Quade Cooper brilliant individual try in Queensland final
This is a short clip but it's of a moment of brilliance from young Wallaby back Quade Cooper while playing in the 2009 Queensland Premier Grand Final at Ballymore this past weekend.
Cooper, playing for Souths, went down 22-16 to Brothers, who picked up their first premiership win in 22 years.
It was a fitting send off for former Wallaby and Queensland Reds flanker David Croft, who has announced his retirement.
"I’m just so happy, it’s a magnificent feeling and it’s a good way to go out," Croft said during the post match celebrations.
Cooper was on the losing side, but contributed to the match after Souths had done a last minute reshuffle, with him catching a 6am flight out of Wellington via Sydney to join the team.
He made his presence felt early on in the match with a stunning 65m try that saw him bring out a few of his trademark steps, show great acceleration, and then throw a superb dummy and hand off right at the end.
Note: This is the only version available right now, so no replays/commentary unfortunately.

great try! particularly like the skipping that league players seem to employ a lot.

Quite easy to score if no one wants to tackle you.
Anyways, is it just me or does Quade Cooper look like one of those indians from Mel Gibsons Apocolypto?

It's just you.

Jon, I do believe it's not just me. Around the Wallaby camp his nick name is in fact Apocolypto, look it up.

Good try. The kid's obviously got a lot of talent.
I must say that while Cooper is good at his individual runs, I don't rate him as a distributor of the ball. I always cringe when he plays No. 10.

What competition is this for? Is it just a Queensland thing - and does Australia not have a domestic club competition?

amazing try.
Magic feet

Heyo, Australia doesn't ahve a national domestic competition.
There are state comps, and the only two that matter are the QLD comp and the Shute Shield (Sydney comp).
The Shute shield has most of the top S14 and national players, while the QLD comp also has quite a few S14 and wallabies players.
It's only semi-proffesional though, any players who don't have S14 contracts have day jobs and don't get paid much (if anything) to play.
The standard's actually not that bad, considering, alot of good players run around in the competitions. But without full time proffesionalism, it's never gonna produce the depth that the Currie Cup and Air NZ Cup produce.
It's why Australia doesn't have the depth of NZ or SA.

looks remarkably like an Indian from Apocolypto.

Quade has quite obviously been watching the West Tigers games from this years NRL season.
Straight out of the Benji Marshall text book. Though obviously not as good, but still.

Quality try. Defense seemed pretty shoddy from this angle but you can't ask an attacking player to do any more than he did. It had everything. Champagne rugby.

COOPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By Anonymous, at September 25, 2009 10:37 am
I scored two like that the other day.
Didn't those Indian's have loin-cloths and big spears though? I remamber trying to sit down with the wife and watch it but giving up half way through as she said (and I quote): 'there's too much yuck in it to be a nice film'.
anyway.....

Well Stoojay, we must look outside the box, sure they wore almost nothing and had a few bones in their noses, but in life we look past the small differences. Take note of the facial features and the hair, two very important factors.
By Keo.co.za, at September 25, 2009 12:42 pm
lol??
I don't know...
that's rather embarassing for the defence...
I don't whether to laugh or cry watching the try
By vinniechan, at September 26, 2009 4:09 pm
stoojay pull your head out your arse and admire one of the great trys
By Anonymous, at September 26, 2009 11:47 pm
Vinniechan, yes the defence was pretty average, but you see that sometimes in broken play.
This was a counter attacking try, and the defence wasn't set. Yes, they should have scrambled better, but Cooper is an international, and he just stepped past them.
