Ospreys survive Clermont comeback to hold on at home

Ospreys held on to keep out Clermont in a nail-biting Heineken Cup clash at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday. The French visitors fought back from a 19 point deficit, only to come up short as the hosts won the match 25-24.

Tommy Bowe, Ryan Jones, and Barry Davies scored the tries for Ospreys, with Dan Biggar slotting two conversions and a penalty, while James Hook kicked a dropgoal.

Clermont scored three tries in the second half as they set off on a thrilling comeback that silenced the home crowd. Broke James converted the tries that were scored by Benoit Baby, Thomas Domingo, and Alexandre Lapandry.

Former All Black Jerry Collins summed the match up nicely.

"We got out of jail today,” he said.

“But we've done well to regather and keep it together. We managed to come out on the right side of the scoresheet. Those first 15 minutes (in the second-half), we couldn't do anything right.

"Winning's always better than losing. We'll dissect it on Monday but now enjoy the win."

  • Incredible that the referee allowed that forward pass try! Justice as Ospreys came away win a win.

  • That try should never have been allowed with that forward pass but the ref was right, he never saw it so he cant call it.

any chance we can see the moment jerry collins got sent off?

  • Another brilliant game but we cant keep giving 18+ points away in the 2nd half.

  • Cracking game as expected but watching the ospreys nearly throw it away again was pretty funny.
If they played for 80mins it'll take a lot to stop them.
Oh and the bowe/hook combo looks VERY good in midfield.

  • couldn't Barnes ask for the TMO on the foward pass? if he can't shouldnt he be able to.

  • The ospreys are a joy to watch when they play like they did in the first half, will they be ruthless against viadana? They could easily put 60 points on them if they wanted.
Collins tackling is immense, not just the size of the hits but the amount he makes.

  • Osprey's look like they're playing well, hows Collins doing down that way?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at October 21, 2009 11:02 pm

  • Good man Tommy Bowe!

  • now thats what you call a game of two halves

By Anonymous Anonymous, at October 22, 2009 10:13 am

  • Great rugby match...

just to say that it seems that Asm scored a try with a forward pass... but the last try of the ospreys at the end of the first half... had also a great forward pass!!!
however it's quite strange that the summary of the match did not show the last scrum...
