2005 highlights on youtube i couldnt believe he was on that tour

Where's the highlights of the Bulls/Saders game? Surely that's just as important or is Rugbydump biased towards Kiwis/Aussies and wouldn't want to show their beloved Saders being munched?!

discipline won the match. well done chiefs

"pretty astounding from lauaki"
pretty woeful tackling from the 'canes. Didn't the coach tell them that you can't run without legs. Hard to bring soemone down by grabbing their bicep........

Yup thats Grant Fox, absolute Kiwi (New Zealand) legend. Another one of our All Black legend commentators tragically died recently, so Foxy is now a full time commentator.
Which is awesome, but he has awesome analyst on the backs play, especially on the fly half.

Best positional full back in the world?
I think Mr. Robert Kearney and Mr. Lee Byrne might have something to say about that.
Best attcking player in the world?
I think Mr. Luke Fitzgerald, Mr. Delon Armitage and Mr. Kearney and Mr Byrne might also have something to say about that

wtf? ok ben maybe lee byrne is in with a shout for best full back, cant forget about hernandez(when he plays there at least) or even latham if he still plays? but i mean look at the rest of your suggestions, are you forgetting about o'driscoll, carter, habana, giteau, etc i think they all might have something to say about that ;)
Regarding the video, looks like one of the best games so far, final should be gr8, what time will the final be on GMT? cheers
By carson1091, at May 25, 2009 3:19 pm
/me chokes on Ben's comment.. riiiight buddeh :P
I think Mils and Sivivatu have been around, done a wee bit more, and proved themselves a slight bit more than those players you mentioned, sorry.
By FrankyH, at May 25, 2009 3:43 pm
i think byrne best in world kearney hasnt been given the chance with leinsters negative play this season but attacking wise its a toughie ex. this season and id say williams but i tink habana is pretty unreal fitzy will be class 2

Rugby is overrated, tennis is better.

BEn, thos eplayers might cut it in the northern hemisphere club competition., but when faced with the SH teams they go missing.
By Anonymous, at May 26, 2009 1:28 am
Agreed,
They might seem like special attacking weapons in the Northern hemisphere, but as soon as they face the south - that attacking skill just seems to dissapear

Wow two games in a row So'oialo missed a tackle that lead to a try!!! I understand the whole tackling high to prevent an off-load, but he is experienced enough to know that when you're the last person you have to go for the legs.
There are numerous ways of tackling, but when it comes to tackling Lauaki there is only one way, and that's going low. Poor choice by So'oialo.
