Lionel Beauxis incredible skill against Bath
When Bath played Stade Francais in the Heineken Cup last weekend, the same match that we featured with the Matt Banahan hit, Stade flyhalf Lionel Beauxis displayed some superb moments of brilliance.
There's been quite a few requests over the last week, for the one piece of skill in particular, so we've got that up today, and have included another two examples of the quality of the Frenchman.
He slotted a superb dropgoal early in the match, giving Stade the lead with the huge kick that he struck helluva sweetly from the halfway line. Not bad considering he had little time to set himself and not a whole lot of space.
It must be noted that the camera work for this match was great. It looks like there are some new super-slow-mo cameras in action, which pick up and focus on little bits of play, allowing us to see the game in more detail and from a slightly different perspective. If anyone knows anymore about that, please let us know.
A fine example of that camera work, and of Beauxis skill, was when he controlled an incoming 22m drop out with his foot, ala some of the great French footballers. The camera picked it up perfectly and Beauxis showed what a talented player he is.
A few minutes later he sent a pinpoint touchfinder deep into the Bath half, pegging them back as he showed his all round ability with the boot.
Kids, don't try this at home.

Though that stop with the foot will make every fans', coaching administration's and team mates' heart skip a beat :P
Camera work is sublime too...it'd make the video ref's easier for those fast, blurry tries :)

Amazing skill of a great player!
Beauxis has definitely won the number 10 jersey of the XV of France!!
I wish he will be selected for the automn tests!!

I was trying this yesterday in training.
Definitely not something you can do every time, if the ball lands on its point its almost impossible to cushion and its probably bouncing off your foot at some weird angles.
Unless you're trying this with a spiral kick you've gotta be incredibly good at juding the spin of the ball (or be very lucky)
Great skill either way.

Beauxis is certainly a futur good player, but for the moment, he is only a good kickers ..
Bad in the tackle, bad in attack and not the best mental, so many injury, but he has awesome potential but for the moment not the number 10 of XV de France.

Agreed.
For the moment he is just able to kick some nice dropgoals, and he misses lots of these too.
He is definately not a great n°10, we saw it again yesterday in the game Stade Français - Perpignan as Paris again lost at home in Stade de France.
Michalak, Elissalde or Trinh-Duc have much more skills at the moment to wear the jersey n°10 of XV de France.

just the norm for beauxis, especially the drop goals :P
he learnt the trickery from hernandez no doubt

So I've only gotten into following rugby closely in recent years, but what is all the fuss about "French Flair" - what are they doing that other countries aren't?
I lived in France when Sella and St Andre played, and of course they were great, but is France's style of play that discernable?
Great drop goal btw.
By Crosser, at October 25, 2009 6:57 pm
holy shit he drilled that drop goal

Filthy skills - nothing wrong with doing it in style!

Nice skills, but i like much better a nice tackle. Sometimes, Beauxis looks like a pussy.

Disagree with the editor - Kids, I think you should try this at home, and keep trying it.

Crosser, the French are known for taking risks, running the ball and playing tricky rugby.
Wales, Australia and France were historically the teams who'd run the ball from anywhere, NZ too, except they have always been known for being able to play any type of rugby, open, conservative, kicking etc.
To be hoenst though, France don't play that way much these days.

Would love to get 6 nations and heineken cup big hits on these cameras.

Hell of a player with a HUGE boot. Stade are a great team to watch.
By WelshOsprey, at October 26, 2009 1:14 am
yes preetty much France are called "full of french flair" is because of their risky plays.. for exampls heymans against the all blacks.. dominici against the all blacks.. etc etc... french flair at it's best..
By Anonymous, at October 26, 2009 1:47 am
quade cooper from the reds has done that a few times too.

QAAUUUUDDEEEEEE!!!

Yep typical French does two things brilliantly and absoloutely nothing for the rest of the game.
It is a great drop goal, but it's a shame he then missed about 5 after wards, like Hernandez, and Domingues before him the 10's at stade are obssesed with drop goals.
Beauxis is a cracking player, when he plays, but these are three moments in a game where he didn't really come to the party.
Liking the HD camera work from sky though, it does look amazing.
By goodNumber10, at October 26, 2009 8:30 am
Those new HD cameras are awsome.
By Anonymous, at October 26, 2009 11:38 am
WOW!!! unbelievable
By Anonymous, at October 26, 2009 12:18 pm
It's quite unfair to say the french don't play with flair anymore. If you compare the H Cup teams, Toulouse is certainly the one producing the most exciting rugby, Stade and Biarritz not being far behind
By Bill, at October 26, 2009 4:49 pm
The french either play extremely well or extremely bad because of the "flair". Always inconsistent, but man what a sight it is to behold when they are playing well
By rehanb, at October 26, 2009 4:50 pm
stopping the ball with your foot gets rid of the risk of knock ons.
By mise, at October 26, 2009 9:14 pm
Yeah I meant the national team Bill.
By Tommo, at October 27, 2009 6:58 am
Stopping the ball with the foot does reduce the risk of a knock on. But it creates an offside line so your players have to immediately retreat.

i think that's the same kind of camera used a while ago for the game Stade Français vs ASM last year at the Stade de France . It's the SprintCam v3 showreel.
you can view what it can shows here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J6_O6IHddI
