Magners League Best Tries - Round 2

The Magners League is now heading into week 3 of action as the best sides from Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland battle it out in what is rapidly becoming one of the better tournaments in world rugby.

We have a pick of some of the best tries for you today, as sides are hitting their straps and creating some awesome try scoring opportunities.

Ulster upset the star studded Ospreys at Liberty Stadium with an impressive 20-16 win on Saturday. Scottish winger Simon Danielli scored two nice tries, with big lock Dan Tuohy finding himself in support to pick up a try of his own. Another Scottish winger, Nikki Walker, scored an excellent break away try for the home side.

As we saw earlier in the week, Xavier Rush scored a fantastic try for Cardiff in their 24-13 defeat to Munster in Limerick. Marcus Horan and Denis Leamy scored for Munster.

Fijian national Isa Nacewa scored a great try for Leinster as they comfortably slayed the Dargons 23-14 at the RDS. Nacewa finished off the try after a neat wrap around move by flyhalf Jonny Sexton, but the pass from Gordon Darcy did look highly suspicious.

Edinburgh let loose against Connacht on Friday as they scored eight tries in their 62-13 massacre of the Irish side. Tries were scored for the winning side by Mark Robertson, Ben Cairns, Chris Paterson, Ally Hogg, Alan Macdonald, Andrew Turnbull, and Roddy Grant. Connacht did manage to pick up a consolation try though, from Fionn Carr.

The last try we have is from the match between the Glasgow Warriors and the Scarlets from Firhill. Glasgow continued their good start to the season with a 19-11 win, but the try featured comes from the losing side, and fullback Daniel Evans.

It's an extremely busy period in the world of rugby, so at times we might not be able to feature all tournaments. If you have a preference, please let us know and we'll try make the majority happy by featuring the most popular action.

Each time I watch it, Peter Stringer seems more and more pathetic. Sexton was looking very good though. Hopefully he'll be starting for the November Internationals or at least the Six Nations.

Good start for a couple of the so called smaller teams but things should start hotting up when all of the Lions are back from their prolonged rest.

Kearney for tests. I always agree with what you say, eg, your name, but realistically, do you really think Sexton is going to start in AIs when he doesn't even have a cap. He'll get time against Fiji and if Ireland are comfortably ahead v Aus, then he'll get 20min.

It doesn't matter your opinion of O'Gara, no where in International rugby will you see an established pro replaced in big tests with an uncapped player especially at pivot. I'm not a Rog apologist, but he's gonna be around for another 2 years and Sexton will play second fiddle. I also still rate Keatley higher than him.

Yeah I agree that O'Gara will be the outhalf for the foreseeable future. I was just saying that i hope Sexton will be there instead. On current form he certainly deserves it.

That leinster try has a horrible forward pass! Dragons should have beaten them.
But sexton is looking pretty decent, and ireland definately need a new FH.

Was James Hook off his game the first match, too? I only caught the Ulster-Ospreys game and he was looking....well, it wasn't good.

I think the problem with the Magners League is both the poor commentary and poor attendance. It seems like the Welsh/Scottish/Irish sides don't really get showcased deservedly until the Heineken Cup rolls around.

piopio, as someone who attends Irish ML games regularly, I can tell you that most games in Ireland are sell outs, especially Leinster home. For under strength sides both Munster and Leinster had pretty good crowds, RDS roughly 12000, Thomond 15000. It was only their first home game of the season. Watch the crowd for Munster/ Dragons next week when de Villiers makes his debut and the Lions are back.

At 1:30, after the maul was brought down/stopped there weren't any opposition players in the ruck, couldn't the opposition have come around and tackled the scrummy?

Very silly to say the Magners sees the bests teams from Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Ireland fight it out, because, as I'm sure you know, Ireland plays as one in the rugby, and secondly, the one team you could be referring to (not teams) represents the entire Province of Ulster, i.e. 9 counties (and not the 6 in N.I.), and is no way representative of Northern Ireland. Rugby goes beyond petty politics and sectarianism. Let's keep it that way! Thanks

Went to my first leinster match against the dragons after some frantic band wagon jumping after my now beloved leinster won the HC. have to say attendance and atmosphere excellent and the toilets are spotless.

PLEASE ARE THERE ANY OTHER CHANTS OTHER THAN LEINSTER, LEINSTER, LEINSTER OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

lets put our brains together and come up with the worlds greatest chant.

Maybe it's just the camera angle, then - showing the emptier side of the stadium? I don't know. But particularly Welsh home games (esp. Ospreys) always seem to look half-empty.

Not living in any of the 3 participating nations, I can't say that I've been to a match, so of course, what do I know? I'm just saying the crowds APPEAR to be small...but thanks for clearing that up for me - good to know that support for the Magners League is strong.

Can't believe Collins still has it.
If he chooses to go back, he could probably still make the AB (see no of the 6 coming offers the physicality anywhere near Collins)

The support for the irish sides is excellent because of the current success but support is dwindling in wales. In ireland rugby is associated with wealthy schools and that might explain why the attendance is always fairly good.
