Top 14 Best Tries Mix from Round 1

The French Top 14 is back in full swing as we've seen two rounds of action already, with some great tries scored around the country in this brilliant championship of rugby that features top players from around the globe.

We've got a short clip for you today that was thrown together to cover some of the better tries scored in the first round of the tournament, in case you weren't able to see them.

Obviously all the focus so far has been on the hype surrounding the big signings, as it is every year, so players like Jonny Wilkinson and Sebastien Chabal were a significant draw card as the league kicked off.

It was one of the star performers from last season though, Fijian Napolioni Nalaga, who got off to another cracking start for Clermont, scoring two tries in their victory over Bourgoin.

For Castres, former Toulon winger Marc Andreu scored two sensational tries against Biarritz that showed the lethal finishing ability of the young flyer.

Toulouse scored a nice try against Montauban that was created by new recruit Yann David, then finished by Yves Donguy.

For Racing Metro against Albi, Sebastien Chabal came on for the last twenty minutes, but didn't feature too prominently, besides one or two nice charges. The lone try of the match was scored by Englishman Dan Scarborough after a brilliant break by their flyhalf and right wing.

We'll have the best of round two's action soon.

  • Was that Rougerie at outside centre for those first two Clermont tries? He's looking pretty sharp this season, back in the French squad??

  • Wow those two tries by Andreu were awesome. I'd always heard about him when he was at Toulon, but never really seen him do anything spectacular (not because he hasnt - just because I havent seen it).

Those were super sharp though. That second try sidestep was pure class. Deadly.

I loved the counter attack in that last try too. I always seem to see that in the Top 14. Brilliant.

  • rougerie looks great at outside center! both tries were created by him

  • Good to see some nice running rugby! My favourite is the team in all red's try, with the tip of th fingers catch and sheer momentum taking him over the line. Not the most skilled try, but most entertaining to me!

If I were a Biarritz fan I'd be annoyed about the 2nd try. As soon as the front rows of the scrum pop up like that, the ref should blow it up. For that to happen and then turn the ball over is pretty atrocious reffing.

  • ive seen that guy andreu score a couple of good wingers tries before and hes got some serious pace. France seem to have an abundance of flare wingers such as heymans, clerc and medard. If this guy andreu keeps up his form he could find himself in the french squad at some point. Rougerie shud definatly be given another shout for the French. Despite his recent injuries hes still a top quality winger. its good to see him looking sharp in the centres. Top 14 looks like it could produce some exceptional rugby this year

  • Yes, awesome step from Andreu. A little reminiscent of Shane Williams - small guy, quick step.

    Great tries, great video.

    Clermont x2 (Nalaga)
    Castres x2 (Andreu)
Stade Toulousain (Donguy with an awesome rush and pass by the future great centre of XV de France : Yann David, remember that, anyway you'll se him again in round 2 highlights)
    Racing Metro (Scarborough)

  • Fantastic stepping, nice to see the little guys having an impact on the game.

As for the music, it worked and did you ever notice that the truly masculine guys don't worry about if anyone thinks their music is feminine or not.

  • toulouse, SF and clermont are my usual favorites

toulon, racing, brive or bayonne can be the surprises of the top 14

  • What's with this terrible music?

It has no place in rugby...

other than perhaps as background music to a Dieux du Stade calendar shoot

or at the post-match drink up for the Kings Cross Steelers.
